Kiffin to USC!!!!

I hear what you're saying, but loyalty is a 2 way street. You know how ruthless SEC teams can be. Lose to Florida next year and there'd be Tennessee fans saying fire Lane Kiffin. Lose to Georgia and there'd be talk of a buyout. In that environment it's every man for himself. It sucks in a way, but when you show no loyalty to those you hire you really can't expect them to care about you either.
Yet if he does the job he was hired for - i.e. win championships - he gets all the loyalty he needs (see Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, etc.). He took their money, saw something better right away, and is leaving the program at a disadvantage by his timing. Inexcusable, and totally self-absorbed.

look it at this way, kiffin will the head coach when the ncaa enables the death penalty for socal. any reputable coach with a brain knew it was forthcoming and stayed the hell out of dodge. but kiffin is such a douche bag, he probably would think something like that would be bragging material.

Kiffin did his job last season. He took over a program that was in shambles and got them to a bowl game, and did it without much talent on offense. He wasn't going to win a NC last season. Yes, he is leaving Tennessee in a lurch which is unfortunate, but schools are every bit as cold blooded when they lose their patience with the coach.

I know schools can be cutthroat if the team is losing, but I can't think of any school in the SEC that hasn't given their hiree at least 3-4 years to prove they can win (or an additional 3-4 to prove they can win again). Tennessee wasn't going to get rid of Kiffin as long as he was doing his job. If he stayed and continued to improve the team, he has the loyalty of the school - and their money - as agreed upon. If he starts losing - i.e., not fullfilling his contract - he's let go. He did a good job last season and there certainly wasn't any indication that UT was considering letting him go.

You can dis on the SEC all you want (or any conference for that matter - I don't care), but there's no excuse for this a$$hole blowing town in one year and at such an unfortunate time. You can't put this one on Tennessee. Vol fans have a right to be pissed. Kiffin comes off as an immature prick based on his actions, and only cares about Kiffin.

Well, I've talked to several people "in the know" and the news is very bad for Vol fans. The "short list" is getting shorter and shorter as candidates state they are not interested. According to the people I talked to the only person left on the short list that has not said no is Duke head coach David Cutcliff (and that is because they haven't talked to him yet). That is not good, not good at all. My guess is we end up making the interim head coach Kippy Brown the real head coach in order to get some kudos for hiring a minority candidate, and hope for the best. I have a feeling this is going to be very very ugly...

I'd be pissed too if I were a Tennessee fan. That's natural. But from Kiffin's perspective this was a no brainer. USC has the ability to play in BCS games virtually every year. Tennessee doesn't. A recruit looking at both schools could expect to play in 3 Rose Bowls in a 4 year career at USC. If he went to Tennessee he'd play in 3 Outback Bowls and maybe 1 BCS game. The SEC is a great conference if you're one of the top teams. It's highly overrated if you're 5th or 6th best.

Watching the press conference and one word keeps popping in my head.

IDIOT!!!

Damn he is so full of himself. I hope he loses every game at SC.

BTW. Wasn't he on the staff the years the NCAA is looking into at USC????

If they go before the NCAA in
fractions com. They will get hammered!!

Like I said before. Tennessee , you will be better off without this jerk.

tenn is probably much better in the long run. although, fans may need to be prepared for a rough few seasons.

There have been several recruits to decommit already from Tennessee

You forget that Bill Curry was practically ran out of Alabama even after winning the SEC his final year and getting Coach of the Year.

Ron Zook was fired before his 3rd season ended in Florida.

Once upon a long time ago, the SEC was loyal to it's coaches, Dooley's first few teams reaked at UGa, but no longer.

Couple losing seasons, and they're calling for your head. If Richt had lost to Tech again this year, his tenure at Georgia would be in danger, as it is, he was forced to fire his DC, and almost his OC.

Thanks for adding substance to my original point - it's all about "me first" with today's generation. You may condone this type of greedy behavior, but personally I find it inexcusable. And when someone in a position like Kiffin acts this way, it just teaches those who might look up to him to do the same, which is what is wrong with sports today. I do agree however that Kiffin made the decision with no brains. He seems to make them all that way. Apparently the head honchos at USC do the same.

By the way, since you can forsee the future of these teams so well, can you give my bookie a call? :)

All given at least 3 years, like I said, but that's beside the point. Who were the better people in your eyes after the way all this went down? The coaches. They fulfilled their commitments and stayed loyal to the job and the players. Much different people than Lane Kiffen. Again, proving my point of today's "me first" mentality.

I know some of you on here are of this generation, and I will never get through to you. I'm not however, and I think it's a shame what it's doing to sports today. Too much greed and selfishness, and not enough sportsmanship. Just my opinion.
