Help for a Newbie

I would like to add a EHD to my 722k. Dish recommends the Western Digital DVR Expander (500 GB).

I can get this drive from Amazon for $99.99 plus $8.97 shipping - total of $108.96.

Amazon has a WD Mybook Essentials 750 GB for $89.99 and free shipping.

Is the DVR Expander, with less capacity, worth the extra money?

Is the WD Mybook Essentials a good drive or do you have other recommendations?

Thanks for your help.

Hi

Amazon has 1 TB drives for $99.95 both LaCie (I have two of these connected to my computer and have had no problems over a number of years) and Iomega.

They have a 500 GB drive for 74.95

I have a 612, will a 1 TB harddrive work? Also, I notice that 1.5 TB harddrives are almost as cheap, will these sizes work too?

For sure, 622/722 do accept 1.5 TB.
211 is not [yet].
If you'll test it in your 612 and tell us here, it would benefit for all members.
[Get it in that store who will give full refund in case of failure - Fry's did that for my 2 TB tests].

how many platters?

this may be answered already, and maybe i'm not looking in the right place, but how can you tell how many platters an EHD has?

Not platters, but disks - separate devices inside of the enclosure. Number of platters inside of each disk is irrelevant for EHD PURPOSE ! Two posts above explained it for you.

Ask manufacturer or read tech specs of the device.
