X-Box, Playstation, and Wii Game News

Well the most insulting part is that they're doing it like a Kickstarter with funding goals, which is just a joke for a AAA release. Not to mention the fact that Square Enix is VERY liberal with sales, so odds are this will be available for 50%+ off in less than a year.

Capcom will be selling a Resident Evil Origins collection, which includes the RE 0 and RE 1 Remastered games for $39.99.

With all the hype around MGS V you can be forgiven for not realizing that an open world Mad Max game was released today as well. Reviews seem to be a bit mixed, being generally positive but nothing approaching GOTY territory.

It currently has an "overwhelmingly positive" rating on Steam so it looks like it's not suffering from the Arkham Knight hangover. I would gladly take it if they decided to let people who own Arkham Knight and the season pass have a free WB game as an apology. Mortal Kombat is the only other WB game I don't already own that I would even want.

I'm not sure if you mean Mortal Kombat (9) or MK X, but honestly I'd say that 9 is the better investment. It has more characters, nearly all the same play modes, is more stable, and has a significantly better (and longer) story mode.

If I was picking one to take for free it would be MKX since it's newer and more expensive. I could probably grab MK9 for less than $5 when it goes on sale. I would prefer Mad Max to either of them since I'm not a big fighting game guy but they might not offer up such a new game.

All of this is hypothetical anyways. I'm assuming they will follow Ubisoft's lead with what they did for Assassin's Creed Unity. Give everyone who owns Arkham Knight on Steam the season pass for free. If they already own the game and the season pass let them pick another WB game for free.

With the game being bad enough to pull it from the store for two months they pretty much have to offer something. The only difference between this and the AC Unity situation is that people who were really upset about Arkham Knight could get a refund from Steam. They might think that since that was an option they don't need to offer anything. I think that would be a terrible mistake though.

Well, Square-Enix has just unveiled the Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Pre-order scheme. I can charitably say that it is certainly very original, and I will also uncharitably say that it's an AWFUL system that will likely be cancelled once they see all the backlash they receive (the video already has an awful like/dislike ratio.) The idea that pre-order reward "tiers" are "unlocked" only by enough people pre-ordering the game is an awful, manipulative system.

The ultimate Tier V bonus is the game releasing 4 days early? Really? Give me the possibility of unlocking a free season pass, and I might be interested. Otherwise *yawn*.

I just listened to this week's Giant Bombcast and they talked about this for a while. Basically their conclusion was that the tiers are fake and everything will unlock no matter how many pre-orders are sold. After hearing their argument I think they are spot on.

I just watched the video again and if you do the same you'll notice that their are no actual sales numbers listed. It's not like Kickstarter where you can see what dollar amount or number of pre-orders are required to reach each tier. They just have percentages with no corresponding total number of sales required.

What is going to happen is that the percentage is going to gradually go up and make it to 100% a little while before release. They can't say "Looks like people didn't want this game because you chumps only made it to tier two." That would be terrible marketing. They are going to say something like "The demand for this game was outstanding and you guys crushed the tier goals!" to try and drive up the excitement level and get more people to pre-order.

It's a marketing trick to try to get the fans of this series who really care about every piece of DLC to pre-order. It's probably not worth all the negative press they are getting over it because those people would have purchased the game anyways though.

Whether it was Square Enix's plan all along, they've certainly painted themselves into a corner. And it's more clear why they aren't offering anything of real value (i.e., cost to them). Based on that analysis I might be inclined to pre-order were it not for the fact I'd rather wait until the inevitable price drop in 3-4 months then get anything that's being offered in their pre-order bonus tiers.

Either way it's bad. If the tiers and sales goals are fake then they're trying to artificially increase presale numbers by pure deception, which may actually lead to some sort of FTC violation (or if not then they definitely break some sort of a$$hole code.) If they are truthful then they're just being dicks because they're really treating it like a Kickstarter and thus holding back content unless enough people buy the game early. It just looks awful no matter what way you slice it.

Here's some YouPorn console statistics. NSFW. There's nothing graphic in it, but it has terms you wouldn't want your employer to see you looking at at work.

Link because tool shrinks images and makes them hard to read.

I didn't realize "halo" was a porn genre--or are Xbox gamers searching it by mistake, thinking they are on YouTube rather than YouPorn? Or is there some kind of porn cosplay that's popular. Then again, why are Playstation owners searching "taxi" as the #1 search term? I feel so naive.
