just wondering if the 301 will work with local channels.i called dish to subscribe to the locals and they want to replace my 3-301's that i own. they said i might not be able to get the locals with the 301.would i be making a mistake by exchanging boxes? i suppose the boxes would be there's and not mine from now on

The 301 works fine for locals......depending on where you are ;)

There are some markets that are using 8PSK (instead of QPSK) so the 301 wont work.

Which market in Michigan?

um actually the 301 WONT work if he is in Marquette

Marquette was launched as a 8PSK only market

Marquette, MI
8PSK-capable receiver required, but still QPSK

so you need a receiver that can handle 8PSK and the 301 doesnt

I did some looking and found that the 301 is NOT 8PSK

The receivers that are NOT 8PSK are as follows:

Legacy Receiers - 1000/1500, 2700/2800/3700/3800/3900, 4000/4500, 4700/4900, 5000/5500 ( DVHS unit also)

DishPro Receivers - 301, 501/508/510

so it looks like the 311 **might** be 8PSK capable

edit: the 301 isnt 8PSK capable but the 311 is
http://dishuser.org/rcvrcompare.php

so Dish **should** swap the 301's for a 311

the 311 is 8PSK but it looks like (from the installer forum) they are using 211's instead

a installer mentions how to turn off the HD part so it only shows SD channels and no formatting issue

This comes in VERY handy when swapping out a 301/311 with a 211

after d/l, activation, and guide download.

go into the local tap of the install screen.

I think its menu-6-1-8

go into CHAN DISP

change locals to SD only and DISABLE HD..

works every time.. then there are no formatting issues.

post 10 shows which receivers ARENT on the list

as for dishpro receivers, the link also confirmed its only the 301, 501, 508, 510

When they offered to swap your 301's did they say that you would own the new receiver that you would get or be leasing it?
