SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Activity Discussion - Week Ending 09/15/2007

I'm pretty sure that Dish Network will add all three of those channels - as soon as they actually exist !

As of today, there are no HD versions of popular SD channels, that are not already available on Dish Network.

I thought TBS HD lit first week of September to providers. Am I incorrect in that thinking?

Well your right ,but when I get sick of watching my blu-ray movie,I can sell it on Ebay ,can you sell your PPV on Ebay?

HD-DVD just introduced three layers disks, and a second major manufacturer committed to the format.

Given Sony's history with formats, it's very possible that by the time you want to sell your blu-ray player, it will be worth as much as an 8-track player.

And to elaborate on another poster's comment about not wanting to see movies twice... I have many DVDs of movies that I loved, that are still in the shrink wrap, because they never have come to the top of my list of things to watch. As a result, I am in no rush to replace those same movies with a disk in another format I won't get time to watch.

PS You'll still need to rent HD-PPV's for all those films that are on the two labels that don't release on blu-ray disk...

I read that it was supposed to. I haven't seen anything saying that it did. Hopefully we'll get it soon, though. Did anybody notice they showed The Office in letterbox widescreen the other night. I hope this means they will have it in HD when they launch.

Alot of the NBC shows the last few years have gone to the letter box format only because they use the HD feed downconverted. The question will be will TBS pay NBC for the HD rebroadcast right or buy the cheaper SD and crop and upconvert.

Yeah TBSHD and CNNHD would be be nice and Sci-Fi would be great if they could get it up sometime before next year. BattleStar Galactica Season 4 starts next year would be nice to see it in HD. :)

I'm just hoping for Smithsonian-HD and MGM-HD. (and Sci-Fi :) )

If I recall correctly, when Dish added TNT-HD it was the night the basketball playoffs started. So there's a potential of going down to the wire.

Dish carried TNT-HD the day that it was launched, so that was TNT-HD's decision to wait until the playoffs, not Dish.

This was on 5/21/2004. Still, I'm pretty sure that Dish has some TNT-HD Basketball games on its HD Special events channel before the actual TNT-HD channel launched.

Checked the HDPPV channel guide and was surprised they actually had 9 different HD movies to choose from and several of them were actually worth ordering.

Did they add to the movies selection or did they have the same as before just repeated them more often?

I bought an HD DVD player then returned it after not able to find much to rent on Netflix. I will never spend $15 or up for any movie, but $4.99 and stored for later viewing is acceptable. I am going to wait and see if their movie selection will get better before investing in an external hard drive.

Gotcha. I couldn't remember if it was TNT's launch date or Dish's.

FYI....Blu-Ray players can be found for less than $500 bucks now. A bird told me that a PS3 with a 40Gig HD will be $399 within the next 2 weeks.

I plan on buying HD-PPV's to supplement movies that are on HD-DVD and not available on Blu-Ray.
