The FCC just gave you a reason to hold off on buying a 4K TV

Yes between the comments last week from the FCC about speeds, to now this.....Its a shame we will get thrown under the bus because we little guys have no lobbyists.....Screwed again!
And how many people just dont understand the ramifications on net neutrality because there being fed lies...? sad

I don't understand. Anyone who purchased a 4k TV thinking they'd be set for OTA 4K simply didn't do their homework. The ATSC 3.0 standard has been a work in progress for years. How does the FCC saying they're going to talk about how to use it change anything from yesterday, last week, or last year when it comes to buying a new TV?

I think that article is trying to point out that NONE of the present tv sets have an ATSC 3.0 TUNER for OTA broadcasts.

So, holding off a new tv purchase until they do, could be prudent for the average person.

so you just buy a tuner..OTA is fading away as more frequencies are stolen

OTA is not fading away. I made a post a month or so ago referencing an article stating that upwards of 18% of households are using it now and that number is growing as younger people move away from traditional pay TV models..

that's not the problem..the FCC is auctioning off the frequencies being used for OTA( for 5G cellular networks)...I remember when that percentage was 100%

My new Vizio P75-C1 is called a display instead of a TV because it has no OTA tuner at all. Now that is thinking ahead. Of course I have my H3 with OTA adapter so I am able to watch OTA channels anyway. When ATSC 3.0 comes about I'm sure there will be the same kind of adapter to receive it both for my H3 and all TVs as well....

So how many broadcasters have stopped broadcasting? Parts of the spectrum are gone, but the locals have just moved to other frequencies.
Actually the spectrum isn't gone yet and the new channel lineup will not be made public for a month or two. That said, there will be some channels that will cease to exist and others will piggyback onto other channel bandwidth....

Absolutely there will be ATSC 3.0 adapters for existing tuners just as before.
I for one don't need to worry there has been no OTA in this area for 30 years.

That number is not growing as younger people move away from pay TV models, they aren't embracing OTA, they are embracing streaming.

As to the ATSC3.0 stuff, well adapters will come out as they always do if/when it becomes an actual issue.
