I just love watching salsa spin in a circle.. No pressure, yes pressure, no fans, yes fans, its just crazy..

Miami has not constantly fielded a title team in almost 2 decades. They have had one or two SEASONS in the past decade worth noting but thats it. They are also in one of the weakest conferences in the BCS and can not even contend for that title every year.. The other teams people have mentioned have at least over the past 2 decades, been contenders more times then not. In fact most those schools have MULTI conference/national titles and multi BCS wins in that time period.

Face it salsa its ok to be a fan and think your team is great, but you do have to look at the facts. Miami is a middle of the road team in a WEAK ACC conference. Hope they do good every year, want them to win every game but lets not distort the facts and say they are anywhere in the top 20 or so teams in the nation.

Same could be said about Notre Dame, also a private school.
So do they not have a top football program either?

btw, doesn't Miami have 5 titles compared to Florida's 3? Don't forget, Florida is a relative newcomer to the big stage. Prior to the Evil Genius, they were pretty much another Kentucky.

Looking at the overall body of work, yes. Lately, no. They are a big name based on mostly past success right now, I dont doubt that will change again, they have tons of tradition, but lately.....

Notre Dame hasn't had a top football program for a while, no. Still, they are different from Miami in that attendance is not down, and they are not the third most popular team in their own area like Miami is.

It's hard to get back to the top once you've fallen. Notre Dame, Miami, and now my beloved MICHIGAN.....perhaps. It took Alabama a long time to get back to national prominence. Nebraska, Penn St. were also top 10 teams once upon a time. UCLA and Florida St. come to mind too, these things work in cycles, todays flavor of the year, next years forgotten team.

Do you even know what 2 decades equates to in years? Miami last played in a BCS bowl was 2004 for the 2003 season where if not for 2 late season losses that knocked them out of title contention, they had to "settle" for a Orange Bowl win against Florida State. And before THAT, they were one bad PI call away from being champs and the year before that, the team that played in NCG(FSU) had one loss and it was to Miami and they were picked over a one loss U Team. And the year before THAT, they WON the National Championship. So IF you plan to take a jab or two, atleast know what a decade consist of and get your history straight.

What facts have I distorted? That Miami does not have a major football program? They DO have one. IF they didn't they would be getting so many games on national TV and getting players commit to their program.

And about what conference they are in...please remember I don't give a ratz ass about conferences. Unlike some here, I don't get upset about you insulting the conference they are in because I don't care.

Now WHERE in my statements did I mention they were a top 20 team again? Let be real here Steve, you are WAY beyond trolling at this juncture, but if are gonna do that, keep up with the discussion and get your history straight before you do some good trollin'.;)

So just because they do not rank in the top 20 they are not a major football program? What about all those top not recruits that go there EVERY year...are they going to Notre Dame because they wanna become priest? Does Ohio State, Alabama, Florida, USC or Texas have their OWN TV contract to televise their games whether they good or not? How many college football teams can tell one conference to kiss off(the Big Ten, if not mistaken a few times) and tell another conference they can only take their non-football teams for conference? Only a legit football program has that kinda power.

OMG, I just stuck up for Notre Dame...I think I may have puked in my mouth!;):p

That is not the point. Regardless of whether those team like MY U and YOUR Michigan and someones UCLA and FSU are not competing in BCS bowls, they ARE major football powers. And they ARE getting major recruits...maybe nowhere near as many as before, but they are getting them.

ND hasn't been relevant for what 15 years now ?

No they do not. They like Miami only get noticed for their past, not their present. And yes FLA is a new comer, and their respect comes from what they have done lately, not their past. Which was the point I was making with Miami. So does Miami have historically a top program? Sure, do they currently have one or have one with in the last 20 years? No. They have had a few blips in that time frame, but nothing steady. OSU, FLA, Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma, (hell even Michigan minus the last few years under RR) Have all had a good run these last 20 years. And in College every 4 years its like you are a new team, how you recover from that loss and fill in those wholes really shows how a team is a top team or not. I wouldnt even consider Auburn a top team either, as they have had 2 great seasons in the last 20 years. About as many as Miami.

