Report: Michigan Players Allege NCAA Violations

After playing college football (small time) and working in college football (big time), this story just seems like a "duh" moment. College football is basically a full-time job with classes scattered in-between, even though some of it is 'voluntary'. Sounds like Michigan players just don't like the coach, and they know this is a way to get to him.

Sounding more and more like that everyday. Still don't like the idea of MICHIGAN breaking any rules though. Rodriguez will be fired if this gets out of hand.

They don't need to base it on anything. You go 3-9 at Michigan and your job is more insecure than an assembly worker at a GM factory.

I would believe that to be very true. AD Martin is on record saying anybody caught cheating will be fired. we will see how this works out. 3-9 is not getting Coach Rod any bonus points.

AGAIN...that is fine and I agree. But all this coming out has MORE to do with him supposedly violating NCAA rules than going 3-9. You guys are now saying, "OH YEAH, he also went 3-9..."

....the thread had NOTHING to do with 3-9!

Rodriguez sued over condo project

Well, if taking a team that hasn't experienced a losing season is 40-years to a dismal 3-9 record wasn't bad enough...not to mentioned the topic of this thread...RR is now being sued over a condo project as reported by ESPN. Ugh! Get rid of this bum already!!!

Michigan head football coach Rich Rodriguez has been sued in federal court by a bank claiming he failed to pay back millions on a loan for a struggling Virginia condominium project, according to court documents.

The suit -- filed Aug. 13 in U.S. District Court in Spartanburg, S.C., and served on Rodriguez at his Ann Arbor, Mich., office last week -- says the coach owes a bank $3.9 million for defaulting on a loan to build condos near Virginia Tech's Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va.

Rodriguez told reporters the case won't hinder Michigan's preparations, while an adviser said the coach was the victim of fraud.

This has EVERYTHING to do with the 3-9 season last year. Bottom line is when you are winning and you beat Notre Dame, OSU, and in state rival MSU, I'm guessing people give you a free pass on things like this.

What pisses me off is that we had Les Miles in our back pocket and somehow someway they F-ed it up. He's a Michigan guy and would have fit in perfectly, imho.

Michigan has always been a school that was always united from boosters to board members to the AD, right down to the coach and waterboy. THAT is why they won for 3+ decades. Bo set the standard, laid the ground work and paved the way. Every coach since then has been from the same cloth as Bo, Gary Moeller and Lloyd Carr.

This guy has no freakin clue how things are done around Here. He better start winning and winning now.

Get this right or GTFO.

Take this from someone whose team didn't get our dream coach the first time around, Roy Williams, sometimes you do get 2nd chances.

Well said! I remember when we got rid of Gary Moeller after three consecutive 4-loss seasons (bring a lush served to expedite the process)...who would have thought we would look back fondly at the Moeller era after just one-season of RR.

Fire Rich Rodriguez! (OSU Site, but with accurate information)

- Most losses EVER by a Michigan football team.
- First losing season since 1967.
- First missed bowl game in 33 years, breaking the nations longest streak.
- Previously worst 7-loss season done 2 worse by Rodriguez.
- First loss to a MAC team. (previously 24-0)
- Becomes only the second head coach in 90 years to lose his career opener vs Ohio State.
- First time since 1962 that Michigan did not win 2 games in a row.
- Most attempts at fitting a square peg into a round hole. (this one is mine)

Then start a thread stating that. This thread STARTED OUT with an issue that more than likely goes on in every college program after there is a new guy running the show...guys from the old regime bitch they ain't getting playing time and transfer. The ones that are either not that good or have fewer options stay and bitch. MOST folks here have basically stated this is the nail on the coffin and THIS should run him out of out. And I say IF.....IF this is true, then there is a reason for that. The team sucked AFTER ONE SEASON where MOST of the players were NOT recruited by him.

Same thing happened at The U. Larry Coker lived a charmed life winning 34 straight games at Miami winning 1 national championship and almost winning a 2nd in a row(thank you Big 12 ref...)with players Butch Davis brought in....when ALL those guys left, he was given a couple of season to give it a try and he failed and he is gone. Coker tried to uncorporate the same philpsophy of coaching with player HE recruited and it failed miserably. Rodriguez is bring a completely different game to AA...that takes time and HIS personel...NOT Carr's.

If Michigan fans and alum wanna fire him for ONE bad year that players HE didn't recruit...fine. But the SAME THING will happen the following year.

Michigan is a proud program. If OSU had the type of season UofM had last year, I'd expect just as bad of a meltdown from Bucknut Nation.

And no offense, but the University of Miami isn't held to as high of standards as Football Schools soaked in tradition and history such as Michigan and Ohio State. Your school might tolerate a rebuild. Our schools won't put up with them.

Even though I'm a Buckeye fan, I have to agree with my fellow Buckeye Brethren and come to the defense of Michigan in their time of need. This is a complete "witch hunt" against Rich Rodriguez.

So far, Jim Tressel, Kirk Herbstreit and OSU captains, Kurt Coleman and Doug Worthington have also come to the defense of UofM. Here's a few quotes...

