Arena Football League Returns

I like to watch Arena League now and again. What network is going to broadcast it?

Isn't that where all the niche sports go, Arena Football, NHL, ... ;)
Hockey is the most popular sport in North America...the real North America - everything north of the Mason-Dixon line and into Canada. The most popular sport in South America (everything sound of the Maxon-Dixon line) is Soccer. I'm not sure how you manage to group the NHL with Arena Football...NASCAR, which is not technically a sport, or bowling are much better examples of niche sports. ;)

In any case, I enjoy watching Arena Football once or twice every Spring on the television...but I certainly have no desire to pay full-admission to watch it in person. Personally, I still miss the Michigan Panthers of the defunct USFL and the Baltimore CFL Colts (or whatever they eventually called themselves).

I did it because the ratings for hockey are pathetic, and it's on Versus because no one else (NBC, ESPN) wants to carry it again.

It's a great sport, unfortunately it has no following outside the Midwest and Northeast.

I'm pretty sure the NFL is the most popular sport in the US, and is more popular than hockey even including Canada in North America. The size of stadiums vs hockey venues and the television ratings pretty much wrap up that argument. Two regular season NFL games this season were the most watched cable programs in history and the Super Bowl is a worldwide event and aired in 230 countries last season half of those in HD. I'd expect maybe Nascar to be second? MLB, NBA and NHL can fight over what's left of the audience from there. Sadly WWE is probably more popular than all of those, and most of those viewers probably think it's a sport too.

If they played football in a 200 foot area, then the size of the audience in football would be much closer to what they have in hockey, about 20,000.

So you are implying all regular season hockey games would fill 60-80k seat stadiums then? For 6 months a year 10-16 games per weekend, very few fail to sell out. With waiting lists for season tickets for some franchises. The same would happen for Hockey?
