Digital Navigator cfl conversion

The hardware could be perfect, perhaps the download of the software did not go well. Seeing how hundreds of thousands of other customers now have the same software and are not reporting in masse the problem you describe it leads me to beleive it is a problem with your unit, and not a "mass issue"

You've never downloaded a piece of software from the web only to have it install corrupted?

I have had 0 problems with the recording of shows, I have as of this count 24 shows in my "series manager" and they record flawlessly.

I have many other problems and complaints about this software but its "core functions" seem to work just fine.

I dont like in the guide before I could hit "A" to jump between 100 channels at a time, now it takes me to some stupid menu interface. Just a few simple things that I had become accustomed to which made navigating the software easy for me, now I find myself hitting the "old" buttons and it doing not what I intend because they have changed.

Well, that could be a possibility. So, why couldn't the head end just redownload the package to my system, rather than me having to turn in the unit and lose all my recordings, etc.?

I think it is possible, Im not sure exactly the sequence (I knew it at one point) but you can "force" the box to re download its OS. Perhaps someone here will know it, I will try to find out for you as soon as I can. (It worked with Passport) I am not sure though with this new software so I'll need to get back with you :)

Its of course possible for the headend to iniate the re download, but what I am talking about is doing it right at the box, sort of like the sequence to get into the diagnostic menu. Itd be dam near impossible to get the headend to do it ;)

We moved from Gainesville down to Orlando a couple of months ago and had to drop our DishHD service due to apartment complex regulations. Went with BrightHouse service with the 3800HDC DVR. Boy, this this sucks. I so wish I could go back. What's up with the stupid fast forward thing that if you hit play, it goes back 15-20 seconds before you hit it? I have to purposely wait a couple of seconds to hit play for it to start where I want to?
The recording thing hasn't worked reliably for me either. Some shows are hit/miss on when it records them, especially shows on BBCA that are rebroadcasted during a 24 hour period.

The HD sucks, compared to Dish. Compression out the wazuu (sp?). Also, I can't get it to work with my TV, as it won't send out a 720p signal via HDMI. *sigh*. I have to use the component input. Uggh.

Does anybody else notice that every time you hit play/pause it reconnects to the receiver when using the digital audio output? No wonder it is so slow.

I think the "official" answer is, initial software releases always have problems. Don't worry. Our next update will fix 'nearly everything.' Meanwhile, enjoy how pretty it is...so much prettier than Passport.

Pretty doesn't mean jack if it's not functional. Why do so many companies ignore this fact?

I to get annoyed by the "go back" feature of 10seconds or so.

But there are more and more things I like since the change the few I used to get pissed off about are starting to seem less important.

My annoyance has diminished as I learn the "new way," but only the smallest degree. There are many things that just seem stupid...incomprehensible as to why it was done that way.

(1) As you are playing back a DVR'ed show, press the PLAY -arrow button. Now explain why a PLAY button should do that. (2) Also, try to see how far you are through a playback without serious interruption of the show. (3) Find a good section you want to show your wife in a playback and try to easily return to that spot a day later after having watched the whole thing. (4) Explain why delete-a-recording sometimes means press A and sometimes means press SEL.

No, on the whole, I would absolutely prefer the Passport software to this.

I too got real confused with the change of commands, and just like you as I learn them it gets less annoying.

If I had to choose between the two, I would choose this one. and That is because I know its capable of so much more that passport was not.

1) It annoys the hell out of me that you can no longer hit the arrow button when fast forwarding and rewinding and have it go to the next or previous 15 minute increment.

2) It annoys the hell out of me that when you are watching a TV channel..... 99% of the time if you try to go back and rewind to something from a few minutes ago ........ you find out that the hard drive was NOT recording the program you are watching and you CANNOT rewind back ..........what kind of garbage is that??? What is the purpose of having a DVR if you CANNOT rewind the programs you are watching live without recording every program you watch????

3) It annoys the hell out of me that BEFORE when you hit play during LIVE TV the bar would pop up that showed you what you were watching and how many minutes into the show it was.

4) It annoys the hell out of me that when you are now watching a recorded program and hit play it plays slower with no sound........BEFORE when you hit play during a recorded show......the info banner would pop up and also tell you how long into the show you were.

ALL 4 DVR's in my house have this problem since the new software download. Makes me seriously thing about getting DirectTV or DISH!!!!!!!! Anybody have any recommendations on which is better?????

I have the 8300hd and I don't have these problems. To forward 15 min. you have to hold the arrow key down. I have no issue rewinding live programs. The guide is slow.

I have the 8300hd as well ........... and ever since BHN downloaded their new software onto it......... that feature has been LOST along with all the other things I listed above.

Enjoy it, because as soon as you get the new software downloaded onto your box, you will have the same CRAP features that myself and everybody else are STUCK with!

Chris, I know ctkb is thoroughly exercised over this, but please forward his items to the software people. They ARE valid. His 2,3, and 4 are my annoyances too.

One more thing that annoys the hell out of me...........

Say you leave channel 28 on and turn your TV OFF but leave the HDDVR on........... BEFORE....... when you turned the TV back on........you had the previous 45 minutes that you could go back and watch what was on while the TV was off........ NOW, just turning the TV off makes the HD DVR stop recording and when you turn the TV back on.......... there is NOTHING to rewind back and watch like you would have BEFORE.

Man I never noticed that. How in the world does the STB even know if the TV is on or not. I sure thought the box was laying down the two tuners output onto the HD at all times, just deleting the previous show when a show change occurred.

That is insanely stupid. The purpose of a DVR is to RECORD! It shouldn't care if something is being viewed at that moment or not. Recording and viewing are two different functions. Geesh.
