Dish forgets about Newton's 3rd law-Every action has an equal and opposite reaction

Dish
action - dump dead weight (Voom)
equal and opposite reaction - Add channels people (majority) want

Now Dish shouldn't have waited until 8-1 to do so but it is a good business decision.

You say it's Communication, I say it's Trust
Many people are more informed then you realize. With everything moving to Digital. They are researching cable, satellite more then ever. With more people buying HD. They are looking for the best Bang for the buck... People do read about the problems with AT&T and Tivo and how they took 15 channels away without a letter or email or any information about them taking them channels away from us. Word of mouth gets around, do something right a few people here about it, do something wrong everyone heres about it...Trust is something you earn. I feel Dish is not doing that...Selling people on channels your getting rid of is not trustworthy.
By the way, they are losing customers who had Voom, maybe not a whole lot but they are losing them. You can check this forum and other forums to see there outrage. Dish anymore is pretty much the same as anybody else. What set them apart were the Voom channels. And hense my decision to go back to cable. This way I don't have to deal with Dish poor and untrustworthy customer service. !protest

I think you are giving most new subs too much credit, and the rest too little. Most subs will just look at who offers the best deal providing the most HD channels they are familiar with and feel they will actually watch, regardless of HD content. They won't even know about the TiVo and AT&T troubles.

Others who dig deeper will see that the 15 channels dropped are ones that they never watched or heard of (obviously as they are new Dish subs), and won't care that they were dropped. If anything, they will be happy Dish traded those channels for the mainstream channels.

And while they've lost Voom subs, they will quickly gain many replacements as they are much more competitive with Directv now.

Dish
action - dump dead weight (Voom)Yet Voom kept Dish ahead of the game until no longer needed.
equal and opposite reaction - Add channels people (majority) want(Funny I don't remember voting)How do you know this to be true, were are your facts....

Now Dish shouldn't have waited until 8-1 to do so but it is a good business decision.
That's why sales are down and the loss of more than 37,000 customers, not counting losing AT&T. REAL SMART!!!!

Opinions are like butt holes everyone has them...
My question to you would be do you work for them???
You spend a lot of time defending them. you must of liked the way they can take programming away at there leisure without informing us of that fact and still charge the same price. If your wife or girlfriend lied or cheated you, you'd be ready to get rid of her. Dish doe's that to you!! And your saying give it to me baby!!! It's about TRUST I don't TRUST them anymore.
Who cares if you dislike Voom, it is your choice if you don't like them but is also my choice that I do.. Your a Hater and your only trying to feed the fire....:p

That 37,000 losss is an estimate form one analyst. It might be what happens but it is alittle early to be usingit as proff of anything.

Where did you get this info from? I don't believe any of it is accurate. Sales are not as high as previous years but they are not losing money. Yes Dish has lost more than 37,000 but have gain way more than that. I didn't know they lost AT&T yet.

AT&T has nothing to do with Voom going bye, bye. A very small amount of lost subs are because of voom. The amount of new subs coming in is probably because of good marketing by Directv, Cable company bundle packs and the economy. Again nothing to do with Voom.

And while they've lost Voom subs, they will quickly gain many replacements as they are much more competitive with Directv now.

Sacrificing quality for quantity.

Some here like to call Voom dead weight and channels nobody wanted or knew about but that's true for nearly every channel added back in their place.

All Dish has left is entry point price and locals that DirceTv may not have. DirecTv will be turning on many more locals soon and all Dish will have is entry point price and they are slowing climbing on that too.

- Customer service is mediocre at best
- Fewer HD channels at a lower PQ
- No real sports choices and expensive to get the choices that are available
- Changing packages so often nobody knows what is available and what is not but paying more fees anyway
- No real difference to make them competitive

The new DVRs? J6P doesn't care and many of those are used to Tivo which makes them hate Dish menuing options.

Channels J6P wants? Poll those viewers and you will see the vast majority typically watch no more than 12 channels.

Dumping Voom makes sense in my mind for these two reasons:

1. Need to maximize profit in order to pay off Tivo
2. Need to standardize the channel line-up in order to sell subscriber base to competitor.

My question to you would be do you work for them???

Don't work for them

I don't pay the same as I did when I had voom. I pay $10 less.

