Live Blog: Microsoft E3 2008 Press Conference | Game | Life from Wired.com

Engadget & Joystiq live from Microsoft's E3 2008 keynote - Engadget

Some pretty decent announcements:

Gears 2, Fallout 3 and RE5 demos
Dashboard redesign
Netflix partnership
Song list for Rock Band 2 (AC/DC!!!)
Songs from Rock Band 1 importable to RB2
Metallica's new album coming to GHIII and WT
Some cool new arcade games

Possibly the most surprising:

Final Fantasy XIII. Same release date as PS3

Biggest rumor that didn't show up (IMO): No motion conroller for 360 (unless you count the mic for Lips)

Should be interesting to see what Sony and Nintendo counter with tomorrow.

MS is basically releasing home before Sony is. And they got FF 13. Somewhere some Sony execs are crying. And Square is cashing a big fat check.

Well don't have to buy a PS3 now. Kudo's to MS

Somewhere on these forums, Icewolf is very sad

Sure did set the bar pretty high for Sony. How to counter? Make home available for open beta this weekend or something, thanks!

Really hope their biggest announcement isnt something like a Movies and TV marketplace.

Maybe after this they will curl up into a ball like Toshiba did when Blue ray won. :D

I see this a lot like when WB went Blue. It pretty much puts the writing on the wall.

Keep in mind, M$ is getting the ported version, so its not going to be a ground up game built for the 360.
If the PS3 version comes out before the 360's version, then it be good for Sony, if not...oh well.
1 BD disc vs 3 Disc. LOLZ.

Keep this in mind, FFXIII will debut for the PS3 first in Japan, so another failure for M$ in Japan.

Update 2: There will be no FFXIII in Japan...that's huge considering the huge fan base in Japan. Oh well, 360 will never be successful in Japan.

What’s the development process for the game? Hashimoto: “As we announced at the Microsoft presentation, as of today we are ready to start developing the title for Xbox 360. First, we will complete the PS3 in Japan. Then after that we will start localization of ‘FFXIII’ for PS3 for US and Europe. Then at the same time, we will start Xbox 360 the version development. That’s our entire process of development.”
Update: The latest story coming out of Square Enix's press conference today is that the game will only see its way to Xbox 360s on U.S. shores, which makes a certain amount of sense when you consider Microsoft's failure to secure even half a beachhead in Japan. (It's also a surefire way to ensure that situation doesn't change.) Also: Final Fantasy Versus XIII, an action-RPG entree in Square Enix's polymorphous "Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy XIII Compilation," remains 100% PS3-exclusive.

Nothing to be upset about,
God of War 3 might be announced tomorrow, I hope they also announce Uncharted Drake, and possibly more info on KillZone 2.
I am looking for some new announcements from the Sony Studio...
I was Impressed by M/S's announcement about FFXIII.
We will see how everything plays out.

FFXIII might be in 1 disc for the PS3.
How about the 360?
2-3 Discs possibly. I highly doubt it will fit in one disc, unless they cut every single cut scene and reduce the graphics to crap.

I don't think number of discs is going to be what we're talking about when it is finally released.

Once it is complete, it will be released for the PS3 in Japan. It's being built for PC (though I am not aware of it being released for PC) so 'porting' it over to the 360 shouldn't be that big of a deal. That will be started after it is released in Japan, concurrently with the work to localize the game. Will then be released simultaneously in the US.

Huge, huge blow to Sony, I really do not expect a bigger announcement short of Home open beta starting this weekend, and even then it won't really outshine this in the log run.

Not sure what they're thinking with Home... without maintaining a team of designers it's going to just get stale... adding more overhead to the free online experience they are offering.

I am even a little wary of Killzone 2, exclusive FPS titles have a ton more to prove after Haze turned into a worse failure than Lair. It has a ton to prove before just becoming another 1-2 week diversion from COD4 or whatever has finally supplanted it.

We'll see tomorrow, but not as happy with my PS3 purchase anymore... all this momentum they had going into the year and it feels like it is escaping them.

From the interview they had with the owners, they never said its "being build for the PC".

I love the PlayStation Dual Shock controller for FF. I think the Sixaxis feature can come handy in the game too, we will see what they will do with it.

We will all see tomorrow about it.

It be nice to see announcements of :
God of War 3. (This game can actually jump start Sony). I expect a freaking ****** good trailer/game play demo.
Resistance 2 (great online game)The game trailer looks like Halo 3.
Killzone 2
Little Big Planet.
Uncharted 2 (one of the best games on the PS3 very underrated).
Home
Final Fantasy XIII Versus game play, and possibly online play (free).
Final Fantasy 7 HD Remake (I doubt it, but got dammit, they should really do it, I don't care if its exclusive or multiplatform)

Maybe few more announcements, who knows, I just can't think of anything good for Sony lol.
Either way, I have to agree with Square Enix, with today's economy, if M$ gave me 100 mil or whatever amount, I'd take it and release it multi platform.
Games will be more successful multi platform, I think the exclusivity of games is kinda getting out of trend if you ask me.
Who knows, come PS4 and Xbox 3, most things could go multi platform, by that time, people will decide the console that is going to give them the best bang for the buck.

Sony never disappointed us so far on E3, we shall see what they pull out of the hat?

Well this was supposed to be the year of the PS3, but it is quickly shaping up to be a 360 sweep for the holidays.

And all of the best RPGs are on the 360.

The only thing that may save Sony is a FF7 HD remake. Otherwise I see the PS3 going the way of the Saturn. Highly complicated sophisticated hardware (to the point no one wants to develop for it)

Also on the disk issue. Well in another press release located at www.majornelson.com fall update allows total install of a game and play back from HD. I would not do this as I am against installs on consoles. But for those who find swapping disks disgusting, this eliminates the need.

Most 360 owners are 20GB owners, going to suck for their budget to upgrade their HDD.

Ha! Sony takes another hit.

3 Discs? Who cares..... I think I had a bunch in the 90's when Wing Commander 3 and 4 and Final Fantasy 7 were making me swap every now and then....

Oh, and BluRay may be bigger, but our drives load faster so less time at the load screens right?

Thats why most games for PS3 have a mandatory install. to speed up that process. Or in some cases they duplicate data across the disk (since they do have room to spare)

And yeah 20 gig HD is like the ps3s 20 giger. Going to suck for people who will have to upgrade (it's also why MS is phasing it out and going with a 60 gig model SKU)

Let me first say I have a PS3 and a 360. And the fanboys of both sides make me laugh. They always find the most ridiculous spin when something "bad" happens with their console of choice.

For instance this its going to be on 3 discs crap makes me laugh. They totally ignore exactly what you said. I believe when Oblivion came out the developer said they had to basically put the game on the disc 3 times to improve load times. When your loading a disc with 20 gigs of redundant data to improve speed there are issues.

Also who cares if FF is being ported from the PS3 to the 360. Until recently like 90% of the games that have been on the 360 and PS3 were developed on the 360 and ported to the PS3.

Correct, after the initial install on the PS3, the loading time should be significantly faster than the other version since the game is being installed on your system.

You can install the entire game on all games for the 360 after fall update. That argument now holds 0% water.

If you want to argue about MS policy of having core systems with no HD though, More power to you :)
