A few months ago if someone at D* said we'd give you 50 new HD channels but you'd have to pay $4.99/month for them I bet the vast majority would be jumping all over that deal. I don't see what the big deal is, $4.99/month if you want the HD only channels if not don't pay it or go to E* where you'd still be paying more for their HD package. This stuff ain't free folks, someone's got to pay for it.

Thanks for saying this because its something I've more than once in the last month or so. I bet most people if they look at things in a calm manner and in the view you and I have said they wouldn't be upset. I guess I'm one of the few that would gladly pay that extra five bucks a month. Hey I can just cut out one Starbucks coffee each month to cover the HD Extra Package eh.

Hey besides that - it seems a large portion of the people making these comments don't even have DirecTV - it's just another way to try to get themselves to feel better I think.

How about if 4 days ago they told you we'd be getting all those channels and it would not cost more?

It's their article, DIRECTV: HD Article

Frankly, I am not worried about the 4.99, because to me, MGM alone is worth it. But, they said what they said, and for the last couple of months whenever someone says that D* did this, or promised that, most nay sayers were right there saying SHOW ME. Well, this time I am showing you and people still want to defend D*. That I do not understand. We can argue all day about whether Voom has good content, or whether or not the 4.99 is worth it to any one individual. What can't be argued, at least this time is that D* in an article on their own website, selling the NEW HD Channels in all their glory, states it will not cost a dime more.

Reason I don't really care is I expected it, you guys are naive for believing D* when they said they would NOT raise prices(regardless of whether its on a website). I haven't believed for a minute that they weren't gonna go higher.

jeeeeez, to be politically correct here, I am not quoting anyone,,, I am just asking that in the spirit of fairness and equal opportunity that if someone says I am naive by believing what a company tells me, then the person that started the name calling would be considered a moron for believing the opposite... Everyone has their opinion, there is no need to belittle somone for having one just because it is different from your own.

I agree, D* has caused a lot of ill will by saying one thing and doing another. If they could have just come out in the beginning and say all new customers pay $14.99 for HD access, existing can stay at $9.99 for the old HD package and $14.99 for the old and the new there would have been a lot less uproar.

Exactly Rad, IMO D* (since we're in playoff season) had a chance to hit one out of the park here. Their combination of lack of communication and miscommunication has left a bad tatse in the mouths of many, Picture quality is still great and the quantity is too, so I guess I'll give them a triple. (man on third and no one out still is not too bad(oops, unless your a CUB fan))

Easy on the Cub slam, man!!

I currently have the premier package, so I am guessing that is included?? I am asking becouse I have not got the email about the new price

I also have premier and haven't received any e-mail, but I doubt it will be included since we have to pay the HD enabling fee already in addition to the premier charge.

I'm really surprised you'd think naive was name calling(or belittling) and would counter with "moron". I am actually less a moron because I did not believe them

Anyways, I'm not going to continue the argument, but if you take everything ANY company tells you for face value, then you are being naive.

From the D* FAQ:

DIRECTV is projecting to launch the NHL Network in both high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD). We anticipate the NHL Network in HD to launch in late October and the NHL Network in SD to launch in early 2008. Please check back later for more updated information.

I got the Premier package and didn't receive any e-mail about the $4.99 charge also

Every time ala carte comes up I have to chime in. We had it on C band and no one used it because by the time you picked out the handful of channels you wanted the price was higher than buying the package that included those channels.

I used it with my C-Band, I had my own Sports and then some package, talked with my provider at the time and they decided it made sense and started offering it. (TurnerVision, I think it was, it's been quite a while)
Overall, it cost less than I currently pay to D*, but much more than the cable alternative I had at the time.

I really did not think prices would go up until March, but fully expected it to happen then.
$ 5 more for the advantage of having all these channels in HD is a very small amount to pay when you look at the overall situation.

It's not like they said, come October (when the HD started to roll in) that if you wanted any HD it would cost you $20 or more to see them, like E* with the full Voom package at one time.

Actually I think they are saying that.
Arte the existing subs having to pay the extra $ 5 in Dec, or when the price increase usually happens, in March ?
I can understand if your a New sub to expect to pay it now while existing later.

I understand it to be that all subs old and new will have to pay it if they want those extras

I've always heard that D12 was to be a spare. Does D* have the FCC authority to use the additional transponders D12 would provide?
The problem with D12 is that there isn't room for it in the existing slots should everything with D11 fall into place.
