Mississippi Delta
I decided I wanted to move my old Dish 500 dish out where my Primestar and Wilson are located. I had bad luck getting NASA and the ION channels on 119W with the circular/linear LNBF.
While I was taking down the Dish 500 dish I ran into bad company...

If I am doing this in the summer months, I would have a bad situation on my hands!

WHEW!!!

Yeah, that happened to me the last time I took down a BUD. I decided that a can of wasp and hornet spray is a necessary addition to my toolbox.

Which is why I rescued my 6 BUDs either in the early spring, or just recently in the late fall. Hah, the wasps came out in November anyway, when it hit 68 one day, but they could only harass me and didn't sting.

I am sure glad they all moved out when i took the cover off , when i pulled it off i came down the ladder very fast not knowing what was there .

WOW. That would sucks. From now on I am squirting a can of spray up there before I attempt removal. One of those cans that can shoot 20'!

Damn...
I hate those stinging b*******s.
I can just walk out to my front porch and get popped by one of them. For awhile I was buying two cans of wasp and hornet spray every week!

Panhandler, you wouldn't survive the trip down the ladder if that motel was full of guests!
Looking at that picture gives me more than chills...
I believe this is the worst year of wasp problems.

Those ladybug looking beetles bite/sting? WOW!, I didn't know that.

DirectDishNet,

Those aren't "lady"bugs my friend! Those are Asian beetles which appear similar to ladybugs. They were imported to N.A. to eat aphids on soybeans mostly and they have since gone rampant. They will infest every nook and cranny of your home, barn, car, camper and whatever hole they can find to crawl into after harvest and before winter sets in.

They do BITE and their bites really smart when they do, especially on the back of your neck! They're everywhere and they live through the coldest of winters.

I found a pile of them, dead and dried like a pile of old maids from a popcorn popper, in the corner of my brother's outhouse when it was -10 F in the dead of winter. When I turned on his porta-heater to use the facilities, they all woke up and started flying about!

Oh, Thanks for the info. This is my first year in the mid west. We didn't have strange things like that back in Arizona only the normal everyday rattle snakes, scorpions and killer bee's.
So are the Asian beetles at least controlling the aphids on soybeans?

haven't done a very good job. still have to spray for aphids. Every time we try to 'fix' nature, it backfires...just ask Australians about Cane Toads or Floridians about Tea trees

I can't say anything for the soybeans, but I have no aphids on me!

:D

OWWH! Dang little buggers!!!

Bees! Run! Run for your life!

The worst thing that I ever experienced was those danged ole yellow jacket (hornets).

First experience I had was in cutting up an old fallen limb from a cottonwood tree at my parents cabin. Just cleaning up the lot of fallen timber and underbrush.

Started cutting on a hollowed out limb on the ground and kept feeling a sharp "smarting" pain in my arm and elbow. I wasn't looking, just thought I had hit some core wood and was kicking up sparks and hot chunks of wood. When it finally got to me too much, I glanced at my arm which was covered by 50 to 75 yellow jackets all pissed off at me for cutting into their hollow log home! I just dropped the chainsaw and ran to the river!

Years later, I was helping a neighbor remove some railroad ties that at their cabin that a previous owner had set for pilings or supports for a deck. The guy was digging them out by hand and I offered to yank 'em out with a chain and my dump-truck. The ties came out slick as a wet whistle and he thanked me for saving him all the digging and time and gave me an ice cold beer.

Don't you know, yellow jackets love beer just as much as I do!

One crawled into my beer while I was helping haul all the old ties to a burn pit in the back of the cabin.

Being the hot and thirsty worker that I was, I took a big ole gulp of that beer and got a really big surprise about half way down my gullet!

The last act of defiance by a little ole bug left me in pain for a week or two. Ever had your tonsils pulled?... Well, have 'em pulled everytime you swallow for a week or two! I can't believe he went down!

You won't leave your pop or beer uncovered ever again! I guarantee it!

AC you are just full of , lol, good information. I never knew there was a difference in those little buggers, Now I'll have to find pictures of a real ladybug because we're over-run with the things up here too. They pile in all my dish openings too, but I have noticed they do seem to bite a little, lol. Live and learn. Now I can kill them with impunity, along with the wasps, yellow jackets, and japanese beetles.

The mighty kudzu forests around here are a good example of when imports go rampant.
