Charlie Chat Caps and Bytes 12-10-07

If you look at the map shown, it looks like Mississippi has about four dots. Could be Tennessee or Louisiana. I didn't know Mississippi was a hot spot for Dish.:)

, and when Cincy comes online, I'll just "move" there.

Cincinnati HD locals? I'm interpreting that map as it being Louisville, not Cincinnati, planned for 2008... I hope I'm wrong.

Yeah, that was unbelievable. "Most HDTV's today DON'T do 1080i?" This guy is the CEO of a major satellite company? He also said that Dish broadcasts "some" HD channels in 1080i. Uh Charlie, MOST of your HD channels are 1080i. Truely unbelievable.

He was talking about native 1080 resolution of the display. A lot a 720p HDTV displays are still being used.

Still being made and sold as well. I wonder what the percentage of 720p sets is.

That map is I am sure jnot even close, otehrwise Northern Wisconsin getting HD but not majors like Milwaukee and Madison... I think someone said something about pin the dots on the map? More like Charlie throwing darts while blowing a .24 after a long night of drinking. :D

Judging by the location of dots for just Oregon and Washington the map is pretty worthless, and probably intentionally so, they left themselves lot's of wiggle room.

I really think Charlie had some 3 year old put those dots on the map...

It's all a conspiracy... they put X amount of dots and don't spell out what markets they are. Cleveland locals? Maybe. Erie? Maybe. You'll NEVER know BWAAAA HA HA HA!

Middle of Nowhere???

That map can't possibly be serious. Las Vegas - no brainer. Reno - not quite a top 100 market, but the demographics and the fact that it's on DirecTV makes it a likely planned HD market. Tucson, AZ - no HD for you, huh? Random town in middle of nowhere, Montana - Dish Network plans HD for you? or this graphic was hastily put together and has no credibility whatsoever.

Well I'm from the middle of nowhere I guess. A place so remote that almost everyone has Dish or Direct in order to get channels at all especially in the Mountains. I surely do hope our 900,000 people in Montana have the opportunity to finally get some HD!!

Will there ever be HD LIL PBS? I am served by the Reno market and I can get all the HD Locals OTA except PBS. My house sits about 1 mile east of a clear shot of the PBS transmitter (blocked by a small mountain). The only advantage for me would be the mpeg4 compression and half the DVR space for a recording.

What a Disappointment!

I've just gone through 8 pages of this thread and 90% of it has to do with the silly map E*'s marketing department so poorly represented. A simple "listing" of planned cities would have sufficed. Let's move on everybody and talk about the lack of substance in the whole program.

How about the substantive stuff along the lines of:
- new birds in the air; confirm some dates so we know when E* can compete again with D
- Pocket Dish; or at least it's Archos replacement; looks like they missed the holiday season for it's introduction
- Any Software upgrades and what we can expect from them

I'm sure this technically proficient audience can think of many others. I came out of this Chat with good Sling Box information, but that was it. Maybe waiting till March for the next Chat is too soon if all they're going to provide is small talk and ads.
