Ok, so ive decided to upgrade some audio, the Polks have done well but I just feel they may could be better, especially the sub. The first upgrade will be spent at Bestbuy because of numerous gift cards, so Ill list my current equipment and what Id consider going to. Thanks in advance for any input.

RCVR
Currently a Onkyo TX-SR605 - 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver | Model Information | Onkyo USA Home Theater Products

Dont really know I need to mess with this, a Denon 1709 Denon - 560W 7.1-Ch. SIRIUS Satellite Radio/Apple® iPod®-Ready A/V Receiver - AVR-1709 might be an alternate, but I dunno if it gains me anything??

SUB
Currently a PSW10 Product Page : 10-inch Powered Subwoofer : Polk Audio , and I know there is room for improving this one.

Maybe a Definitive Technology - ProSub 1000 10" 300-Watt Powered Subwoofer - Matte Black - PSUB1000BLA ?

CENTER
This is a problem area for me, I need a small center because of my tv being in a corner (hard to mount above) and to tall a center cant sit in front of the tv because it is higher than the bottom of the screen

Currently a Polk Audio - RM 2008 Series Loudspeakers - Big Speaker Sound... Without the Big Speaker

Looking at Definitive Technology - ProCenter 1000 4-1/2" Center-Channel Speaker - Gloss Black - PROCENT1000BLA or Definitive Technology - Mythos Seven 2-Way Center-Channel Speaker - MYTHOSSEVE

FLOORS
Currently M20 Product Page : Two-way floor-standing loudspeaker : Polk Audio

Dunno whether to go back with floors or new bookshelfs

Definitive Technology - Mythos Gem 4-1/2" 2-Way Bookshelf Speakers (Each) - Black - MYTGEMXLBL

or

Definitive Technology - ProMonitor 1000 5-1/4" Bookshelf Speaker (Each) - Gloss Black - PROMONBLACK

Once again, thanks for an input. Ill prob be able to spend aroundf $700-800 in this shot, so I might get two components in :D

Tough decisions. I would upgrade speakers to a really good set first and then upgrade the receiver later down the road. You really want to make sure at least your L/C/R all match and your sub does tight bass. How much height do you have in front of your TV? I don't do a lot with Polk and DT, so I really don't know how they sound and what your environment is like.

I have done a lot of work with the B/G Radia Z5 series. They are small and compact but deliver the most amazing sound. I ended up getting a set for the bedroom. The height for the center is 6 7/8". They run 400 each.

I think I only have about 5.5" or so to the bottom of the screen.

Thanks for the input, I guess since Im going to spend some dough at BBuy first, maybe I should buy my sub there and then look externally for L/C/R. I have read that the Magnolia Def Tec speakers are very nice.

Do you know anything about the Klipsch subs?

Klipsch - 12" 650W Powered Subwoofer - SUB-12

Thanks.

With currently getting OK sound from the polks but having a weak polk sub, would you recommend the sub purchase first? Or would it be more important to get better L/C/R?

That's always a tough one. A good sub is a must, but I personally like good mains first as that is where the dialog, music, effects, etc are (except the LFE).

I think I agree. The sub doesnt see as much use, especially with a lot of TV watching.

I think Ill buy this with my g. cards and a little outta pocket dough:

Def Tech ProMonitor 1000 5.25 Bshelfs $220 each
Sanus stands $70
Def Tech ProCenter 1000 $220

Should all run me about $800 when done.

Add the Klipsch sub early into next year. The Icon may be a tad much, but the 650w 12" at $470 aint too bad and should boom :D

Thanks for the help.

Comparing specs:

DT 1000 Bookshelf
5.25 Mid, 5.25 radiator and 1" tweeter
47hz-37khz
90db

Polk M20 Floor
6.5 Mid 1.75 tweeter
55hz-24khz
89db

DT ProCenter 1000
2 4.5" mids, 2 4.5" radiators and a 1" tweeter
47hz-30khz

Polk RM8 Center
2 2.5" mids and a 1.75" tweeter
95hz-24khz

Klipsch 10" 420W Sub
28-120hz

Klipsch 12" 650w Sub
24-120hz

Polk PSW10
100 watts (doh!)
35hz-200hz
(Man, this sucks compared to the others)

DT ProSub 1000 10" 300w
18hz-150hz

From the above specs, all upgrades will be much better. Hey Teachsac, do you think the Klipsch 12" is too much for the other speakers? I guess Im thinking more in terms of car audio, but Im more familiar with it.

Onkyo 605 will be putting out 90w's to the L/C/R

I've heard the Def Tech's and I love them. As for the Onkyo, I don't see what you will improve upon by changing that out. I have an 805, and the only thing different is a little more power and maybe some more inputs. You already have more power than you need to drive ant of your speaker choices.

Thanks for the input! I've been reading and it does appear the DT speakers are great bang for the buck.

Two other sources for subs you might want to consider:

Elemental Designs

SVSound - Home

Ive seen some great recommendations for SVS too. I guess itll all depend on whether I opt for a BBuy no interest deal when I buy the sub or not.

Im excited now, just have to wait a month :(

eD's A2-300 is about the best bang for the buck you are going to find at that price level and it's well recommended. You will pay $100 less than the Sub-12 and get a better sub to boot. For home theater, you simply cannot sacrifice performance for convenience.

Plus, it's American made in Iowa and the company would be glad to take your call and discuss your specific needs. That's customer service.

Crap, those subs go low at 18hz! For that price, I could go with the A3-300.

Thanks for the direction. Whats the input on the other speakers?

The other speakers?

The A3-300 has 100 more watts and the newer class driver to deliver quality through its range at the higher wattage levels. If you have a larger room, the A3 might be a better idea than the A2 but the A2 is tough to beat until you spend twice the money.

SVS subs are also made in the USA, Ohio, and have made a name for themselves but you typically are looking to spend more money to reap the rewards of an SVS sub. The cylinder subs are great for HT and outperform other subs for twice the price. The PB ultra box subs are superior in performance for both HT and audio but run above $1K in price.

I will say that the Sub-12 is probably the best sub BestBuy sells but buy it on a sale weekend and with a 12% off Rewards Member coupon and then ask the rep to stack the 10% coupon on top of that. If you get the right rep and get friendly, they will sometimes stack coupons for you!

Not sure about the surrounds from eD, I just know about them for subs. Def Techs are great if you can get a good price on them which is not always easy at Best Buy.

Cool. I think Ill have plenty of time to hash out the subs, but I dont think I can go wrong with the 2-3 choices I now have. Im going to stick with the DT surrounds :)
