It was mentioned in another thread, but that one ended like this:

WGN is owned by Tribune which generates/provides the EPG data; so they either leave it in as a lark or missed it .

Could be that WGN Superstation's HD version does carry the show(s) in HD but D* only carries the SD version of the channel.

I've noticed no change in HD with D* But E* when they went to Mpeg4 I think it looks worse then when it was MPEG 2

Your wrong, you don't think IT IS WORSE! When Mpeg-4 came to E* I regretted getting them. Now I'm back with D* and am happy. Though I like the Dish DVR better.

As far as D* HD Quality. It looks great to me. You should check the channel you are watching and make sure it is an MPEG-4. Some channels are still Mpeg 2 and downrezzed. Also make sure your setup is correct and you have no alignment issues.

The channels that are mpeg2 are in the 70s i believe so they are channels like ESPN,ESPN2,Universal HD(I Think), Hdnet and HDNet Movies.

I have to agree with some posters even though it may be my imagination but I thought the MPEG4 PQ has improved a bit lately.

When I first switched to D*, I A/B compared D* with E* MPEG4 HD's for a week before I returned E* equipment, at the time D* was just a little better than E*, but both MPEG4 were solid.

You can definitely see the difference between the Mpeg 4 and Mpeg 2 channels with 4 being superior and having more pop! I also jumped ship from *E over to *D since June and am not sorry I made the switch. The clarity and color on their HD Channels are much better to me on my 50" Plasma going thru a HR21. Also the SD pic isnt as bad as people say.

All I have to say is watching ESPNewsHD, I now think the reason for ESPNHD not being that sharp is due to MPEG2, they were showing the Dallas vs Golden State highlight and you can tell how much clear the game is. Come D* move these channels to MPEG4 already

I thought Espn on 206 was Mpeg4! isn't channel 206 on the 103 satellite?

None of the legacy MPEG2 channels have been converted to MPEG4 yet except the west coast DNS channels. All other MPEG2 channels that have been mirrored to another channel (ESPNHD 73 - ESPNHD 206) are still MPEG2. Once D11 is operational, hopefully they convert them to MPEG4.

Somebody had a post, don't remember if it was here or DBS, where he listed all the MPEG2 channels and their transponders. His latest listing showed only 2 MPEG2 HD channels per transponder now vs. 3. If that's correct I wonder if someones checked the resolution and bitrates lately to see what they are?
