OMG David Letterman..

FYI, This is not the person I know but I heard the same thing about Letterman from a ex NBC Employee.

And the double standard is unbelievable here. On The View Barbara Walters said that Dave “is a very attractive man” and also said “Where do you meet people? In the workplace.”

Not minimizing what happened recently, but this is talking about a disgruntled writer whose career didn't meet her own expectations talking about stuff that happened 25 years ago. Not saying that it wasn't the truth, but this person has reasons to try and shift the blame.

What she is doing is backing up more about what Letterman has been accused of.

"Sexual politics did play a major part at his workplace. "

Actually he's never been accused of that, only in this thread and then by people trying to create a sexy headline to attach themselves to the issue to try and remain relevant (activist groups), that article is the first accusation... 25 years after the fact. I don't expect it to go far.

He admitted to having affairs with female staff members. According to Letterman he didn't even tell his wife about it. I have no doubt that women who slept with him got better jobs and perks that others didn't .

"Other high-level male employees were having sexual relationships with female staffers as well, she alleges, and the women gained professional benefits from those relationships."

I believe her.

I can't tell if you are outraged or jealous. This is heading dangerously close to sonic babble territory.

He admitted to having affairs with female staff members.

And that's it. Nothing else has been implied or accused outside of groups trying to sensationalize it until this woman has now apparently seized this opportunity to end 25 years of silence...

Unless litigation is filed, the story has died with Dave's apologies, assuming his wife has forgiven him.

Are you one of those women? Were you there in that workplace?

If you were neither, you know nothing. What's to believe?

How so?

Can't we have a discussion without the "hall monitor" coming along and reporting us to the teacher? (again)

Because... these things never remain civil. Worse, they tend to spill all over the site. People see the lack of general courtesy here and then think it is OK to trash talk on someones choice of sat carrier or whatever.

We went through a nasty war not so long ago, and the outcome was to set up a separate related site where this sort of stuff goes. Why do we need to spread it around here? This is a video enthusiast site, and if Letterman chooses to sleep with his staff, his spouse, or a flock of trained penguins has absolutely nothing to do with how to connect the dish or if you can get CBS coverage in Hellfreezesover, MI.

I may be a bit over sensitive today, but I have been disappointed by people who didn't follow through on promises. That has left me in a bind for this coming weekend. I have also been bombarded by 5 "evil Obama, pass this on to all your friends" e-mails. I come here for better.

And please don't tell me to suck it up and ignore it. If we let it go, we soon will be right back where we were a year ago.

BTW, why is it that every time I object to something becoming too political, somebody accuses me of being a snitch. I make my objections right out in the open.

No. I'm not a woman but so far Letterman has been the only one that covered it up and lied about . His wife would agree with me.

And that's all you know, so things like " I have no doubt that women who slept with him got better jobs and perks that others didn't ." are more than inappropriate.

Let's discuss charges, and things that have happened rather than randomly hating on Letterman to reinforce what you already thought of him (a "strange man").

Sorry but I believe Nell Scovell. She was a eye witness to the events. I'm surprised how many of you defend Letterman, a man that lied to his wife and kept it from other people as well. I'm not asking anyone here to not to defend Letterman. I just don't believe him . He's hiding more.

The way he talked about it on his show was really disgusting. Having his audience laugh about it and applaud. Give me a break. Very unconfetable to watch . Letterman should know better. And it looks like an intern has come forward with information about a relationship with Letterman , Holly Hester.

Yeah and you were ready to latch onto whatever negative this first lady had to say, and then she had nothing but good things and moved on waiting for the next bit of negative information. Now you have someone to hang your hat on... she's in the minority so far of the people involved in this.

Worked there for 5 months nineteen years ago and felt 'tension'. Wow, Dave is an evil, evil man. Speaking out to expose inequalities in the workplace, how noble, perhaps that would have been relevant nineteen years ago. I'm not posting in defense of David Letterman, im posting in defense of common sense.

It just shows that Letterman seems to have done this for many years. And yes I do have a problem with anyone that gives special perks to woman who sleep with the boss. I know I'm not in the minority when I find problems with that. The very idea that Letterman would make it difficult for woman who he didn't find attractive is disturbing.

You're just so desperately trying to make yourself a straw man in this argument, give it up and stick to discussing the topic, please.

Nobody has said what he did was 'right', give me a break. He's just not some evil boss who whored out his staff, he had relationships in addition to the one he had with his girlfriend who he then later married. You don't just rampantly do everyone on your staff and get away with it, there'd have been much more commotion than someone coming forward 19 years after the fact.