I don't feel cheated. Dish got rid of channels that were not very popular to add channels that are. Also, if you read the contract you signed, you would have seen that Dish can take away or add channels at anytime with or without notifying you. You shouldn't have signed the contract if you didn't agree with it.

Who cares if you dislike Voom, it is your choice if you don't like them but is also my choice that I do.. Your a Hater and your only trying to feed the fire....:p

Obviously, you care that I don't like Voom. I didn't know I wasn't allowed to have an opinion.

I totally agree and was not insinuating that...I myself want to control what I view!! Now if there were one of those type busineses around:eureka
I gave my view
by the way I was dealt...
Dish needs help bad in there customer service, if channels were leaving, we as customers still should have the right to know, instead of having to turn on the channel to find it gone. Again my opinion...

But that is an opinion. It is only quality if it is something you would want to watch. You say the average Dish viewer is Joe six pack (J6P) maybe that is what J6P wants.

The new DVRs? J6P doesn't care and many of those are used to Tivo which makes them hate Dish menuing options.

Or maybe they will like it better. It is the top DVR for a reason.

Channels J6P wants? Poll those viewers and you will see the vast majority typically watch no more than 12 channels.

Poll them and see if any are voom.

- No real difference to make them competitive

There being little discernible difference by definition makes them competitive. While it would be better if they had superior offerings for all, having the same offerings for the same price does not give Directv an advantage, as you seem to think. Dish has to get equalt to Directv before they can pass them

And someone that just got an HDTV doesn't know quality HD. They only know what SD channels they watch, and they want to know who has them in HD. That is all. And besides, I think some of what was added is quality HD.

PQ is debatable. We don't all have 70" TVs. Dish HD looks fine on my 32" LCD.

You think Dish sports packs are expensive. Have you checked out ST, MLB EI, etc. over at Directv, particularly the HD options? And while Direct does have superior sports options, not everyone is obsessed with out of market games.

Dish has generally catered to the general tv and movie crowd as opposed to the sports audience. Until recent years, that is. It's tough to compete with Directv's sports packages, but Dish is now trying.

Why? Because sports fans tend to spend a lot more money on their programming than general tv and movie fans.

Poll them and see if any are voom.
We know they aren't but that doesn't mean they are crap or deadwood. We have hundreds of channels meeting that description that we are still getting from Dish.

MTV is the biggest steaming pile on tv today but we are all stuck with it.

Of course Dish is catering to J6P - J6P can't be bothered to elevate himself, he instead insists that everything be dumbed down to him.

I'm beginning to understand why some people left tv a long time ago.

Sounds like a better idea every day.

Tv for many people is a way to wind down after a hard days work. Just because your tastes are different than the average person, doesn't mean that you are better than them.

A good deal of programming on Voom catered to the average person and wasn't in what ever elitist standard that you have. Yes, there was fashion shows and art shows and movies from foreign countries, but there was also concerts, BMX stunt shows, monster movies and childrens shows from the 60's and 70's.

Voom just didn't make it. To make it sound like J6P (as you say) caused this is crazy. Voom never grew even after they failed as a stand alone. You would think that maybe they would do something to change but they didn't. Now that voom isn't on Dish anymore are the trying to get new carriers? If not. Why?

If I picture Voom as a person I see a forty year old Guy living in his parents basement. He plays in a cover band at a local bar once a week and thinks he is a rock star. He has the same set list for the last 6 years and occasionally will add a new song or 2. He is a great musician but never did anything since his first band failed. Now the bar let him go in favor of new acts. Bands that play music the crowd wants to hear. There are a few people that are upset about it. They are the same people that came ever week to hear Free bird and this guys own version of Anarchy in the UK, where he replaces UK with USA. They are upset but most get over it. A few decide that they will no long visit the local bar and will start going elsewhere. Does the Bar notice? No, because they have new customers now. It is business as usually at the Pub. As long as the bar still makes money, they don't care.

Because a company can do a thing based on such contracts doesnt mean they should... or that its good for business. I think, for example, Comcast had the right to do their traffic shaping (or whatever they called it) to counter file sharing. Cost them in the long run due to the backlash and they had to back off.

But what cutting voom was good for business? What if Voom wasn't meeting the spending requirements? What if Dish was getting a lot of complaints about constant repeats? What if the previous was true and Dish could get rid of voom and add channels that customers have been requesting?

It seems to me that is exactly what happened. Remember the 5 month long thread about the Sci-Fi channel?
