I disagree. Universal shows quite a bit of well known tv show content from their other family of channels. Throw in the movies, and the two are nothing alike in what they offered. Just my opinion

Universal HD is nice I just wish they didnt have commercials during movies, and I was just making a joke.

Ahh, ok. Got ya. Yeah, thats the only reason I have the extra add on package with D* right now. We got to catch up on all of the Jerico reruns, and got me caught up on BSG also.

Honestly, I think voom would do well to follow that model to an extent, with their own programming of course. Perhaps cut out some of the commercials.

I was more on the I hate Dish for cutting off Voom, but Voom should have just let Dish have the 5 channels and we wouldnt have this long thread right now.

Amazing how blind Voom haters are. Smithsonian is a spectacular success but Voom was a failure.

The five most popular Voom channels would be on RIGHT NOW is Voom management would have allowed Dish to keep just them. No changes, no difference but they would be there.

Voom was and will be the best thing Dish ever had.

I agree with you 100 percent.

I think Voom should have played it smart.
I guess what baffles me is that some people on this forum just dont get it.

We all had 15 24HR true HD channels (Some better than others)
Why in the world would folks bash that?

We will never see that kind of tv again.
Its truly a shame.

What we are left with is the same old boring stuff every other provider has.

Boring!!!

Thank you both for some far more reasonable posts, acknowledging the failures of Voom management both in refusing to split up the package and in inferior programming on some channels.

Had Monsters and Rave been offered separately, I suspect both would be on Dish and DirecTV and maybe Fios. Maybe even on cable.

Much of the Kung Fu, Filmfest, and World Cinema/HD Movies whould have a happy home on IFC and AMC. Utlra HD would have given WE HD a good head start. The stuff on Gallery, Treasure, Equator, and manybe Gameplay could have made a great "Voom Living" type channel. Rush and World Sport could have gone for a great "Voom Sports"* (Sorry, but I can't see Family Room and Animania competing with ABC Family, Nick, and Disney). And as Scott pointed out in the podcast, HD News had literally dozens of viewers.

I never bashed having 24/7 HD channels. I bash the management for trying to maintain 15 24/7 HD channels when they only have programming to support 5 or so channels.

However, one thing I do have to pick with you, lern: You complain about people bashing Voom, but have no problem bashing our mainsteam choices as boring. We all deserve what we want. No ones choices should be inferior to others. But majority does have to rule, and that's one of the reasons Voom had to go.

* Another comment on the way Voom handled sports: Another thing that would have benefited them is if they expanded their horizons. We all loved the Olympics. But all they could manage covering is Extreme Sports, Soccer, and Canadian football. How about track? Or Curling? Or fencing? Skiing? Water Polo?

No Voom failed. Voom management was the reason it failed.

You just like to bash Voom for your own amusement...this comment can easily be stricken from the record with virtually no loss to the topic at hand what-so-ever. :D

However, ignoriing all the 'haters'...the one thing most people can agree on is that the Voom concept was sound, but was none-the-less, poorly executed.

Too many channels, to little content. Period. If there is one thing that the pro and anti Voom constituency have agreed on here, thats it. Less channels with more content per channel could only have been a good thing if Voom was to stick it out for the long haul. But as for the haters? Who cares...they will continue to bash Voom for sport wherever there are those who choose to discuss it, and add no value to any conversation what-so-ever other that pure invectives of hate and bile. :D

Either way, that content is still out there floating around in the ether. Voom may yet rise again, but certainly not in any programming format that any of us is familiar with at this time.

I have to aggree. Everyone should have choices. You see that choice of 15HD channels was taken away in one swoop.

I did not like the way dish handled it. People should start to notice a pattern here with dish.

Do I feel that Voom is error free here? No. They should have done everything possible to stay afloat.

Which leads me to believe that maybe the thought it was better for them to close shop in order to win this lawsuit.

Myself included, would have been just as happy with a leaner version of Voom rather than no Voom.

Im grateful to have enjoyed it and will miss it terribly.

I wonder where the MonstersHD content will go? They did have some good stuff on there especially towards the end. I would love for them to keep that channel or create another movie channel where you could get horror and kungfu or however they want to do it. They can make it like IFC because IFC only has commercials before and after the movies which is ok with me.

According to Scott the Voom content will be archived. Possibly wont see the light of day for some time.

How does going out of business help their lawsuit? If anything, I imagine their are now disgruntled employees who might be willing to testify for Dish as to how Voom forced Charlie's hand.

And you don't seem to get my point. You only care about your choices to the point of calling my choices boring. I don't have any problem with you calling my choices boring, but for someone who complains about people picking on Voom, it seems to be a double standard. Also, did you notice my "However" point after I said everyone deserves choices?

I'll miss Equator. That's about it.

I do however, thank you for ascribing blame to Voom. If Voom was a little more flexible, this thread would have 2000 less posts as everyone's precious Monsters and Rave would be on. Dish could have handled it better, but I do not disagree with his decision.

LOL- thats the funniest thing I've read all week. Your complaining about others bashing your mainstream channel interests??? Good stuff:D

More complaining about the hypocrisy of bashing one set of channels and endlessly complaining about others bashing your favorite channels.

Ok- You will very rarely if ever see me in other threads bashing someone elses favorite channels. I don't have the time for crap like that. For example I don't post comments in Comedy Central threads. I could care less about that channel but still I don't feel the need to make others angry.

Wow, what a backhanded compliment. The sick thing is that you actual mean it, you are being sincere.

Dish has been stomped out by DirecTV, Uverse, FIOS, and others, so they are pretty down and out, but saying VOOM is the best thing that ever happened to Dish is a slap in the face.

Voom's days were over long ago. They shot themselves in the foot even moreso in 2007. Sure, they were good years ago, before other HD channels existed, but they died out at least by late 2007. Don't get me wrong, I loved Monsters HD before it turned for the worse, but what about the other dozen channels? They were crap as far back as I remember. Sure, there was the occasional good programming (even channels like Ovation have had their day in the sun), but they should have consolidated down to about three channels. 10-15 channels in today's environment of that stuff would be insane.

Good riddance to them for being so hard headed and not allowing Dish, or other carriers for that matter, to offer only five of the channels.

Excellent Point! Personally, I really don't like anything related to Star Trek or Star Wars, but I certainly don't go out of my to incite others who may actually enjoy this stuff...that's how wars are started. Anyway, I noticed a Star Trek cast member recently passed-away. Perhaps some of the VOOM-haters also hate Star Trek and would like to voice their pleasure at her passing.:no

And yet E* is the only major provider to offer an HD only option ..u would think the VOOM people would eat that all up
