UNLESS you BF is a professional, you should have NO ONE ELSE teach you! I had a buddy of mine teach me that was a single digit handicapper, and when I decided I wanted to get a little more serious about my game a take some lessons.....I had be UNTAUGHT my bad habits....it was time consuming and expensive.

I don't think Sandra is looking to become a professional. Anyone that knows the game can introduce someone to it. The BF can show her the basics. If she likes it that much afterwards and wants to "take it to the next level", she can always visit a Pro.

Well he's not a golfer, and I won't be one either. I'm sure it's a wonderful activity for those who play, but it's just not for me...unless it involves getting a free game by hitting the ball into a clown's nose or something on the boardwalk. ;)

Triathlon training already takes up a lot of time...I can't be walking around a golf course all day!

My boyfriend did re-introduce me to surfing this year. I grew up on the Jersey shore and have dated a few surfers, who have gotten me out onto the waves on occasion. I hadn't done it in a while, though, but this year we've been out there a number of times. We'll be out some more, you can surf well into December before the water gets too cold for me. Many surf year round.

We're also looking to vacation in Cabo over the winter, where the surfing is supposed to be spectacular.

There is nothing like catching a good wave. Well, one other thing perhaps. :D

From my expierence there are no good waves in the Atlantic Ocean unless a storm is coming.

That is so not true. I also surfed the Pacific many times when I live in LA, the main difference is that the Pacific is much colder! Good thing I brought my wetsuit out there with me...

How much Atlantic ocean experience does the Kentucky guy have anyway?!?

I have been to the beach about 7 times.

May I suggest Rincon, Puerto Rico. They have some of the best surfing in the western hemisphere outside of Hawaii, Puerto Rico is closer and cheaper and in MY opinion....nicer than Cabo....and I LOVE Cabo!:D

You should really look at maps more often. There is this thing called the Atlantic Ocean...;)

New Jersey is full of surfers.

Sandra

No duh. Just always thought that was a West Coast thing.

Instead of surfing, I thought your state was full of these guys... :D

They have surfing in Jersey? :D

I surfed pretty much the entire South Bay when I lived there, and Huntington too. I love Manhattan and Hermosa, but they have nothing on Belmar and Manasquan. It's not Maverick (neither is SoCal), but Jersey has some serious surf. ;)

I know...What I said was in tongue an cheek. Jersey beaches occasionally make it into the top of best surfing beaches in some surfing ratings.

The reason why I said that is that I often get the same reaction from others when they read that I snow ski in SoCal.

I used to play hockey but with my multiple concussions I play tennis now. Tied for 1st place in madison area singles right now, whoopie doo!

I loved the outdoor recreation when I lived there. You're right, people don't realize how close the skiing is.

I don't miss the traffic, the lack of real pizza, or the plastic people, but I do miss the outdoor activities. Will Rogers State Park is amazing, we hiked it all the time. I miss going to Dana Point for breakfast...campfires on the beach in Huntington after watching the sun set...the Manahttan Beach pier, where I read many books...beautiful downtown Hermosa...

My favorite part of California, though, is driving through Big Sur. Wow. There is certainly nothing like that on the east coast. Acadia National Park in Maine is similar on a much smaller scale, but it's not Big Sur.

I see you were/are more of a beach person. I am more of a mountain person. Spend most of my free time hiking, biking, or skiing in the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Gabriel_Mountains"]San Gabriel Mountains - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Wpdms_shdrlfi020l_san_gabriel_mountains.jpg" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6e/Wpdms_shdrlfi020l_san_gabriel_mountains.jpg/256px-Wpdms_shdrlfi020l_san_gabriel_mountains.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/6/6e/Wpdms_shdrlfi020l_san_gabriel_mountains.jpg/256px-Wpdms_shdrlfi020l_san_gabriel_mountains.jpg[/ame], [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Bernardino_Mountains"]San Bernardino Mountains - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:San_Gorgonio_Mountain.jpg" class="image" title="North Side of San Gorgonio Mountain"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/bb/San_Gorgonio_Mountain.jpg/256px-San_Gorgonio_Mountain.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/b/bb/San_Gorgonio_Mountain.jpg/256px-San_Gorgonio_Mountain.jpg[/ame], and Sierra's.

If you like [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Sur"]Big Sur - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Big_Sur_June_2008.jpg" class="image"><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/6b/Big_Sur_June_2008.jpg/350px-Big_Sur_June_2008.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@commons/thumb/6/6b/Big_Sur_June_2008.jpg/350px-Big_Sur_June_2008.jpg[/ame], have you been up to the North Coast of CA in[ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Humboldt_Redwoods_State_Park"]Humboldt Redwoods State Park - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia@@AMEPARAM@@/wiki/File:Humboldtredwoods.jpg" class="image" title="The "Darkness at Noon" effect is synonymous with Redwood Groves."><img alt="" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/9/9a/Humboldtredwoods.jpg/283px-Humboldtredwoods.jpg"@@AMEPARAM@@en/thumb/9/9a/Humboldtredwoods.jpg/283px-Humboldtredwoods.jpg[/ame] and/or Del Norte County? I used to live there for 3 years. Redwoods on Big Sur are minor compared to the ones there. For those unfamiliar with the Redwood forest, Return of the Jedi was shot there (home of the Ewoks)

Right now I am playing in a Fall Softball league, I am playing 2nd base and catcher...hitting just a hair or 500 I think ( my power is down as I tore a ligament in my knee and dislocated my knee cap the first game of the season so it is still sore to turn on my leg and rotate to the ball properly when hitting, but I still drove two balls TO the fence (not over)....also I am in a church ministry I guess you could call it league for softball/basketball/football ( whatever the season is) we go to a prison for Juvieis and they are divided into teams and we play them for a prison league, its fun and its a great outreach and yes it does have refs and too them it counts, especially basketball. :)
