I'm thinking of replacing me current dish with a Fortec 6' with polar mount. I see a Sadoun listing for a 3" polar mount. However, the pole I have in the ground is a 3 1/2" pole used to mount my Orbitron (now damaged beyond repair - see avatar). Question: Is there any kind of 3" to 3 1/2" adapter (reducer?) I can use to mount the Fortec polar mount to a 3 1/2" pole?

its easier to step up than step down. if you had some metal tools you could torch a few holes in that 3.5 " pipe and weld some nuts to it for some set screws. then slip a 3" pole inside and tighten it down. ive done the reverse of this to make pole bigger but never had to go smaller.

crackt out,.

I could not find anything I liked so I got a piece of steel and turned it down and welded it in.
It was not a very cheap way to do it.

I was considering drilling three half inch holes and then use a tap to make the threads for 1/2" bolts. Any thoughts on that approach?

If you are going to trash the dish you have, disassemble the mount, and keep the part that slides over the pole. Get you a short length of 3"pipe, and a 4' square piece of plate if the top of your old mount is open....weld the plate to the top of the 3.5 mount, the weld the 3" pipe to the plate. Paint, then slide it right over your 3.5" pipe.

The End. :)

I did something similar here with my Birdview pole to reduce the diameter....but I needed mine smaller...because I only had 5' of 6" pole that the BV has to mount to...you just do what I did, in reverse.

Of course it assumes you can find someone to weld it for ya...

definately the easiest approach. id only try it if the pole was pretty thick. and youd need minimum 6 bolts to make it rigid (2 levels of 3 bolts). im a cheap dude and im always changing out dishes. i have a big 3m spun on a 3 inch pole i sleeved to 4 inch. cheap and easy is good but the more time and money you put into it the less headaches you will have in the long run. i never intended to live at my present house this long so that is why i cheaped out. haha.

Check the Inside diameter of your 3 1/2" mount. If it is 3" or slightly bigger, insert a 3" I.D. pipe inside it and secure by welding or screws.

The Orbitron 3.5 mount already has a 4" plate welded to it. (see photo) All I have to do is disassemble it and have the 3" section of pipe welded onto the plate. Thanks for the idea and the photo.

:hatsoff:

I was raised in a a family of structural ironworkers and welders...I get all kinds of diabolical ideas...it's probably a good thing I don't have a welding machine, no telling what I would do... :D:idea:
