Do I need a phone line connected?

I have the hd dvr and another box that is dual tuner. Does only one box need to be connected or both? P.S the primary box is the hd dvr. Thanks.

If my memory is correct, E* charges an extra $5 per month for a dual tuner with no phone line connected.

Yep... I have no phone line and haven't been charged the 5$ for the last few months when Dish Network enabled the ethernet port

The HD dvr should be a dual tuner and needs to be connected as well, unless it is a 921.

Okay, so let me get this right both receivers that have dual tuners have to be connected to a phone line. Is that correct ?

To be safe, yes. If you disconnect both receivers and let them take the overnight download, you will get a message about connecting the phone line when you turn them on. Charge usually takes about 28-30 days to show up.

Ethernet is if you have DSL, no DSL and ethernet connection will not work. You would have to check for local availability.

Not necessarily DSL. Could be cable modem, satellite internet, etc.

If you have broadband internet service (usually DSL or cable) you can plug into the router or modem for your service to the receiver. I believe some receivers have wireless capability as well. You need to have a broadband internet service to make this work in any case.

I can order HDPPV channels using the ethernet connection, but for On Demmand SD channels i need phone line.

Well, i guess SD=analog=history=phone line, and HD=digital=future=ethernet/VOIP

Screw Dish i am getting disgusted.

All i have left is pray for FIOS, pray harder i guess