Often it only takes 1-2 great players to make a team successful. Auburn without Cam and Fairly does not even win there division let alone national title. A great program can have successful seasons and rebuild quickly to repeat. Miami has not done that neither has Auburn and other teams.

So it really depends I guess on what you consider top..

Top in history? Or top in the last decade or two?

Yes the last 20 years 1990 or so. (thats 2 decades). Miami has had 1 or 2 great seasons including the two national title seasons you mentioned. Then they had a couple good seasons. In the 90s they won a few Big East titles (but can we be honest? its the Big East.. Being the best of the Big East is like Boise or UCF being the best of there conference). They were expected to be the best and they did. But now in a stronger conference, they are lucky to make the top 3-5 teams in the conference. If they were in an even stronger conference they would be near the bottom.

What facts have I distorted? That Miami does not have a major football program? They DO have one. IF they didn't they would be getting so many games on national TV and getting players commit to their program.

I did not say you distorted facts I said you need to be real. Miami is a middle of the road team in their weak conference. Not a national power.

And about what conference they are in...please remember I don't give a ratz ass about conferences. Unlike some here, I don't get upset about you insulting the conference they are in because I don't care.

You should care about the conference because if your team can not even be the best in your WEAK conference how do you expect them to get national respect? Hell being the 3rd or fourth best team in the Big Ten, SEC, etc gives you national attention and respect because of how strong the conference is. Miami was what 5th best in the ACC this year? (I give them fifth because the other teams who tied had better overall records). 5th best in the ACC.. That makes people think poorly of Miamis program. Heck have they even won an ACC title yet? When Miami starts winning the ACC then they will get back in the national spot light.

Now WHERE in my statements did I mention they were a top 20 team again? Let be real here Steve, you are WAY beyond trolling at this juncture, but if are gonna do that, keep up with the discussion and get your history straight before you do some good trollin'.;)

Do you need to bring up your posts from last season complaining about how low Miami was ranked?;)

Notre Dame has a top 10 recruiting class for 2011. They have great facilities and a TV deal certainly helps.

Miamis class is #47..

BUT they are STILL a major football program. Eventhough based on it's pasted, they STILL recruit well in the midwest.

What do you define as major? Are they well known? Have many fans? Sure.. But in that respect Miami is not on Notre Dames league either. The Irish sell out there stadium each year, have there own tv deal with a major network etc. So if Notre Dame is your definition of Major then Miami is no where close. Miami gets on national TV only when they play a team of note. VTech, OSU, FSU etc. Miami vs Clemson is not going on primetime unless its a title match or title at stake.

You said 2 decades since they competed for the a national championship...you were off by almost 14 years. And do you even know WHY they went to the ACC? The only reason they did that was because the football team has been able to stand on it's own. The reason Miami to the ACC had NOTHING to do with football and EVERYTHING to do with basketball and try to establish their basketball program.

I did not say you distorted facts I said you need to be real. Miami is a middle of the road team in their weak conference. Not a national power.

It IS a middle of the road team, but a MAJOR football program because it still gets major football exposure....something you cannot seem to know the difference of. Middle of the road "programs" do not get the TV exposure Miami gets.

You should care about the conference because if your team can not even be the best in your WEAK conference how do you expect them to get national respect? No, I complained that they should have been ranked better a couple of seasons ago because they started the season with the toughest schedule in the country and they beat all but one team. They should been ranked higher than most...AT THE TIME. But you have a problem with knowing the difference in time... ;)

Same can be said about Florida...and and other school. Do you think Florida vs Vandy or Ohio State vs. Purdue is gonna be on national tv unless it is a regional game? LOL!

Notre Dame has a top 20 class almost every year. Miami's class has alot to do with the fact that the team did not win, they had a young team and some recruits left because Shannon was fired.
