My 211 DVR function is activated

Just placed my order for the Western Digital 500 GB My Book Essential 2.0 - USB 2.0 External Hard Drive WDH1U5000N. :) From what I have read this EHD seems very reliable. Is anyone using this model now and having sleep mode issues ?

I have the same drive hooked up to my 211. It works fine.

Well, so far, my EHD has gone missing at the morning reboot 6 days and was found only once. I'm assuming that others are not seeing this behavior on their integrated EHD enclosures as I seem to be the only one reporting problems.

My new EHD should be here tonight, so I'll see how the next week goes. It will also be interesting to see if I can move recordings from my current drive to the new drive using my Mac.

I tried to hook up a 1tb Fantom hdd from buy.com, it is a western digital green drive inside, and it gave me the error that it doesn't fit in the 50 to 750gb size limit. Anyone, get a 1tb drive to work with this? I am currently using a 400gb elements drive but will probably replace it withe 640gb mybook that is going to be onsale from Staples for $69 on Black Friday.

I think you mentioned some time before that you can record one channel and watch some other channel at the same time. I have a Vip211k receiver which I converted into a DVR with EHD. Today I was trying to record a program and watch another channel, then it gave me a mesg. saying do you want to record or continue watch the other channel ? At that time my recording stopped If I chose to watch the other channel.

I think vip211k is a single tuner receiver but is there a way we can do this ?? record one and watch one simultaneously. Nothing about OTA, its got a different tuner.

thanks

I noticed while plugging in my ehd and activating dvr that there is an ethernet port on the back. Is this port active? Does it allow stuff like dish on demand? If not, what is it for?

Mine went missing the other day. It's a Maxtor 120gig drive from my old 721 in a CoolerMaster enclosure. Message to reboot but decided to just turn off the drive and the 211. Turned the drive back on and the next morning all was fine again. I would guess that if I had not turned the drive off and on again it wouldn't have been cured on the nightly reboot.

An alternate to phone land line. On-demand not there yet.

I have two 211 receivers and have activated DVR. I am using a 500 GB SimpleTech Signature mini which doesn't require external power and was able to use it successfully with one of the receivers. The thing that confuses me is when I connect the same EHD to the other receiver, it knows that a EHD is connected and checks for compatibility and then it gives me this Unknown Error please try another USB 2.0 compatible EHD. Does anyone know why this is happening?

You'll be the first one - don't forget to post your experience.

[Actually, I'm using Search before ask, many times ppl already answered my questions.]

my experience.........

My WD 500 gb was delivered today........plugged it in around 5:00 got the 499 screen to call the number to activate. I called tech support instead......

CSR #1 Laura.....after spending 30 minutes on the phone and several holds she comes back to tell me......this feature is not available on the 211.....ya sure I know better (click the phone)

CSR #2......nameless but american.......another 30 minutes with this guy and several holds still nothing happening........i have the 499 message on the screen to take the hit but nothing happened....asked to talk to supervisor.....put on hold for another 10 minutes and listened to music.....clicked phone

CSR #3.....nameless but american.....(frustration setting in on my part now.....need a second brew) he goes thru the spiel of you need a hard drive between x gb and x gb......ya i know that....no flash drives.....yep none.....no dual drives....none of those either buddy. After he sends an electronic hit i get the next screen....yippee.....drive is formatting.....he stays on the phone with me thru the whole process and downloading of the program guide.....finally it WORKS.

Total time from plug in of EHD to activation.......1 hour and 42 minutes.....and 2 brews.........

PS......I was charged for 3 activations........i told the last CSR to remove 2 of them.........I will be watching my bill

Yes, everyone who has had to contact Dish multiple times to activate the 211 DVR feature should check on this. And once they say it's off, check again! It took an e-mail to Dish to finally get it cleared off my account, but not before the November cycle hit. I see the credit as activity since my last bill, but my bill isn't scheduled to be paid for another week or two. I'll see what happens then.

No joy with using my Mac. It recognizes the partitions as Linux partitions, but they won't mount (even after I spent time with my Unix guru on the phone). I punted and used a Linux CD distro on my HP d325 instead. It recognized everything right off the bat. However, it's slow going, copying roughly 15 MB/sec (should be more like 45-60!) between the 500 GB drive I want to use on my 211 and the new LaCie 1 TB drive for the 622. It estimates 8h30m  to copy the contents of the old drive to the new drive. So, I'll let it crank while I hit the sack!

Just checked my bill this morning.........I was billed for 4 activations and credited for 2........I still have another credit due. Calling Dish to get this straightened out.

I had checked my online account the other day and I noticed that I had gotten charged 3 times for the DVR fee. I had to call customer service and have it removed.

Unbelieveable....

As an earlier poster said.......if you activate your DVR.........CHECK YOUR BILLING..
