World Series in a neutral site

Should the World Series be played at a warm neutral site?

The MGM based Sportsbooks have held the bets until the completion of the game today. Caesar's and other local based books have put a prop bet for today's completion, the line is Phillies $1.55 over Rays. It won't actually count against anyone who placed a prop on the games total unless the Rays win the completed game.

the world series venue doesn't need to be changed (what a way to hurt gates to have a World Series in a city where noone cares because their team is not in it.)

You just need more warm-weather city clubs to play in the World Series!!! ;)

No way, for all the reasons everybody has said. It has been the way it is for over 100 years so leave it alone.

Let the World Series stay the way it is. It's tradition and makes sense the way it is. As far as pushing games back and starting games earlier, they could play the games in November and I wouldn't care because it's cold in November, October and sometimes depending upon where you are in September.

How about if they want to eliminate all the cold games of the World Series, why can't they, dare I ask, have games during the day? They'll probably do better ratings during the day than at night.

Thats exactly it. There is such a simple solution but money overrules logic and practical sense. Selig is such a worm that it would never happen under his tenure. That guy is a sleaze bag.

Not that I am defending this buffoon....but it IS money and the owners would NEVER, EVER give up money for the good of the game!

...did I say NEVER, EVER....??!! NUNCA, JAMAS....for all those hispanically impaired....means "NEVER, EVER".....LOL;)

Here in the Northeast, I actually think the bigger problem is when the season starts.

The Red Sox have been fortunate enough to play October baseball five of the last six years, but generally speaking, the brisk October nights aren't nearly as bad as most early April afternoons.

I can vouch for that. 2 years ago, the first Indians home series was snowed out.

Your user name is "Brewer", you're from Connecticut, and you are a Philly fan? Interesting...

I voted no. But I can see the day coming when TV will tell MLB to play the WS at a neutral dome site to avoid these rain delays and rain outs. I'm sure MLB will just rollover and say OK. Wouldn't it be refreshing to see a commisioner for MLB to tell the networks that no games will start after 7pm on weekdays and afternoon games only on weekends? Never happen but it's nice to dream.

Dad and his whole family from Philly. Stuck with them as I move around the world and States. Settled in New England but still rooted for Phils in National League. Family is ecstatic right now. Now if only the Eagles can get one.

Why would they start games at 4pm on the west coast? That's a lousy idea.

The problem with the games isn't the start time -- especially on weeknights. You should start the games shortly after 8pm ET to benefit the whole country. No, the issue is commercial breaks that are too long which drive the gametime to be too long and cause them to end too late. I would start them a bit earlier on weekends (I'd like first pitch to be promptly around 7pm ET) though.

What bad weather?

As far as Selig goes, without his influence and hard work, #1 there would be no MLB team in Milwaukee, #2 again without his hard work and influence we'd still be in county stadium watching the place fall apart.

My opinion is a bit biased obviously, I don't agree with everything he's done and how he's gone about it.

Especially, the All Star game debacle.

Oh, BTW I voted NO!

Because it isn't fair to us on the East coast to not be able to watch the end of a game which is the most important part of the game. So they should have to start the games earlier.

Here's an interesting tidbit regarding the '09 World Series:

The Series is tentatively scheduled to start on Wednesday, October 28, 2009; if necessary, Game Seven will take place on Thursday, November 5.

Why should the west coast always get the advantage of start times? Population is certainly greater in the east. Never understood it but they could rotate it from year to year if it's that big a deal.

How is that giving the West Coast an advantage? I live on the East coast and have no problem watching every second of every World Series game if I want to. People can make the choice to stay up late; people can't make the choice to not work.

Again, the issue is with the length of games, not the start time. Well, the start time should be more prompt though (make it at 8:05pm ET or so) but shouldn't be earlier than 8pm ET on weeknights. If they would shorten the commercial breaks and the in game speed (like players calling time out and stuff), they'd end the games earlier which would be ideal.

Now, I still don't get why they start games at that time on weekends. A 7pm ET start (or even 6:30pm or so) would make a lot more sense.

I think the price of seeing your team in another place is a moot point, people travel across the country for the Final Four tournament, plus with the price of tickets during the playoffs, how many people who don't have much money can actually afford to go to a home playoff game.

I voted no.

It's nice to see so many people wanting to scale back the season--I've felt that way for a long time. At one time, when there were 4 divisions, someone had proposed a schedule of 154 games that had a good balance between games vs. division opponents and vs. non-division opponents. I'd like to see someone redo this with the current alignment.

We do not get the advantage in MLB's mind. It is YOU on the East Coast who dictate uber alles!!! We have to deal with everything based upon EAST COAST PRIME TIME...and that, sir, is a fact. I am in no way complaining or calling out a bias here. I am simply stating the fact re: start times and $$$$.

Who is the Best Commissioner?

Brady Quinn to start Thursday against Denver... I think
