My 211 DVR function is activated

To the people that have the DVR feature activated and working on their 211, what brand of EHD are you using?

Probably a dumb question

If you have seen any of my other posts, I am having issues getting my DVR function to work with my EHD on my 211. My service has been activated, everything is hooked up properly, correct software, etc. I have a brand new Western Digital MyBook 640GB EHD. Straight out of the box, I hooked it up to my 211, the 211 recognized the drive and gives me the message to call and activate the service(which I have already done and been charged for). Here is my stupid question. Since I've never had an EHD, is there anything I need to do to format the drive before it's hooked up to the receiver or should it do that itself when it's hooked up to the receiver? I'm just trying to think of anything that could be wrong on my end that is keeping me from being able to utilize the service. I apologize if this isn't the correct thread to ask this, but I figured anyone looking here may be able to provide some insight. Thanks in advance.

Just start reading the thread from post#15 - Foxbat provided exhausted info for you.

No Luck

I went home during lunch time and called dish to activate my vip211k EHD feature. They activated it and I never got the hard drive format screen. I waited for an hour and chatted with tech support but they couldn't find anything wrong. I tried for one more hour and got back to work. No luck.

I have a 120GB NetDisk 7200rpm AC powered USB hard drive. After I connect that to receiver I got the 499 screen to activate. I did activate and nothing happened after that. Will give it a try in the evening.

Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Yeah, I mean, everything is fine. After talking to tech's and CSR's, they have all determined the setup is correct and my service has been activated. But when I reboot the receiver, it comes up and says the receiver recognizes the hard drive as DVR capable and to call the number to activate. I have already activated, but no DVR. So, my process stops at getting the receiver to recognize a hit to activate the drive. I've already invested 3 hours talking with Dish last night, and I suppose I'll be doing the same tonight.

Same thing here BigTicket. I'm sorry you're having trouble, but I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one.

Hi all
My experience:
Connected a new WD 640 HD. 211 presents screen 499. Called the automated center and "activated". Nothing happened after that. An hour and 20 minutes later called CSR. 15 or 20 minutes later: "We can't help you, all our troubleshooting procedures are what you did, unplug and re-plug receiver. Maybe we can send you a rehit of the signal". I sighed, and said "yes".
Then, I disconnected the drive, power off and on the receiver, reconnected, etc., always to watch the 499 screen again... This continued for a while...

At last, I reset the receiver, by pressing the front power button for several seconds. Watched everything come back and still received the 499 screen . I was almost defeated...

THEN...

3 or 4 minutes after the 499 screen had disappeared and I was (with the TV on) reading the forums, I received a "your DVR has been activated" screen. Went on and reformatted the drive, watched the receiver reset itself a couple of times, and VOILA!, I am in business!! DVR is working (at least pause, FF, Skip fwd and bwd, etc.. Have not recorded anything yet.

TOTAL TIME: 2:30 hours

Good luck! And patience!

Sweet! I'm hoping to have a similar resolution when I get home tonight!

Activation of 411's

I have the series 411 receivers. I plugged in the EHD and received the 2 screens that recognize the EHD and give you the activation phone number.
I called the number and the "automated system" could not activate the EHD.
I ended up finally chatting with technical services, and they are having problems with their computers that will not let them enter an activation code for 411's (411's ARE on their list as being able to be activated).
They hope to have the problem resolved "soon".

I activated my 211 HD at noon and just got home from work and it works just like the 722, except ther is only one Dish tuner and one OTA tuner. If your recording you have to watch prerecorded shows, since there is only one turner. I HAVE A 500GB wd MY book essential and it works fine. It had been used as an extra HD for my 722, but I wasn't using it. the 211 recognized that it was formatted for the 722 and ask to reformat it, warning that I would loose any programs that were on it. I had already moved the movies to the other HD last night. So the drives cannot be moved back and forth between the 722 and the 211.
