Gary Lee Robbins (Neil Ardman) and Luken have completely ruined Equity Media Holdings by taking the biggest asset they have RTN and running away from Equity.

Equity will sue Luken and Neil and will win. Dont point your dish at AMC 9 and dont watch RTN anymore, I am keeping my dish on WNGS and supporting the real company which is Equity!

Don't help GAS (Gary / Neil) either! He didn't tell us about the new RTN satellite because he wanted to give us the inside scoop but because Luken knows they need every viewer they can get right now. They just got a new name for the webite and it seems they are trying everything they can do to stab Equity in the back. And by the way dont expect customized linups and local sports / news / weather or high powered dvb-s2 transponders from luken as they are running this new company from their garage.

I don't know enough about this to vote on it.

The article says:

Luken, a one-time Equity executive and still its largest single shareholder, purchased RTN from Equity last June for $25 million.

When you say,

{Luken} have completely ruined Equity Media Holdings by taking the biggest asset they have RTN and running away from Equity.

RTN was bought by Luken for $25M. So, is it not his for the taking? Besides, since Luken is the largest shareholder of Equity, do you suppose such an action would be taken lightly?

I don't have a side in this. Mainly because I don't understand it. If Luken was paying for uplink and Equity wasn't passing the money on to the uplink provider, I don't blame him for splitting. Why pay somebody else for something you can do yourself? Especially when the money is being put out to pay bills and they aren't getting paid...

Somebody put this in terms I can understand wouldja?

I'm stayin' outta this too. The way I see it is I finally got RetroJams back, (although for how long who knows?) and there's still enough of those stations on G18, showing old TV shows to suit me!

Why not call into Unreliable sources and get Gary to explain it :D

Didn't some guy named Lincoln say " A house divided against itself cannot stand".

You would think the common "enemy" to Equity/Lukin would be the BIG providers who want the entire medium for themselves with absolutely No competion. Too bad for all the small broadcasters that will have to deal somehow with the fallout. And to all the rural folks who will have nothing except pizza pans for choices.

When the dust settles, I predict a few less independant choices in the marketplace, and more power to the big guys to call the shots.

I don't know what's going on and I don't think you do either i4tas...???
But, if you want a vote, I'm voting for the programming, which I extremely enjoy, and apparently it's RTN and Luken that has it. So, my vote is for Luken/Neil. If Equity had the programming, I would vote for them, but they don't. I'll still watch WNGS and any other Equity channel, when they have something I'll watch showing. It's my understanding that Equity had the option to buy RTN back and didn't come up with the money? So I guess you think that Luken should give it back or join Equity and go down with them...?

Like I said, I don't know what's really going on, but I'll stay with the programming for now.

Here are my thoughts...

to the casual TV viewer, they have no clue what is going on. Maybe they turned on their digital TV to a subchannel and saw the "red screen of death"...later that day they got their RTN back. So they're happy and couldnt care who's right or wrong. All they care is they got RTN back

And by the way dont expect customized linups and local sports / news / weather or high powered dvb-s2 transponders from luken as they are running this new company from their garage.
I remember tuning into Equity 4+ years ago to see them basically running on a shoestring. They had just scooped up a few stations and lost the Ion (Pax at the time) affiliate on 3 or 4 stations so they were running with a new moniker called "lick tv" (have some id cards on DVD for them) showing as much pro wrestling, boxing, kick boxing etc they could show at night. During the day it was mainly paid programs. If you're bored do a search in the FTA area for the word "lick" and you'll find threads that I started that basically showed Equity changing stuff around weekly. They finally got it settled down and turned it into a neat little setup

But I guess for us the FTA viewers, I could care less who is at fault. Don't get me wrong. I'm mad that we went from 10-12 RTN affiliates to two but I guess answer yourself this....what would happen if Equity got taken down completely? (after all they do owe 1/2 million bucks to Intelsat for transponder space). Would you be happy if 30+ stations just go **poof** leaving us on G10 with Research Network, UWTV, those California learning channels and maybe KTWO? I sure as hell don't.

So right now I'm going to enjoy the FREE (remember that word...FREE) programming that is out there no matter where it is. Sure Equity could scramble the signal but I remember when I talked to Gary (Neal) last spring he assured me they would stay FTA because he KNEW we were watching it. How many channels outside of Religious channels want the public to know we're watching them? Not a lot.

So lets not complain on who did what and who stabbed whom in the back. Lets enjoy the programming we have to watch now...because it may not be there tomorrow ;)

I agree and I'd like to say Thank You to anyone who lets me watch their network for free.

I hope things work out well for everyone involved.

I don't know if Luken is responsible for what happened to Equity or not, but to anyone who's been paying attention the handwriting has been on the wall for quite some time now. That is Equity has been slowly but surely going down the tubes financially. I'd say it's pretty obvious their days are numbered and frankly I'm surprised they lasted this long. Perhaps at least this way RTN can survive on it's own or at least stand a chance of doing so without having Equity pull RTN under along with themselves. If Luken hadn't have bought RTN from them the bankruptcy courts would have sold it off to the highest bidder and who knows whom that would have been and what they might have done with it.

The broadcasting world is going through some strange times, who knows what will be what, and who will be on top, 10 years from now? Or even 1 year from now.

who knew

I always thought we'd lose the stations to scrambling rather than mismanagement.
Or that Ergen would find a way to gobble them up and shut them down. We can't have people watching tv without paying, can we?

Well said Iceberg!!

I hope both companies survive and as you said "Lets enjoy the programming we have to watch now...because it may not be there tomorrow".

no vote:

I might have an -opinion- about hiding assets, as a company slides down the slippery slope.
But, on the other hand, you can't exactly sell off the part that's bleeding money to raise funds, now can you? -

But, -voting- on who's at fault without all the facts?
That's just irresponsible! -

My side: I'm just here for the good TV and the interesting technical discussions. - :up
. . . and maybe 'cause it drives Dave 'n Charlie crazy! - :D
