Which is absurd because I know that I have seen that movie in HD on other channels so if they really wanted to (and wanted to pay for it) they could have shown in real HD.
Gosh! Here I was innocently enjoying the forbidden knowledge of a... gasp... satellite TV hacker
I will of course now completely expunge this tainted knowledge from my memory. And avert my eyes from the screen, should I accidentally come across any references to this vile information. Lest I become overwhelmed with the urge to find out what HD channels the almighty Dish may bestow upon us "soon" (or at Team Summit which ever comes first). For in my completely innocent zeal, I may chance to fall in with the wrong sort of folks who might lead me into temptation yet again

AMEN...stretch-o-vision of SD content is a pox on the HD world. I can't believe anyone actually prefers this.
I will admit that TBS and TNT are much better. But the instant I see that scaled stretch on a program I change the channel. It is a reflex, like sticking a finger down the throat! I gag the same way with either stimulus.

Dish certainly tells their "partners", i.e. the networks and/or channels, but they do so in confidence. That channel inadvertently told that number...
If the reported info is true, then it is sad that Dish has chosen to uplink "West" HD channels prior to having all the other channels from that provider (i.e. "Cinemax West" instead of "MO-MAX").
The West channels have the exact same programming. At this point, the number of Premium subscribers with HD and without a DVR, and on the West Coast, has to be a tiny fraction...

Either way at least we are seeing activity for a change from E* For the last 6 months or so been real quite with a few tidbits here and there. Now we are finally starting to see some well deserved action after getting are butts kicked for the last 6 months in the new HD channel department. I am just relieved to see that E* hasn't given up yet. Bill
I'd be interested in knowing whether channels are in the habit of giving Dish actual content for testing before they have a contract. Because some of these channels were said to be showing live video on Dish for quite a while (I don't think they were even scrambled at first, just not given proper program table entries), and as far as I know they're all distributed either scrambled or closed-circuit. So either they're all letting Dish have their content before they get a contract, which seems foolish, or they do have a contract, which makes Dish liars, or Dish is testing them from a DirecTV subscription or something, which wouldn't be legal.
Getting all these channels up would be huge in terms of catching up to D*. It would leave D* with an advantage in the HD premium movie channels (mainly the Starz family); the Fox channels that E* customers probably won't see until the lawsuit is settled; and channels that have reportedly shown very little in HD (And yes, I know I'm not including RSNs- trust me, I suffer from E* being behind on these).
25 national HD channels (Including the 3 from the second half of last month) wouldn't be too shaby for a month's time. Add in the locals that have rolled out and that would be a BIG month for E*.
Granted, none of the 22 uplinked are available yet- so the fat lady hasn't started singing yet.
A quick question for the more technically inclined among us: It appears that E* got these up by foregoing the Eastern Arc feeds. Any ideas on how much space is left on 61.5 to add more HD in the near term? Or is this big roll out pretty much it? (By my novice count they gained a total of 4 TPs on 61.5- 2 from Sky Angel, 2 from converting NYC and Boston to spot. That's room for what, 28 National HD channels? But wouldn't they want to keep a TP empty in case something goes wrong with a TP that is being used?)

I agree with your thinking, but movement on the HD front is a plus.
:Besides, getting the whole suite of channels for a penny a year, it just doesn't seem right to complain that they're adding HD versions of the wrong ones.

Where did this list come from? Its different than what was reported by the banned one, and is sorta outta line with the Charlie Chat screen captures from March. I know things change, and E* may now be adding CNBC, Mojo, WFN, 5-Star Max, Max W, Hallmark Movie, Show W, and TMC E, instead of some of some of the possible 25 announced on the last Charlie Chat, but why and how is this list more official than what the banned one provided? I'm really just trying to understand the why and how of this list, and I'm not attempting to argue its validity.
Oh, and I like Tony's list!...and notice the lack of Viacom & Rainbow Media channels (BET, Nick, MTV, CMT, VH1, AMC, IFC)...
