That movie is one of the worst looking films I've seen in a long time. The SD is garbage, and the HD transfer is about SD quality. I guess the 3-D maybe had something to do with it.

Dang! Aliens was Encore tonight, in HD! Not pillarboxed, but not OAR either. Catching some of it now and it looks pretty darn good! Checking to see when it's on again....isn't on again this month on Encore, Starz or Starz Edge...

The part I watched last night looked like 1.85:1...definitely wasn't 2.20:1 or 2.35:1, so it wasn't OAR, but it still looked a whole lot better than the 4:3 pillarbox they've been showing...and it's not again this month.

Hopefully it'll be on again sometime in March...

I have trouble sleeping through the night, so I always end up on the couch and watching the tube. This movie (I recorded) was SO GOOD, I watched it twice...in a row last night. Went back to bed at 5am. One of the best, albeit low key, acting jobs Bacon has ever done.
