SatelliteGuys.US DishNetwork Uplink Activity Discussion- Week Ending 10/13/2007

I'll at least wait until tomorrow afternoon before I let any frustration out.

It's all just a matter of time really....

We know both satco's will have the same offerings at some point....

D* has been behind for a longgggg time... I really don't think E* will stay behind long... if they do fall behind.

And Dish Network, YET AGAIN, does nothing. Sad, truly sad. I guess until we get the new bird in the air, we will be having weeks like this. Still, very disappointing.

what I dont understand is that they have the room upthere now!

I think someone said there's room for maybe 12 more channels, but much more if they start converting the HD LIL to MPEG4. Until then, Dish does have to be a bit more picky, but still, room for 12 channels and they can always eat into the HD PPV's. No additions at all is just bad.

Scott, have you heard of any new HD channels coming to E* this or next week?
And when i say new channels....i mean National channels (nothing like NHL, NBA or PPV).

Hold your horses folks... they are quietly doing something in the background. They are not going to show us their actions again and make the same mistake that caused their TBS snafu.

We are seeing a shift in the form of DishNetwork testing new HD services for it subscribers. They are not going to make the same mistake again.....

Quietly testing what? How do you know? If you'd like to share in the pub, go ahead as I have a membership now. :D:hungry:

BOOOOO to dish on this weeks uplink. Digi, dont let whoever it is scare you off. you do us all a great service, i wish you all the best either way! Can you make your tools public for doing uplinks possibly?

For a fee of course.. He has worked hard on that and deserves it at the very least.

I just fired off an e-mail to Dish..

I have been with Dish because they are the HD leader. That seems to be changing. DirecTV seems to now be fulfilling their promise to be the HD leader.

I knew about TBS-HD last Friday when it was first turned on. It wasn't till days later I was contacted by you that it was on.

TWC local weather was announced for last March in the Dish Magazine. I still don't get it. And don't tell me about that flimsy thing at Dish Home. I cannot even see the radar screen because it's so small. Bring that on as it is a big plus!

I love HD! I want CNN-HD, TWC-HD and SciFi-HD the most right now. On my 57" HDTV, the SD channels look like $hit! Honestly.

It's time for real HD all the way through.

I hope they hear that.

Getting back to the Uplink Discussion...

You guys act like satellite TV is a sporting event, rather than a business !

DirecTV's recent HD launches are a response to Dish-HD , so it is odd to expect E* to respond.

Dish has space for about a dozen national HD channels, so any HD channel not on the system is due to negotiations, not bandwidth.

Strictly a guess, but I would imagine that E*'s procedure is:
- New HD channel launches
- Check if it really had HD content rather than just upconverted-SD (this factor was mentioned by Charlie on the last chat)
- Negotiate with channel on terms and arrange logistics
- Install uplink facility and obtain feed from channel
- Test satellite broadcast
- Make Available

Somehow people have the idea that one button is pressed in Charlie's office, and presto! we instantly have the channel on our receivers. Perhaps you have been watching too many James Bond movies...

Odd how quickly forget that, isn't it ?? E* has had more channels than D* for years now and just because D* is adding a lot all of a sudden, somehow E* has to "keep up" ?? Hardly.... It's gotten to the point that people expect new HD channels weekly now ! :(

Good thing im at work right now otherwise i would throw something at my 622. Not sure how that would help the lack of HD additions for today.

patience, grasshopper, patience... :)

While I think we are all very impatient, I don't think Charlie and co. are just sitting with their heads in their asses; these things take time.

I am sure contracts with providers specify when they can launch, and its possible that DirecTV's talk about exclusive first launches of some of these channels (I am thinkign the NBCU ones) is playing some role.

Very good point. D* did tout exclusive launches in a lot of their press material. Never stated the exact nature of the exclusivity. Not likely but it potentially could be every channel D* launches.
