I have done alot of searching and reading, but I am still confused as to how to put up a wing dish to pick up 61.5, 110, 119, 129

Heres what I have equipment wise:
-I have the dish that was installed when I got my HD upgrade in march. It has the port for line in.

-I have my old Dish 500. The LNB is the one that picked up 110/119 and had outputs for 4 TV's

-I have a 722 model receiver, using it as a dual tuner.

Will this equipment work? How exactly do you setup the wing dish? I have the Dish up, set to a skew of 40, elevation of 38, and have it in the general direction of where it needs to go. I have the 3rd output from the 500's lnb into the 4th port of the 1000.2's lnb.

So, with the hardware setup and hooked up, assuming what I have will work, what are the steps I need to go through to get this wing dish to work? Do I have to do something to the 129 lnb eye to stop it from seeing 129?

You will need 2 dishes, I have both one for 61.5 and another for 110, 119 and 129. 61.5 facing south.

That LNB wont work

If you have a Dish1000.2 (which it sounds like you do) the "wing" LNB needs to be a DishPro DUAL or SINGLE and can only see one slot. You have a quad which wont work

What do you think you need a 61.5 wing dish for? You have the 110,119,129 now. All the HD channels on the 61.5 are on the 129 already.

What are you hoping to accomplish with the 61.5?

If that old dish 500 has a DP quad on it, you could use it to point exclusively at 61.5, set your skew to 0 (90) beam in off one eye instead of using a DP single/dual...

don't think I'd recommend someone doing it that isn't too familiar with aiming dishes though.

My reception for 129 is not all that great due to trees. I get great 110/119. Also, for some reason when I moved, I kept my old local channels when they activated my new local channels so I am in 2 markets right now. One of the markets is going to get it's HD locals on 61.5 but not 129, if I have read the uplink reports correctly.

I thought I read somewhere that people were using the lnbs that see 2 sats, with one of the eyes aimed at an empty space? Is it possible, but not recommended, or totally impossible with the equipment I have?

If you have only a legacy lnb pointed at just 61.5 then will that work with the VIP 722 receiver? That might be all some people need for the HD only package.

If you point a dish at 61.5 with a DP lnb on it and connect it to the 4th port on the Dish 1000.2 to pickup 61.5 / 110 / 119 / 129 then wouldn't there be an issue with duplication on 61.5 / 129?

I believe the receiver will default to 129 if it sees both. I think thats why people are tin-foiling the 129 part of the lnb, correct?

When I uncover the 129 lnb and reset our 722 all the HD's come thru 129 and the few extra public service channels on 61.5 come thru.

Cover up the 129 lnb then all 129 HD's plus the public service channels come thru 61.5 bird.

Little aluminum foil does the trick, here's our 1000.2 below.

It's very sad that We DISH customers have to resort to aluminum foil to use our Dish 1000.2 sat dishes + 61.5 wing dish, just to get hd channels that don't drop out on audio and video. Everytime I hear that DISH has "cutting edge technology", I think of the aluminum foil trick and I just laugh and laugh. Maybe once the new sat is up there at 129 we can at last remove our foil forever.

I agree completely and it'll be the day when our 129 will be full strength again but I will keep the 61.5 up so I can continue to receive the Pentagon Channel to monitor for any fresh military information from Iraq as my brother will arrive at Camp Taji in early January '09.:up

"The Aluminum Foil Mod" I like it :D

I have a DPP44 switch fed by a pole mounted 1000.2 that picks up 110, 119, and 129 and a dish 300 for 61.5. My receivers are 2 VIP 622's and a 508. The 1000.2 and DPP44 were free with the installation of my second VIP622 as the Atlanta locals had just been added to 129 the day before my installation (thanks to the Satellite Guys forum for keeping me informed). At that time I was receiving the Sky Angel service from 61.5.

The setup works great and has never given any problems.
