Wow, M$ really knows how to make themselves look great, and now they have a big bad 18-wheeler to push their product -- ah I mean Toshiba's HD-DVD product. OOPS!
I guess Blue-Ray doesn't have to promote itself because according to the execs they've already won the battle. Heck, they don't even need to advertise. :)

Hey, I have been watching M$'s game for 20 years and for many of those years I have never seen where any company that got into bed with M$ ever got out of bed with its legs attached. I believe that Gates will do anything to push VC-1 and HD-DVD to become the HD standard. That includes pushing Toshiba out of the way. Three years ago he tried to get VC-1 as the main compression technology for everything sent over the internet. He just is about there. I see M$ as big brother and while I like some of their products most are just overpriced copycats of products from other companies. Once upon a time there were great spreadsheets and wordprocessors and OS's with promise -- now there seems to be just M$. One day we will probably be paying M$ to drink water. I see Bill Gates and Microsoft as the last true 'Robber Barron' alive (the only true technology Robber Barron). And I think they act that way all the time.

Microsoft didn't need to push VC-1 that hard. When HD DVD used it their first batch of HD titles looked great. 5th element and a handful of BluRay started with Mpeg2 and looked mediocre. Most BluRay titles have since switched to VC-1 and look on par with the HD DVD releases now....

It also appears the mpeg2 on dual layer discs are better also. I hate to admit that.

Well LOTR and Matrix. Enough said.

New Line and Warner. They'll be on Blu-ray.

Meanwhile, everything from Sony, Disney, Fox, Lionsgate, and MGM is Blu-ray exclusive.

(i.e. Pirates of the Caribbean, Casino Royale, Spiderman, Reservoir Dogs, The Usual Supects...)

The format war ended when HD-DVD didn't pick-up any studio support at CES.

I disagree. They got most of the porn producers. I think Vivid is the only one, um, servicing, both channels. Several other indies went with HD DVD also.

BluRay has a bump now due to PS3, we'll see if they sustain it past the spring, and especially in the fall when those cheap Chinese HD DVD players show up at your local Walmart.....
