How desperate is the government for Barry Bonds??!!

Ok...let me put it to you this way. IN MY OPINION, that is TOO much of a "black and white" approach. When it comes to baseball....is it helping you see the ball better? NO! Is it gonna help you run the bases better? NO! Is it gonna help you hit for better average? NO! Will you throw MORE strikes ? NO! Will you be able to win more games just by taking them ? NO!! It is NOT gonna make you a better baseball player....STRONGER yes....better NO!!

Better?

The first part of this paragraph, we've all already taken as obvious fact.

Like I said earlier, there is a set skill needed to make it to the Majors. However, if you add steroids to a player, they now become a stronger major league player (that we agree on). Stronger players produce more home runs. Most would agree that a spike in statistics would mean "better" too....

And yet the same factors that you pointed out (small parks, bad pitching, etc.), still exist but did not help hitters at all in 2008. Home runs are way way down. I guess those factors were minor compared to the steroids.

Sandra

MY argument to YOUR statement was that Steriods was NOT the only factor to breaking the home run records...unless of course you making the statement that ALL that hit over 35 home runs was on steroids.....

Have you ever played in a 162 game season? He did not just stand on first base he was in the out field running and diving!! Also stealing bases. So yes that is what i am saying! Why do you think the old timers were hooked on greenies and booze and coke. To help relieve pain!

So if steroids were taken for the sole purpose of physical recovery, why didn't they use controlled pain killers that were LEGAL instead? Clearly there has to be another advantage to steroids too, right?

YOU SAID it makes you better player period. And when it comes to baseball...it DOES NOT. Hitting alot of home runs DOES NOT MAKE YOU a better baseball player.

Pain killers and steriods are comparing apples and oranges.

My head is spinning.

Salsa,

Do you think Bonds took steroids?
Do you think steroids enable players to hit HRs in greater numbers than if they were not taking steroids?

So why didn't the 'other factors' keep home runs from falling so far in 2008? Perhaps because they were not that big a factor?

Let me break it down for you. Like I said, a skill set is required to make it as a professional. 'Roids don't improve hand-eye coordination, blah blah blah....

Here's an example on how key stats can stay the same or improve before and after roids........

Before:

.300 hitter
150 RBI
25 HR

After....

.300 hitter
200 RBI
50 HR

Sure the .300 batter still hits for average both before and after 'Roids, but now he's able to hit those warning track pop-up outs for HR's. This leads to more runs batted in, runs scored and home run totals. How is this not "better"???

I mentioned this before....but it was obviously ignored!

Greenies, a nickname coined by ballplayers because of the color of the pills, were introduced to the game in the 1940s. These amphetamines speed up the heart rate and have been proven to fight fatigue, increase alertness and sharpen reaction time. Athletes have used them to challenge the limits of endurance — and mask the accompanying pain.

Baseball and amphetimines

And oh yeah, this is not a BLOG, this was a report done by the Palm Beach Post.

My head is spinning.

Salsa,

Do you think Bonds took steroids? YES...never denied that!
Do you think steroids enable players to hit HRs in greater numbers than if they were not taking steroids? YES...but ONLY players that were ALREADY HOME RUN HITTERS AND HAD HOME RUN potential

Again, 'roids do not make you home run hitters and home runs are NOT the reason baseball players take them...they wanna play longer for monetary reasons. "Better/healthier" body, longer they play...the more money they make.
You DO NOT NEED to be big and strong to be a good baseball player.

OK, you're now admitting players taking steroids contributed to the power surge in MLB. <sitting on edge of seat>, what was another reason??

No....SANDRA made that point....I stated that the watered down pitching, new tightly wound/made balls and short porches ALSO contributed to the home run records.

LMAO!! I see you LIKE the little  quite a bit now....LOL! I guess you now longer think this is for 12 year olds.....LOL!!!!!!

Your attack was like a 12 year old. Care to address the post, or just the poster?

Why were home runs down so much in 2008 even with diluted pitching, tight baseballs, and small parks?
