I plan on spraying my 1.2 channel master with Aluthane primer then a flat topcoat. Aluthane has aluminum in it. Google aluthane, lots of info out there on it.

Tom, that looks like one I have in my yard. It's a 10' fiberglass, bought it new for $3200 in it's day. That's been awhile. It originally had 2 hand cranks, one for elevation and one to move the dish from sat to sat. The feedhorn was driven by a rotor to change the polarity, hence the funny looking feedhorn assembly? I still use mine with my 4dtv 922 and it gets good reception on both C and Ku. I don't know who made the dish, but the Receiver and LNA and Block Downconverter were made by Drake. I can't tell from your pictures, but the pole set-up looks like mine. Only, yours appears to go into the ground, where mine is welded to a cross fixture and bolted to a concrete slab.

Hello VoomVoom,
Really you got one just like it! Can you please post some images of it on this thread so that we all can see it?

I have attached another photo of the dish and you can see that there is what appears to be a mount coupler attached to the support pole. That pole goes into the ground of course!

Thanks,
Tom

Hi everyone,
If…. I do get this dish. I say that because I'm still trying to get a hold of the owners. Went there early today and no one was home. Also found the note that I left them. I went to the Tax office to see if they still lived there. They couldn't divulge any information except tell me that they had a post office box. So I went to the Post office and tried to get information from them. Only thing that I could do is send them a note to the house and P.O. Box address. Now I have to wait and see.

So we were talking yesterday in taking down the dish to remove the mount from the fiberglass dish first. Looking at it again this morning, if I did that what would I hook up to if I use the Dish Crane? I will need the square mount to hook into. I will just have to disconnect from the coupler that attaches to the pole. I also may need to dig up the pole as cast iron is too expensive these days!

Thanks,
Tom

if it was me and i was going to use a crane to move it i would just get three pieces of angle iron and weld a triangle with hooks to hold the dish in three places from the front this would cause you to remove the lnbf & arms. then tie a heavy rope to the mount for support.

Keep in mind the strongest part of the dish structure is where the pieces bolt together so you might want a straight piece straight down with two short pieces on the sides to grab each section were they bolt together. so it might look like a arrow instead of a triangle. the rope would probably carry the bulk of the load.

the easiest would be to get four people and back a pickup under it and try to lift it off into the bed of the pickup thats under the dish. I fear that with age the dish ... it will be fragle and probably cant handle a lot of weight or pressure on the sides.

another thought would be to re-enforce the four sections with a piece of flat metal on both sides of the section lips where they bolt together thus giving the dish extra support in the strongest area and then lift from these re-enforced areas.

additional thought get a can of stuff it foam spray around the inside of the lip (on the back side of the dish) all the way around and troll it out flat and smooth with a hand scraper or putty knife. this would give the dish edge extra support.

heres the luck i've had with poles i dig off the top layer of dirt and around the sides and lightly push it over with my pickup but the most concrete i've seen used around here is 4 or 5 bags. although one of the birdviews i'm looking at has about a ton of it lol

I went out and took some pictures of mine for you Tom, but my camera is an old Mavica with 3-1/2" floppy, and my computer is acting up. It was downloading from the floppy and when it finished I clicked on a picture and it painted about 2/3rds of it and stopped. A message Pop-Up said the disc wasn't formatted, and asked if I wanted it formatted? I didn't want to lose the images so I took the floppy out and stuck it back in. Now a Pop-Up is telling me to insert a floppy, it don't see it at all? Later, I'll get a fresh 3-1/2" floppy and re-format it before hand and take some more pictures and see if it will then work? I think it's my computer acting up, I've been through this before. Just can't remember what I did to fix it. I think it just started working again back then? I could get my older computer from the bedroom or buy a long enough Cat5 cable and use it, but I don't really want to do that?

Thanks for the link, a good read. Looks like the stuff is about $30 a quart. Still up in the air if I will actually do this or not. Seems as though my 1.2 primestar/channel master has mesh in the topcoat of the glass and on the very surface is a bumpy surface which under the paint appears to be aluminium. Getting off topic here so will close with that. Thanks again for the link.

Yes maybe at this point it may be an off topic since I still haven't heard from the owner yet! Very anxious to get this and feel my hands are tied! No use in thinking of getting the dish off the pole and re painting yet till I get the Go Ahead! Even though it would be nice to plan ahead!
Thanks,
Tom:hungry:

Well don't give up. I picked up a 7' mesh dish a couple of years back by leaving a note on the house. They called me. Maybe they are just away. Keep us posted on the status.

damn al it must be really old , it use's a 3 1/2 floopy? they dont even put those in computers no more? how old is your computer ,lol....wow i thought i had old things lol. im just teasing you man lol

I bought me a 25' Cat5 cable to get to the older computer in the bedroom, and thought I'd try the floppy again, and presto:

I'll have ya know two things:

1). I put a 3.5" floopy into every computer I build...
2). Have a buddy with the same Mavica, and it shoots excellent pictures, especially great close-ups!

However... about that rust... -
Ya know . . . we do have the technology . . .

I have a Mavica as well, the floppy drive has gone bad on the camera and caused the same issues you are talking about. I now use the memory stick that mine can use. Great camera - just lousy floppy drive.

Back to the Bud, Tom as you can see in the 2nd row middle picture and also in the next picture, I still have the Tenna-Rotor that came with the dish. Of course I haven't used it in years.

It does look like the same Satellite Dish

Hey VoomVoom,
Thanks for sharing the photo's of your satellite dish. It does look like the spitting image of the one that I'm trying to get. Went back there today to see if the owner was around. Still missing in action. Did talk to a neighbor and was told they should be home soon. When I was looking at the dish, it sure did look bigger then a 10' s maybe it's a 12 footer. Do you know who was the maker of your dish? Everything is so simular. You say that you're still have the Tenna-Rotor. I'm still learning here, is that the actuator that you are speaking of? Also something that is different from yours and the one I'm trying to get is that I see you have tension cables attached (last image) to the feedhorn and the feedhorn support arms. Was that standard? Or something you added? Did any cover go over the feedhorn?

Also it does look like both mounts. Yours and the one I want to get are pretty badly rusted. Maybe it's just prone to rust after a few years. What do you think of getting the mount "Powder Coated" to reject the rust?

Did you put that dish up? If so, was it heavy? Wondering how you took it down and put it up??

Thanks so much again for sharing those photo's of your dish! :clap