“What makes it difficult is how good these kids want to be,” he said. “Sometimes you have to chain the doors of the Woody Hayes [football] center, you know, to get them out of there. These kids want to be good. They want to train. They want to get their buddies in there and throw the ball around, those kinds of things.” - Jim Tressel

“I think Michigan is probably abiding by the rules,” said Coleman, a starting safety. “But, you know, to be great you have to put in more than 20 hours. That’s just the minimum. In any great program, each player is putting in more than what they’re required to. And it’s all on their own. That’s what takes a program to the next level, when guys are going above and beyond the call of duty.”

Worthington said that no matter what the coaches say — or the NCAA — players who want to get better will become workaholics. He said it was up to the upperclassmen to make sure that the younger players kept their noses to the grindstone.

“It’s hard to be a good football team giving 20 hours, but you know the rules and that’s why leaders and captains and seniors have to make sure we keep guys after and we watch more film,” the starting defensive lineman said. “Do it on our time, but make sure we know it’s nothing mandatory. But if you want to be good, it takes more than just 20 hours.”

One person in the media who really got worked up over the allegations was former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit, who called this a “witch hunt” and “insulting.” I was surprised that he spoke out against the allegations so strongly, but I guess Herbstreit has immense respect for Rich Rodriguez and his former rival, Michigan Wolverines.

REALLY??!! LMAO!!

Wait.....REALLY??!!

How many National Championsips has Michigan won since 1948......ONE...and it was split with Nebraska. HOW many has Miami won.... 5 in the last 25 years. WHO has put MORE pros in the NFL in the same span....?? Miami Hurricanes. After having THOSE kind of seasons and sending THAT amount of talent to the NFL....you think the fans and alum "tolerate" rebuilding??!! You do not think expectations are high down here?!! Really?!! Seriously??!! :what:what:whatAnd you do not think there has been a meltdown here since the debacle of Larry Coker?!! But how would YOU know, you do not live in the southereastern US. You really need to read about other programs OUTSIDE the Big Ten then.

The U is a small private school...they do not have 3 quarters of the state going to Miami....like the Michigans, Ohio States, Florida and the Florida States of the world. When you have THAT many people going to those schools....you have more fans that bitch and complain...as well more boosters and alumni.

Like I said, people wonder why they hate the Big Ten.

I think these men realize that there is ALWAYS someone unhappy with their playing time when someone ELSE takes over. Let's be honest here, RR want to run HIS kind of system whis HIS kind of personel...and he just can't run it with what is left of the previous regime.

AND the Michigan fans were not happy with the initial results. Contrary to what some think of the "football tradition" in Miami, we know EXACTLY what Big Blue fans and alum are going through. Miami fans knew that we had to get through most of Cokers terrible recruits, whether the storm before Miami can be back completely. Michigan fans have to be patient...it is that simple. Because firing Rodriguez only accomplish the "glad he is gone" stage. Then you have to start ALL OVER AGAIN....and if that happens, you have the same results.

The University of Miami has a new football home, but that doesn't mean the Hurricanes are drawing a lot of new fans.
Dolphin Stadium is bigger and cleaner and has more amenities than the Orange Bowl. But, like its predecessor, it's normally a little more than half full.
For the fourth season in a row, the Hurricanes' average home attendance will be in the 40,000-plus range. The Hurricanes would have to draw more than 69,000 fans Thursday against Virginia Tech to average 50,000 for the season. The last time Miami got a crowd that big against anyone other than Florida or Florida State was five years ago against Tennessee.
School officials point out that this year's average of 46,191 is about 3,500 better than 2007's, but part of that bump can be attributed to school officials giving free tickets to university employees for the season opener against Charleston Southern.

"Obviously, there's opportunity to grow," athletics director Kirby Hocutt said. "We will take a look at every opportunity to offer our product to as many people as possible. We'll continue to talk about price and affordability."
Ticket prices start at $19 but range much higher.

"We've started conversations on how we may want to price Dolphin Stadium," Hocutt said. "It will be different next year. We have to be strategic."
Despite having some of the best players and teams of the past quarter-century, Miami's attendance has not been the best. Counting five Orange Bowls, the Hurricanes have had 28 home sellouts in their history. Florida has a streak of 120 consecutive sellouts.
"I did not know that," said Hocutt, in his first season as Miami's AD. "Does that surprise me? Yeah, it surprises me."
Miami coach Randy Shannon always has understood the challenges of getting fans in the stands at Hurricanes games. Appreciative of what he has, he calls the atmosphere great, the fans' support unbelievable.
"Miami's not a college town, not a big alumni-based school," he said. "We have 8,000 undergrads, a graduating class of maybe 1,200. Most state schools are 35,000, 40,000, may have 5,000 or 6,000 graduating. We have students, alumni in the South Florida region that come to games, and the fans.
"If you get an average of 50,000 a game, that shows a lot about the fan base you have. Because it's not 50,000 alumni. It's just the fan base."
