Nokia's first Windows Phone 7 handsets to be the Nokia W7 and Nokia W8? Both using Qualcomm chipsets

Be interesting to see what they come out with...

Nokia's first Windows Phone 7 handsets to be the Nokia W7 and Nokia W8? Both using Qualcomm chipsets | MobileTechWorld

Ready for some Nokia Windows Phone 7 rumors? Eldar who is known to get early nuggets from Nokia insiders just spilled the beans about Nokia’s first Windows Phone 7 handsets. The first one being the Nokia W7 which according to him is similar in design to the Nokia X7 (running Symbian) but with WP7 and a Qualcomm QSD8250 SoC. That’s right, just like I told you back in February Qualcomm was doing everything to stay the only chipset provider for Windows Phone 7. Now this is obviously still unconfirmed but according to what is being said the phone following the W7; the Nokia W8 will also pack a Qualcomm SoC but the model has not yet been determined (Nokia is apparently try to secure a deal for the most powerful Qualcomm chipset to be available in Q2/Q3 2012 (Eldar speculates that it’s the MSM8960 with e Adreno 320 GPU but this can’t be the case given that this model isn’t expected before the end of 2012 and early 2013) so they can have the most powerful Windows Phone 7 handset on the market. This W8 will have a design similar to the current Nokia N8.

Anyway, this is all unconfirmed stuff and you should obviously take it with a pinch of salt. What is getting clearer now is that Nokia is working hard on getting it’s first (QSD8250 based) Windows Phone 7 device out by the end of the year but it will most probably slip to January or February. Eldar also points out that the Finish company has 12 other WP7 products designs (other than the W7 and W8) currently being worked on for 2012

More details from the Russian original:
1. Nokia was fighting the very idea of using Qualcomm chips (they were suing each other for years) but Microsoft won this round.
2. Nokia is working on prototypes since well before the agreement with MS was signed.
3. The screen in the upcoming phones is not AMOLED from Samsung but looks very nice. Could change when shipped.
4. The goal is to have something ready by fall. This is why some minor changes will be applied to an existing model.
5. Emphasis will be on marketing. To come up with "new terminology" that will describe existing old features.
6. Cameras will be the focal point in all of the handsets. This will be the "differentiator" when compared to others.
7. Symbian is dead but Android is not. Everything depends on how successful WP7 will be. This discussion will be revisited by middle of 2012.

Yeah Nokia is only making Windows Phone 7 Devices Only so with them and HTC making them this will push Windows Phone Devices near the top or close to it...

Eldar: Nokia WP7 prototypes are out, W7 and W8 coming this year, 12 devices planned for 2012

Perennial Nokia leaker Eldar Murtazin claims to have had some hands-on time with a Nokia Windows Phone 7 prototype, and has posted some additional information about the company’s road map.

He claims that 4 models are currently in development, and due to the need for speed in many cases the phones will bear a close resemblance to the Symbian devices they replace.

The first set of devices will be very similar to the current generation of Windows Phone 7 devices, and the second wave will be so-called chassis 2 devices with new form factors, including low-end processors and QWERTY devices with landscape touch screens.

He notes the first devices will have 8 megapixel cameras and a 12 megapixel N8 variant will also be coming to Windows Phone 7.

He also said that Nokia’s plans are changing week on week, but consideration is being given to make the most powerful Windows Phone as a selling point, with dual processors and powerful GPUs.

Lastly, they are also looking at creating a business-focussed service, again as a selling point for their

Yeah Nokia is only making Windows Phone 7 Devices Only...
No, they don't.
They will make Symbian phone for a year or two...
...so with them and HTC making them this will push Windows Phone Devices near the top or close to it...
No, it won't.
HTC became big thanks to Android and nothing else.
They do MS (and Nokia) a favour by manufacturing WP7 phones. And I don't think this favour is cheap.
It is also good "insurance" for HTC in case this duo does have success.

Also, keep in mind that Eldar gets carried away sometimes.
Yes, he has moles inside Nokia and is often the first to reveal trends and undercurrents.
But work in progress overlayed with his interpretation can be ways off. Especially in a fast changing industry like smartphones.

Nokia has said that WP7 will be their PRINCIPAL Smartphone strategy. I don't se Symbian being viable in the uS anymore but if they are phasing out all other OSes they have not revealeda timetable for this. Remeber Symbian is pretty popular outside the US and they may still want to use it in Europe and/or developing countries.

This was a test of browsers BTW the headline makes it look like this was a much broader test. Hopefully this forum is not going to look like the old BluRay HDDVD forum.

Your really posting this and getting excited about WP7 having .3% of the facebook users? Only thing positive in this article is that they are about to pass webOS. That is something to be excited about. WP7 is about to have more Facebook users that webOS.

This is turning into a cheerleading forum like the old one on BD vs. HD DVD. several of the HD DVD types insisted that their posts in that forum were going to turn the tide in that standards war. I suspect that it will be equally effective in this case.

WP7 does not log your location

Neowin.net - WP7 does not log your location

It was recently discovered that Apple's iOS logged your location and that it was possible to take the stored data and turn it into a graphic that showed your previous location. It was also noted that Android does log your location as well but you are able to opt out of the service.

But what about Microsoft's platform, Windows Phone 7? According to PCmag, who reached out to Microsoft to determine if WP7 also recorded users locations, they do not track your location. Microsoft stated that

unequivocally that phones running Windows Phone 7 do not store location history. Like most other phones, the platform offers plenty of location-based apps, and those apps require user consent before they begin tracking. Windows Phones also offer the common feature of a "global switch" that lets the user disable all location services, and Microsoft says its "Find My Phone" service keeps only the phone's most recent location.

For those who are worried about their location being tracked, it would seem that WP7 would be your best bet for a mobile phone platform. For Microsoft, this represents a small victory in the name of security as they continue to build the brand image of WP7.

Microsoft has been pushing WP7 at every turn. Their latest mobile OS has been growing steadily but has experienced a few bumps in the road. While the update saga was drawn out, hopefully Microsoft learned a thing or two during those issues and will be able to remedy the situation when Windows 7.5 update is pushed out.

You got to love numbers. Depending on what you compare them against you can make them say anything you want. Windows 7 when from 400K users to 500K Users in a month. Android went from 32 Milling to 36 Million and iOS went from 69 Million to 72 Million in the same time frame. I don't know about you while its would be great that my base grew by 14% I would rather add 4 Million or 3 Million users not 100K.
