NFL 2009-10 Season

Because by now they were probably expected to have their act together and Brady Quinn would be having his dream 5+ wins at this point of the season as the starter. Instead he's taking the reins of a team still waiting to hit rock bottom without a GM and strategically letting him start just because he can't statistcally hit 70% of the seasons snaps and trigger the owners paying him more money as cameras focus more on Rob Ryan on the sidelines instead of Mangini since he actually shows emotion during the game.

If only they could somehow flex schedule MNF too.

Weekend after next is the first flex'd SNF, and this Thursday is the start of Thursday Night Football on NFLN.

NFL Rookie Wage Scale Being Discussed

Pro Football Talk is reporting that the meetings between the NFL and player’s association are now starting to get into financial details. Specifically, they report by way of SportsBusiness Journal that the concept of a rookie wage scale could very well be on the table now.

Larry Johnson wasn't claimed on waivers, he is now an unrestricted free agent, with the Steelers, Texans, Browns, and Redskins potentially interested or suggested good fits for him in some way shape or form.

Good luck to whomever takes that chance.

I wouldn't be surprised to see N.E. jump in the group, they seem to take malcontents and make them respectable again.

I HOPE the Steelers PASS.

So, wow.

Mangini claims he didn't know about Quinn's escalators | ProFootballTalk.com

"No, absolutely not. With all the different contracts. . . . I don't know what the incentives are. But that wouldn't make my decision [even if I did]."

Like PFT says in the post... there's no way he didn't know, this makes him look either stupid or incompetent... triggering those escalators makes him impossible to trade, how can DA's performance since Quinn was benched justify Quinn sitting for just long enough so that he likely won't approach 70% of the snaps for the season? DA has proven he isn't the future of the franchise, yet they leave him out there playing horribly week after week.

I hope Quinn lights up the Steelers, showing just how poorly run this franchise has been under Mangini and his hand picked GM, and then they can watch someone else make it into a real NFL team as they watch it from home next season.

Yahoo's Jason Cole reports that Raiders owner Al Davis is hoping to fire head coach Tom Cable at season's end.

Citing a "source familiar" with ex-assistant Randy Hanson's case against Cable stemming from a training camp fight, Cole says the Raiders are cooperating with the NFL so that Cable can be fired for cause. Davis would then be off the hook for Cable's remaining salary. The league is exploring whether to force Cable into psychological evaluation and counseling for his history of (alleged) physical abuse against Hanson and women.

Why are the Browns on MNF and Bengals aren't?

When the schedule came out, most people thought Cincy would still be mediocre.

BTW, I predicted that they'd go 6-10 this year- they have 6 wins already!

Here's what I said:

They finished last year nicely, but they still have a long way to go- Cedric Benson could be a decent back, but they have some holes to fill. Concerns- Whether Laverneaus Coles can fill the shows of T.J. Housmanzadeh, and if Carson Palmer can bounce back from an injury-filled season.

He's been more than decent- he's been a BEAST!

IF they don't walk over it, this is a VERY good idea.

should've been done a long time ago.

Yes, but as things go, IF they agree to this, what will the Owners have to give UP as compensation ?

I think I can speak for the Browns and say that we don't want him.

Candid Q&A with Eric Mangini

For those of you who've been critical of Eric Mangini (myself included), this candid interview done by CBS Sports offers an inside glimpse of Mangini where he opens up quite a bit. Quite a contrast to the vilified, condemned and ridiculed character he's been created by many media outlets this year.

For Browns fans, I consider this required reading (listen up Sky). For fans of past teams with Mangini as coach (Sandra and Bill), when you get a chance, please read. Fans of teams with constant regime changes, you should read too. Sometimes we need to take a step back and actually get to talk to the person to see what he's really all about.

After reading this article, I support continuity more than anything for this franchise. Early on, we may have to take two steps back to take one step forward, but let's stick with the plan. Give Mangini time to bring in his guys. It's not easy when in sports sometimes the only thing that matters is wins, but in the end, I think we'll be better off.

Enjoy.....

Aside from Mangini deciding he needs some PR, and people need to see him a little more as a human being, and a little less as a football drone, as a Jet fan I'm not sure what I'm supposed to get out of that article.

It certainly doesn't change my opinion that he is not a good head coach at this point in his career.

Continued success in the NFL takes time. For the most part, a new coach just doesn't walk into a team and turn things around like magic. Unless of course the coach is walking into a perfect situation (ala Jim Caldwell of the Colts & Mike Tomlin of the Steelers).

Developing a winning personality on a team not used to winning takes time. Look at the other new coaches around the league: Jim Schwartz in Detroit, Raheem Morris in Tampa Bay, Steve Spagnuolo in St. Louis, Todd Haley in Kansas City. They all have 1 win each.

I am at the point where I am sick of the constant regime changes. Let's stick with 1 guy. Let's give him time to bring in and draft his type of players. And by time, I mean at least 5 years. This switching it up every other year is getting old. There's nothing more demoralizing to a team than another regime change. A budding franchise needs to know who the leader is. They need 1 system in place and to be able to develop players according to that system. Rome wasn't built in a day you know, and the same should apply to the resurrection of the Cleveland Browns.
