Found a Sonicview 8000 for $25.00 at a Salvation Army store earlier today.

Oh another thing I forgot to mention, the USB front door cover is missing too. And this baby has a green board on it as I opened it to check the usb problem and to dust if off, could be the 8psk I'd say.

SV 8000HD are prone to overheating, especially with these green boards. It may be a good idea to look on the web for some mod info about adding 1 or 2 60mm fans inside the STB case, since these boards were reported always ON by default if mounted. Again, turn Off LNBs on DN sats as suggested above, otherwise as I red you may have a problem even with FTA sats scanning and reception, assuming you have a motor. ;)

As to reply from SV Support, it may take (a lot) more effort to get things moving due to reported ongoing complications for the company. "Upload/Download Channel List" or similar commands should work in both directions, and Corsair USB Dongles are always detected by the STB at once.

Yea I read about that before re: heat. I can always connect a laptop usb fan on-top to remove hot air from the inside.
In which it has its own power supply so no need to power up from USB since it don't work anyways with this 8000

OK just loaded the clean file, and still has same satellite lists as the hacked one had.

Well I guess it will stay the way it is, I've done everything I can do with a null cable.
Loaded the clean file then the factory file and still say network adapter and channel change error .. kinda annoying but what can I do.

Hopefully the guys from SV technical support will reply to my email about the usb board, so if I can get that going the clean file will load and work like it should via USB pen drive as the instructions do clearly say to use a pen drive.

So for now, the SV semi works OK at times. I did remove the 8psk board since there is basically no point in having it and causing heat.

were you able to load the sat list?

nope, the loader loads it and says upload complete and when I check the list no difference. No wonder this unit was at the salvation army, prob hacker had the same prob as me and donated it LOL.

We'll see if getting the USB board will help with the files/channel lists

I red, some folks posted a fix to "channel change error" issue you mentioned. Hope it will clean up your STB ROM of garbage. Did you try to use System Cleanup File before uploading the factory bin? ;) It seems like all files are saved on the same ROM, so if it saves the FW, it should save the channel file too, unless the FW in memory is corrupted, requiring system cleanup first.

well what I am doing now and its actually working good is just renaming all the DN sats to FTA sats (129w to 123w, etc) and setting up USALS manually with a strong transponder from the list and once I reach that location I save it.

Seems to be doing very good, already got most active CBAND/KU sats saved and HH120 motor is moving fine with it.

So I guess it wont be too bad for now, although it has a firmware I don't really like but heck as long as I can see FTA I'm good :up

Does anyone have the cleaner file? Could you post it here or in the review thread please? My box has a couple quirks and I'd like to start from scratch and see if that cures them.

Good Going Pro, glad you are making some progress! It could be as we already know the 1st boot loader is corrupted for whatever reasons. In this case depending on what they've made the default USB or the RS232 is prolly your problem. It seems that by using the RS232 it's actually telling you it's doing something when it's really not because it's not the default. Maybe when you get the USB problem fixed it will write the new firmware after you've used the Clean-up tool.

It's to bad you can't telnet into the box using the RS232 cable and tell it what to use as the default.

Good to know though you can do something with it manually! When all else fails a little Manually enter! I will have to remember that in case I come to own one of the Sonic someday!

What else you can do to restore your STB? Since you have 2 SV8000HD, try this:

1. Detach front USB Board from the 1-st unit and attach to the 2-nd - will take a few minutes, very easy and obvious, no soldering required;
2. Install "channel change error" fix bin via USB and reboot. It was mentioned somewhere as V505 or something - I didn't pay attention;
3. Install System Clean bin and reboot if asked;
4. Install System Restore bin and reboot;
5. Install New Factory bin.

If not cured, try installing something like V0211 UD_Error Package, which includes factory ROM and Bootloader files. Then install New Factory bin and you'll be hopefully ready to explore FTA.

A bit challenging, but interesting exercise. ;)

sounds like a lot of work, but eventually I will get to it one of these days.
Ama wait til SV responds to my email this week. I can also call them so either way I will wait for the board replacement. If they become difficult about getting that part, then I will do as you say.

This is wat I used

There's a super not-so-secret key method of forcing the STB into recovery mode and pulling a factory file right off the USB as well. It bypasses the main bin and goes into a life support mode. I had to do that several times to mine with the infamous UD error (which in reality is the caps on the power supply going bad as i found out later).

As for the channel change error, it's something to do with the EPG data overflowing the memory for it and freaking out the STB... an ECM of sorts i've read. Once it's there, it stays until you reload the box.

How? If you can do such a thing, is there any reason you shouldn't do it that way every time?
