Sorry if these questions have already been asked & answered but I did a, "search", and nothing came back.

1) The "slimline" dish designed to receive signals from all five satellites appears in configuration to me much like the oval 3 lnb dish. I have a commercial 3 lnb dish by Channel Master that is larger than the one that Directv gave out. Is it feasible that a retrofit kit will come out to convert this to a 5 lnb dish without throwing out all the dish hardware?

2) While I have wired my home for Directv HD in anticipation of a resident wanting it, I don't currently watch HD programming. The only HD tv set that I have is wired thorugh an old DirecTivo DVR so the picture is seen in standard resolution. If I don't change this setup, is there any reason for me to change to a 5 lnb dish? Currently, I am told that the large dish I have makes pixelation less likely than a smaller dish in bad weather and thats all I really want.

3) Are the two new satellites going to be dedicated to sports programming?

4) I have read, somewhere, that one of the satellites is "underperforming"? Is this true and, if so, what does it mean?

5) Is Directv currently beaming scheduled programming from these new satellites or are they still in "testing" mode. If the latter is true, when are they going to roll out the new features that these new satellites make possible, if any?

I would appreciate any time you could take to clear up any of these questions.

Thanks.

1. Not likely
2. All the new HD channels require the 5lnb.
3. not dedicated, but gives a lot more HD sports
4. The first of two had a few issues with some spotbeams. Not sure if it is fixed, but seems minor
5. One is active for almost a year now, the other goes live in August or September this year

It's feasible, but not likely.

If you dont have a H2X or a HR2X, there's absolutely no reason to go to a Ka/Ku dish. No DirecTV standard definition receiver, except the R22, can receive the Ka band signal nor decode MPEG 4 signals.

3) Are the two new satellites going to be dedicated to sports programming?

If you mean exclusively, the answer is no. If you mean will they be used to expand the HD sports content, the answer is a resounding yes! DirecTV now carries the most HD sports programming of any provider.

4) I have read, somewhere, that one of the satellites is "underperforming"? Is this true and, if so, what does it mean?

Some of D10's spot beam antennas can't be steered to the desired locations. This is generally believed to affect the northwest portion of the US.

DirecTV has four satellites tasked for HD carriage-Spaceway 1&2 and DirecTV 10 & 11. The Spaceways have been in operation since at least 2005, but are exclusively for HD (and some SD) local into local (LiL) channels. D10 went into operation in 2007, and carries 95 channels of national HD programming to all DirecTV HD subscribers, in addition to increasing the HD spotbeam capacity. D11 will be going into service soon, and will add to both the national and LiL HD capacity.
