Ultimate newbie trying to hook up a C band Sat receiver

List, I am the most green, wet behind the ears satellite guy on the planet. The end all goal is to have an ASI feed from a satellite receiver. The equipment that I have is as follows:
Motorola DSR4402X IRD
6 foot dish
Gospell GCF-D11R LNB

I am trying to get a feed, (any feed) to come in on the motorola IRD. Since I am new to this, I may be unable to do what I am trying to. I am trying to connect to AMC 1, in order to pick up a free to air channel. The reason that I am using this receiver, is that the next step after the current one is to connect to a specific satellite that requires this IRD. The questions I have are as follows:

Is it possible to pick up FTA channels with my current equipment?

If not, is there a channel with moving content that I can connect to with my current equipment?

I have a birdog with the latest firmware, and I am having a heck of a time trying to align my dish. After working with it for most of a day, I have finally reached the point in which it picks up AMC 1 with a signal of 209, and it reports that it is found, but the Q reading is 0% and no matter what I do micro movements, big movements, for azimuth and elevation. I have also tryed moving the LNB offset as well. When I am attempting to aim, I only have the Birdog connected to the LNB. From what I can see, I have a good line of site without any trees, branches structures in the way.

I am located in North Eastern Pennsylvania.

Am I doing the right thing? For the life of me, I cannot get this dish to lock on with good signal.

Does anyone have any tips for me?

I've wanted one of those type of receivers to play with for a good while now, but unfortunately I don't have one, so I'm unable to help you with any specifics on the receiver?
I'm not familier with that lnb, so I know nothing about it, does it have any other specs you can relate to us? Such as, is it C-Band or Ku-Band? If you can post any specs for it, we may be able to determine it's use? I suspect it's a C-Band lnb if it came with the 6' dish, but it could still be a Ku-Band lnb, especially if the 6' dish is an Off-Set dish?
Knowing the type of lnb will help determine the usefulness of the 6' dish? Also, knowing the type of 6' dish will help? Is this dish an Off-Set dish or is it a Prime Focus dish? If it's Prime Focus the lnb would be centered above the dish, if it's an Off-Set dish the lnb will be Off-Set from the center of the dish?
There are members here with that type receiver, so they should be able to help with what it may get or how it works? It's my understanding that it will work for FTA DVB and DigicypherII signals, but you probably won't be able to get any Authorization for Subscription channels on DC2 unless you are a Cable Headend? It should however (maybe) be able to get some ITC or FP or whatever some of the modes are for DC2, if the receiver was previously Authorized? Good Luck!

This is a digital receiver ? Are you shooting for C band ? Ku band ?

Here is the chart for AMC 1

AMC 1 at 103.0°W - LyngSat

The frequencies listed from 3720 to 4180 are C band . 11760 to 12182 are Ku band .

I am not familiar with that receiver . But it looks to be a Digicypher receiver ? Like 4DTV ?

The DVB receiver I have , you have to scan for channels . Do not know about your Motorola ?

Try hunting for the channels listed as DigiCypher , in the AMC 1 chart . But you may have to subscribe to something to get the receiver " activated " , before you van pick up anything ?

I think on that receiver somewhere you have to enter the IF (intermediate frequency) from the lnbf or lnb which ever you are using. It's not a matter of just entering the downlink frequency like our FTA boxes.

Those 4400 serie are headend receivers I believe. They are not as user friendly as a 4dtv unit.

I know a some of the consumer grade digicipher 2 boxes are a little slow to lock a signal even if you have your dish right on.

Be sure a 6 foot dish is large enough to lock the signal you want (If it is C-band). many of us with C-band are running much larger dishes 8-12 feet diameter.
