That is a NO - it would not count a MPEG2 channel mirrored as MPEG4 twice. That being said, if for example YES-HD is on channel 94 (as part of MLB EI) and ALSO on its own channel 622, that is 2 different channels, as 94 is a MLB-HD channel.
But channel 70 (HBO) and channel 509 (HBO) are considered as ONE and the same.
The channel 622 and 94 for Yes-HD still should only count as one channel. Just like all the Sunday Ticket channels should not count in the mix.
Channel 94 is NOT YES-HD - it is a mult-use channel, right now used for HD sports primarily

I'm curious: what's your basis for saying "majority of them", and how did you determine it costs "an $60-$70 per month" ?

Count'em up. When you add the MLBEI + SF, NFLST + SF and the Sports Pack to your monthly bill, it will easily add $60 to $70 per month. This amount did not include the other sports packages.

Big deal - $70 a month. I went to the Yankee game on Sunday - including tickets, parking, tolls, parking, beer, food, etc. it cost over $200 for ONE GAME. $70 bucks a month is a bargain. Just going out for dinner costs about $100.
bottom line - you either are or you are NOT into sports. If you ARE - you can't beat the sports on D*. If you're not, DISH is the better choice (for the next 21 days at least).

Your math may be right or wrong. Doesn't matter. I don't get the premium movie channels, so I save there. Besides, cost is not the most important factor to many people. It seems to be for you. It's NOT for me.
Don't forget ONLY ABOUT 2 MILLION subs pay for the NFL package. Thats way more than care for VOOM. Does that truth hurt?

That $70 a month is in addition to your basic programming costs. Some of us don't have your deep pockets and can't/won't pay $120/month for sat tv. Many D* customers think that they are going to get 70+ HD channels next month for the $10.99 HD fee. Won't they be surprised.

thats the point, you don't have to if you can't. but with DISH - guess what - you can't EVEN IF YOU WANT TO.
i admit math wasn't my best subject in college but i have no earthly idea where you are coming up with that figure of $60-70.
first, a sports subscription done over 4 payments is not that much money.....especially on an early bird special.
second, there are no planned price increases for the new hd until, at least, march 2008.
third, that figure is way too high to represent subing to the sports pak every month.

Isn't the sport pack add-on about $12/month? Doesn't the MLBEI plus SuperFan cost in excess of $350? Doesn't the NFLST plus SuperFan cost in excess of $350?
Sorry but I don't smoke. Currently I am working but I do enjoy DishHD not promises every night.
And yet, you seem to spend a lot of time in a D* forum just to bash them. What's the matter, is all of VOOM's HD repeats today?
That's 13 NFL channels and no more than 13 MLB (not shown). 26 of 78. Adding the RSN's pushes it past 50%, but it's not an overwhelming "majority". There are still a lot of good channels in the list above and beyond sports-related. Although you'd still have to ante-up for the premium movie channels, in addition to sports-related programming.
At any rate if you're buying HD content you can't expect to get everything for free. You can't really blame D* for targeting the big spenders with the initial big-splash; that's where their money is.
