OK, who actually PLAYS sports?

MSBL/MABL?

My city stopped doing adult baseball leagues a while ago (youth and seniors only now) and as such are no longer part of the MABL (Men's Adult Baseball League) however they still have the MSBL (Men's Senior Baseball League). We have only 6 teams from the area that still keep the adult baseball league going but its just for pure fun now but we still need to rent the fields etc. We are talking about forming additional teams (2-3 new teams) for the adult softball leagues that the city is focused on right now. Because of the budget crisis they got rid of the least demanded sports and adult baseball was on that list as most adults prefer softball.

I have no idea about the tournaments that are available for softball so I'll be looking into those soon once the softball season starts up again in our area. Also we are having more and more trouble renting those pesky fields because of the increased number of teams in other leagues using the field and the city gets first dibs ya know lol. I need to get in a bit better shape so I'm thinking about dropping basketball and picking up soccer and see how I do for one year. I'm hoping I'll be decent though but I couldn't hazard a guess right now.

Anyone on these forums should look at their cities rec centers and see what sports are available to them because I must say its these sports I look forward towards each day after work. They keep you in shape, build friendships and social skills and yes even adults can improve social skills and become more confident around other strangers. But the most important part is having fun and burning off that normal life stress accrued day in and day out. You might even live longer too lol.

I do a lot of physical and athletic activities, but I would not consider most of them sports:

I am an avid snow skier. Ski every week during the ski season at a local resort 30 minutes from my house, Mt. High (which already opened unofficially). Believe it or not, Mt. High was supposed to host the very first winter winter Olympics in 1932. Ended up going to Lake Placid due to a late snow season here in Southern California.

I have also skied, here in SoCal several times at Snow Summit, Bear Mountain, Snow Valley, and Mt. Baldy, in the Sierras more often than I can count at Mammoth Mountain (which just opened for the season) and June Lake, and in CO, Breckenridge, Cooper Mountain, Vail, and Key Stone.

I am also Mountain bike, hike, and golf.

Nothing like skiing. Next weekend will begin my weekly skiing adventures.

Are you kidding me even suggesting that snow ski isn't a sport. The first time I tried this (with two weeks full one-on-one training I figured out I wasn't in good shape once I broke my leg and ripped my groin. You have to be in very good physical shape to ski that is for sure. Yes not pro level good shape but you need to be in shape unless you want to pull, rip, tear or break something on your body.

I'm just saying you shouldn't undervalue what is involved with the sport of ski.

I'm and expert skier and it is not a sport IMO.

There is a difference between athletics and sports. Sports involves athletics, but not all athletic events are considered a sport. Sports too me have to have two elements, athleticism AND competition. Snow skiing is athletic, but simply skiing, no matter how advanced you are is not a sport in and of itself. Now, if I was competing in an event, then that would be considered a sport.

I see what your getting at and I'm with you on this to boot. On a side note I'm thinking about trying out at One Buccaneer Place for the offensive coordinator position because I'll tell ya I'm coaching 10-11 year olds far better than the slop the Bucs put on the field today. The problem is hiring anyone for head coach, OC etc won't fix the problem with this team. The problem with this team is the owners and their income stream to Man U at my Buccaneers expense. Until that changes we will always suck because we will never spend for players and worse we never will convince a decent proven coach to bother building something out of nothing.

Does competitve eating count? ;)

Seriously though, I don't play anything "organized" anymore. I do golf though. And the group I golf with is more competitive than any sort of rec-league I ever knew.

Sadly, no organized adult leagues around my area.

I do enjoy playing golf these days, but rarely have time, and no competition, I suck! lol

This is a great thread.

I play in a soccer league that has 4 divisions. The league is setup with licensed referees, and the divisions are setup with Promotion/Relegation like a lot of the European leagues. Currently my team is in the 2nd division, looking to be one of the top 2 teams to move up to the top division.

I'm 32, so it's getting a little harder to keep up with some of the college aged kids, but it still is a lot of fun.

Wow, we actually have an athlete on the board! One who works up a sweat and everything! This guy and the goalie. Yay! ;)

Do YOU play anything Missy?

I do not play competitive sports, no. I am one of the many who has it all figured out from behind a keyboard instead. :p

However, I am a triathlete, three races last year, two so far this year, and I am traveling to an Olympic race later this month. Swim one mile, bike 25 miles, run 10K (6.2 miles).

So I do stay in shape. The best shape I've ever been in in my life, actually.

I was hoping to travel to the Ironman this year in Kona to watch, to inspire me for my future Ironman race (and to see Hawaii!), but my boyfriend has an illness in the family that is keeping us here. Perhaps next year.

HA!! Try catching 4 seasons a year(2 spring and 2 fall seasons....SFBL does not have a summer league and neither does the Nica League)...approx. 60 games a year...with a fat umpire leaning on you for 9 innings a game and see if ya don't sweat and aren't in shape....!! LOL!! I will trade that for playing soccer ANY DAY of the week!

And they get pissed when I "accidently" let a passed ball get by me.....the nerve!:D

My former boss, still runs a couple of triathalons a year ...the big one down here is the Disney one in January.

I got to see the Ironman when I went to Hawaii for our 5 wedding anniversary....it was really cool! You are gonna LOVE Kona....:up:yes:yes

Catching certainly does look like hard work. Pitching too. The rest, not so much.

It's not so hard when you don't have "Johnnie-bag-of-dounuts" leaning on you! LOL! We won't even wanna go into them having "stomach issues" and asking "did someone step on a duck?" every time something happened.

I probably drank a gallon of water every game and lost about 5 pounds a game.....with all the games I played, I am not surpised I am not divorsed...!:D

Maybe you can ask your boyfriend to teach you the game of golf? It's one of the few sports that can be played fairly easily without assembling an entire team on a whim. In golf, you are also your own referee. A game of honestly and sportsmanship. Once you have all the proper equipment, it's the one sport that can be played without much hassle.

UNLESS you BF is a professional, you should have NO ONE ELSE teach you! I had a buddy of mine teach me that was a single digit handicapper, and when I decided I wanted to get a little more serious about my game a take some lessons.....I had be UNTAUGHT my bad habits....it was time consuming and expensive.
