Remote Reaction SOOO Slow!

70% is Great strength. E* scale is different then D*. E* 70 now is about Equal to 105 of the scale the used to use. 50 and 60% are the average numbers for E* signal.
They dropped the scale down in a software release over a year ago.
Rain fade is no different. I'd like to see D* use a 24x19 inch dish for their service. But that will never happen since KA satellites are the most Prone to rain fade from the Narrow signal band.
My friend down the street who has D* with one of the newer dishes keeps cable as a back up because he has to much rain fade.
But he does say its better then the old dish,

Your friend needs to get a tech out to relign the dish.

I have the slimline and a Dish super side by side.

I honestly get LESS rain fade on the slimline than with Dish these days. That said it is not an issue with either 99.9% of the time. I can not imagine anyone needing cable as backup for this issue alone

My 1000.4 was better then the Slimline as far as rain fade.

To the point that you needed cable backup? And to the point that THAT was so much better than it used to be on D*? It has never been an issue with either for me.
That is all I am saying. I am calling BS on his comment. Or are we in the WZ yet?:p

Cable back up. Hell No . If anything Satellite back up!
The Slimline is way better then the Phase III as far as Rain fade. But it should be for as large as it is.

I too have noticed considerable lag with my HR21 receiver over the past month. I noticed that there was a firmware update at the end of April. This also coincides with the lag problems I've been seeing with the receiver. The last firmware update is to blame in my opinion.

Ditto.

Can't believe nobody has mentioned (or noticed) this yet - the "new", worst delay was brought on by the "scoreguide" feature on the various sports channels. Doing anything with the remote when dialed into a sports channel is excruciatingly slow. I'm not noticing any undue delay on any of the non-sports channels, they all seem to be the same way they've been for years.

They need to give us a way to turn this feature OFF, if they can't fix the performance hit it causes.

It's not just the sports channels with scoreguide for me. When it decides to slow down it is slow no matter what I am doing.

How did we go from remote to rain fade?
Anyway, my hd dvr has slowed too in the last few days-weeks, or so.
I too suspect an update issue.

remote response was the straw that broke the camels back for me. I wanted to throw it out the window. Especially with CE firmware. One time is was so slow on the HR21-100 that you could not punch in channel numbers. It timed out before you could press it 2 digits.

The new Ka band signal is more susceptable to rainfade. The old Phase III dish was for Ku band. In that respect rainfade and peaking the dish was less of an issue. Does the bigger dish make Ku band better than the old phase III? probably. But if you are an HD guy watching the Ka band stuff your picture is much less reliable than it used to be.

This is true.
I know some of the Diehards don't think so ,But KA is a Narrow signal, and is easily interupted by storms.
Remember Guys , These satellites were built for High Speed internet originally.

I have said it before, but I rarely get rainfaid with the slimline (or my E* system for that matter), HD or SD channels. All I can tell you is what I see on my systems. Others may have different experiences.

I can say that if D* goes out, for me, E* is out as well.

,
Thats because the Slimline is big.
Try Using a Phase III dish with a Slimline 3 LNB. And you will see what we mean. It not reliable at all in weather.
Remember 99,101,103 is a smaller space to cover then the 101,110,and 119 that the Phase III covers with no problem.;)
the 1000.2 and 4 are only 19x24 but cover much grater span between satellite locations
D* needs a 24x32 dish because of the narrow band that KA puts out.

I understand it is a big dish, and yes that helps. I am just saying that , for whatever reason, I do not get much rain fade. Not as much as I have heard some claim to get.

Why would someone use a phase III with a slimline LNB? It is not really designed for that. So not suprised at the rain fade in that instance

Because its a smaller dish, But yes its not designed for KA use because its to small for the KA narrow band.
And people including myself have tryed this set up. It worked good untill it got cloudy outside.:).
I even Tryed it on my 1000.4 Ha Ha! and People here said it wouldn't work, they were half right. If you have enough D* parts laying around ,and nothing better to do, Any Dish will work. Just not the LNB's.
This was better then Phase III but still not really big enough for a decent everyday signal.

Wouldnt your focus points be off with a different dish? That is my point here. I dont doubt it will work, but people should not use an experiment like that to judge rain fade. If I am understanding your post correctly.

Or is it just that the old phase III was bad even with the original LNB?

I am not disputing that D* needs to use the larger slimline to get comparable tolerances on their signal.
I just know that right now, with the current, correct setup, neither that I can tell has an advantage with rain fade. It is not much, again in my experience only, with either.

.
It was to avoid Buying a Slimline for my house in NY. When saw the SL3 LNB works with the Phase III , I thought I could use 1 of my 5 dishes, Instead of buying another. But they didn't work right.

back to the slow remote...

going back to track... Try doing this in your remotes:
"press mute and select at the same time until the light on the remote blinks twice, key in 963 and channel-down."

I don't know what it does exactly, but after doing this, my system felt so much responsive. (HR21 via RF).
