Echostar 15 launch and operate FCC filing.

EchoStar 15, a 32-transponder-capable DBS satellite, is expected to effectively replace EchoStar 3 and
will be ready for launch by the third quarter of 2010.6

The preoperational tests will be at or near the 61.5W location. Looks like they are pushing to get it into service rapidly.

From what I have understood, they are pushing the locals for Eastern Arc to 77 and going to use 72 & 61.5 for core HD channels.

Mind you, I may have misunderstood.

Spotbeams will stay on the duty of E12 at 61.5. 77 is supposed to get a spotbeam satellite which makes sense since some of the TPs will be used for Mexico they could reuse those frequencies for beams if they are far enough from the border not to interfere.

You can definitely see the writing on the wall that they know more about the health of E3 than they report in the SEC filings ;) But to be fair the bird was launched in 97 and was supposed to be replaced by now with AMC14.

Yeah they need that new bird ASAP

Then Charlie will need to travel (to Kazakhstan?) and "grease" the palm of the guy at the launch pad. I'm sure he can "bump" E15 up in line.

Of course Charlie, being known as "high pockets" in the satellite launching community, probably will try a $5 bill and ruin our chance of ever getting this thing launched. :)

A first look at the footprint.

High Power and Superhigh Power Modes.

A much larger area will be served by E15 as compared to E3.

I suspect E3's continuing to function at all is a testament to the power of prayer.

No need, Echostar 12 (rainbow 1) allready spots for the entire country.

Not near enough, particularly with only 2 uplink centers.

However, the most recent Dish 10-K showed an Echostar 16 sat for 61.5 that will probably be a spotbeam sat.

Given how loose the beams are, I wonder if E16 won't be capable of spots and CONUS, as it appears E15 might best be a backup to all CONUS EA (and maybe WA) sats.

Hmmm, will E15 be the first Dish sat with a phased array?

From attachment A:
The ECHOSTAR-15 satellite can also be reconfigured, in orbit, to adjust its beam coverage to better optimize performance at other possible orbital locations.
