I am a new Direct Tv user and was wondering if there was a way to block the adult channels from showing up in the guide. I have already used the parental lock, and blocked those channels....but they are still showing up in the guide. Is there a way to keep them from even showing up in the guide.

thanks

create a favorites list and block any channel you want from not showing up in the guide

sherrlon,
As thetech said, make a custom favorite guide up and do not add the channels you want blocked into the guide, then they will not show on the guide

Going through all the channels to create your favorites list is a royal PITA. I wish DTV let us setup favorites lists on the website and then beamed the list to the receiver. A web page with 500 channels on a single page with checkboxes would be much easier than seeing 5 channels at a time.

Hi folks. I'm completely new to DirecTV, and awaiting a Monday install, so I'm utterly clueless but...

My cable receiver/dvr allows me to block the display of all adult titles and content. The channel will still be present, but not the name, and the description will simply say "Adult". It is set to require a password to see the title and/or access the content. Is this also possible with DirecTV?

Thanks!

edit to add: this feature works from one preference set point, and does not require doing it for each and every channel.

What's wrong with his idea? If we can program our DVRs from a website it seems very doable. May be unneeded but may be useful for some.
I like the way DISH does channel listings with a combination of white and black listing but I guess that is a stupid idea too. :(

This IS a good idea, except that the idea has NOT been implemented yet ...

I like the idea ...

Have you tried using the "Channels I get " function yet, thats a good start, edit from there.

This function DOES work now.
I used it for a friend just last week.

This does not work for me. "Channels I Get" lists a bunch of stuff I don't get such as all the Sports Pack channels which I do not subscribe to and various Showtime channels. I am on current NR.

Hmmm, thats interesting, she got a new R22 and when I went to show here how to edit the channels, I tried it and it seemed to work fine this time .... maybe they are still working on it and the R22 is done ... ?

Seems like it added all the ppv's too. Like I said a black list + white list combination makes this so much easier. With DISH you can block any channel you NEVER want to see (black list). This way when you go to make your favorites (white list) you don't have to weed through the shopping, foreign, ppv or any thing else that is just taking up space.

Tivo does it this way too and it is a very easy and simple solution for the user. It also streamlines searchs.

But working with an HR2x isn't there an adult channel block that totally eliminates the specifically adult channels from the guide so it's like they don't exist?

Yes.
That is the big difference. D* only has a way to hide Adult. Hiding individual channels would be so much more flexible.

One thing I didn't see specifically spelled out, is that once you have set up a favorites list you must make that list the one that is displayed when the guide is selected.

After you select your favorite channels(There is a tab on the top right where you can name it what you want),then move the highlight to the left twice, then onto the list name you just created, then hit select.

Then select exit, and you're good to go.

Dslate,
You sure are making a big deal out of something that takes about 5 minutes to set up .....
???
Did you disagree with my last post?

I think there are a lot of ideas and or sugestions posted throughout the forums; some good some bad. I am new to D*; no regrets but believe it or not E* does some things right. If D* ever did add this feature, no one will force you to use it.
There are a lot of post out there you are ignoring, so you are the one "making a big deal" instead of browsing on by.
