Hi all,

I'm new here, so please bear with me. :)

Here's what I'm trying to do. I live in the St. Louis area, and I have a DTV dish on my roof. I think it's a dual-LNB, although I'm not positive. We don't have any HD channels, though.

Anyway, here's the idea. We live near St. Louis, and we're going to travel to the northeast, to a vacation house. This house doesn't have cable or satellite, and I was wondering if I could bring my DTV with me.

If so, I would then obviously buy a second dish, and then I guess take one (or a few) of my receivers with me.

Would it be as simple as re-aligning the dish and setting up the receivers? Or do I need to contact DTV? Or... what's the smartest way to do this? I'm assuming I would buy a dish, a tripod for the dish, and then possibly another multi-switch.

Also, I'm sure DirecTV doesn't want (or allow?) you to use one account in two places, and obviously while I'm on vacation, I won't be using DTV at home, and wouldn't care if it was disabled while I'm on the road.

I'd really appreciate your insight on this! If you need more info, feel free to ask.

Thanks a bunch! :)

Luke

D* allows this type of usage, provided the receivers aren't being used at both locations at the same time.

The easiest solution is to buy a second dish, and take it with you to setup at the new location. The receiver will give you the instructions on how to point the dish for the zipcode you're at. You can get that information beforehand by entering your temp zip in the repeat guided setup menu.

A couple of pointers about setting up the new dish. 1) Make sure the mast is plumb. 2) Use RG-6 cabling with compression fittings. 3) Don't use any type of splitters 4) The receiver will lose it's authorization if it doesn't see a sat signal every 30 days or so.

Hey, thanks a lot! That's good to know. Do I need to unplug any receivers I left behind to ensure that it doesn't register as double usage or whatever?

I am just interested how Dtv will know that you are using the receiver at a different location. Is there a GPS device in the receiver, and would they know that you move your receiver from the primary location?

This used to be accomplished using the telephone line. In your situation, someone might ask why you can't get your local networks and that will tip them off. This is a relatively lousy time to be without network TV.
