I think L446 Broke my OTA Audio

Mine keeps getting the black screens. Where I get all sound but no channel shows anything. Menus come up fine and the banner works but the video is black. I even turned it off and turned it back on and it still does it. I had to hold the power button to get it to fix itself and missed 5 min of my show.

I'm using component outs plus the analog audio L/R outs.

With the new release, I experience sound dropouts several times a day on the digital OTA stations. It is horrible.

It is also inconsistent. Sometimes, it will dropout and my ABC, CBS will have sound, but not my NBC. Sometimes, when it drops out, none of the digital OTA stations have sound.

This is all new behaviour as of the new release.

I've noticed in Tulsa 8.1 is getting the audio from the sd 8.3 and 8.3 is getting the audio from 8.1 and 8.2 has the noaa weather audio from the sap channel and when it is like this, which is most of the time since 4.46 came out, I have no audio on the other networks. I have yet to have audio on 6.2 now since this started. Usually tuning to the dish local for a few seconds or manually re-adding the channel will bring the audio back for while.

It my just be me but my Tulsa 8.1 and 8.3 audio is coming in on center channel only sicne L446 ?

Chalk up another 622 OTA sound kill for 446. No sound on 9 of my OTA channels, but there is sound on 6 PBS OTA channels and subchannels. Why PBS? Who knows.

Had a swell time with 1st-level tech support trying to explain that on OTA HD channels the 622 kept sending silent digital audio to my AV receiver, which reported it as 'PCM'. He had me press 'Info' to see if Heroes was marked '(DD)'!

I explained that my AV receiver was getting DD5.1 on the 6xxx version of ch7, but nothing on OTA ch7. When I got him to understand that it was the 622 that had the problem, not local ch7, he started writing up a ticket to send out a tech for $30!

I politely asked to escalate it to someone else. Tier 2 listened and acknowledged the 446 bug, apologized, and assured me that Dish is working on it.

See me not turning blue? That's because I'm not holding my breath. And that's because I've seen this movie before -- the first time around, it was the never-left-beta Dishplayer 7100.

My story (posted originally at a different board earlier this evening)... last Thursday evening my taping of "The Office" from my OTA was without audio. Strange I thought as I had not experienced any issues with my 722 during the couple months or so I have had it. I wrote it off as a fluke until tonight when I started experiencing intermittent audio issues with most of my OTA local channels. Specifically, there is no audio most of the time on these channels although switching back and forth will sometimes invoke sound. Very strange and it prompted a call to tech support.

I was advised that this is an issue with all Dish HD receivers and it was initially reported Friday morning. The best guesstimate is a fix might be in place by the end of the week. Until then, Dish is advising those with this problem to connect their OTA antenna directly to their HDTV.

I have had no audio issues however there have been numerous other problems.

In the past few weeks the searching for satellite dialog box comes up and takes 10 minutes to do it's thing then the 622 wants to download the program guide for another 10 minutes. After all of this, it wants to do everything all over again many other times. The only fix has been a front panel reset.

In addition, there is no picture during any of this. The strange thing is the red light for record is on and actually records programming during all of this. You cannot watch any previously recorded programs either.

It has been doing this 2-3 times per day for a week or so. We are in Michigan.

Last night I tried to record Samantha Who on ABC and there was no audio. But when the recording started, it started with about 5 seconds of the previous program that DID have sound. The sound cut off immediately when Samantha Who started:mad:. I notice also that there is sound all day long without a problem. And there was sound with Dancing with the Stars. So the sound issue seems to be only with select prime time programs:confused: (only the programs I want to watch of course).

Not just you, mono only on 8.1 in Tulsa for me too. Never thought about checking 8.3. I've never had it on my guide since its just SD version of 8.1. But hopefully it'll be moot by the time I get home and see that L447 works. [fingers crossed]

L447 showed up overnight, my OTAs have sound again, and last night's recording of Heroes is no longer soundless. :)

So I've gone from clueless to pissed to neither in <12 hours: a new record! :D

L447 now on my 722, seems to have cured the OTA audio problem. Really wish they dropped the silly huge pop-up telling you that your remote was in a mode other than SAT but heh, I got talking pictures now!

Thanks to Dish for putting out this quick fix for the OTA Audio issues!

This is the most responsive I have ever seen Dish to any software bug! On behalf of all 622/722 owners here at SatelliteGuys THANKS DISH!

My 722 also has 447 this morning, and the two OTA channels (CW and local weather subchannel) I had without sound now have it back again.

I wonder if this will fix the sound problems I have on OTA FOX and CBS during HD NFL games. The problem is a loss of audio periodically for one or two seconds and it happens to both DD on the optical and the analog outputs. I don't have the problems on OTA NBC games.

:up Agreed. They either knew exactly what the problem was and just fixed it or they worked very hard over the weekend to get it fixed. Either way, very fast response.

Very Impressive

I also have OTA audio again on my 722 due to the 447 update. Dish had no choice to but to fix this quickly as many thousands of people probably called in to complain. But they did indeed rise to the occasion and got it done quickly. So kudos to the Dish engineering team.
