ViP 622 & 722 Running Bug Thread

I think mine might be on it's way out as well. Couple of unexpected reboots during the week (twice in an hour one time) and today I found that my recordings were playing in "stop motion" (jerky). Pulling the plug (and replugging it) seemed to solve it for now but I wonder if there's something else going on. I do have a USB fan running from it (sucking out), but the HD temps are still up there regardless (123/86/113)

Those temps are fine compared to mine: 138/104/131. This is partly due to the altitude.
BTW for those who don't know their temps, Menu+6+3+counters+page down several times.

You may have an alignment problem. Do a (Menu+6+1)+3 or +1 to see the signal levels on 4 transponders of each satellite, only 1 for 129. This will give us a better idea of your problem.

I have two recordings on my 722K (1 OTA and 1 satellite) over the past week that shows fully recorded in DVR menu but only gets to a few minutes before ending. Very annoying to say the least. I'm going to try a reboot and see if it happens again.

They fixed something....

Two 722's here.

Since I've had them, we've had periodic required reboots due to freezing. This only happened while using the remotes, with RF or Infra-red. Lived with it, as the systems are otherwise great.

Somewhere in the last few months, they've fixed the software problem causing this problem. I figured it was a buffer problem, or a race problem with asynchronous multitasking operating without flags. In any event, after a year or so of this, both systems are magically fixed. I've not bothered to keep track of software version upgrades... I'm sure the software guys know what they did and why.

For the past two weeks, I have experienced an intermittent (about 1/3 of the time, but random) issue with my 622. When I turn on the system with my Universal remote (which I have had for years and never had a problem with), I get the screen that says to turn on the sat. receiver, press "select"...I do, and nothing happens. Sometimes it goes into a full restart sequence. A couple of times, I have had to hold in the power button and force the restart myself. Bottom line, I am getting very tired of this happening and having to wait 10 minutes for the sat to fire up.

Anyone else experiencing this issue lately, or is this an isolated sign that my 622 HD DVR is about to bite the dust?

Hardware: VIP722
Software version: L625-RJ2B-N
Mode bug occurred in: Dual
Dish setup: dish 500
Description of bug: after pausing live tv and resuming. the video will play for 30sec to a minute and then jump to live TV.
Description of bug: Guide favorites setting will not stay set. Every time I set guide selection to "Guide Button" the setting reverts to "Guide popup" the next time I turn on the TV.

This is a replacement DVR. the last one was throwing random 122 errors.
I have a call in for this one but will wait a few days to see if the problem goes away per discussion with the tech. I really doubt it will

Hardware: VIP622
Software version: L625
Mode bug occurred in: Single
Dish setup: Western Arc
Description of bug: Scheduled timer fires but stops before completion.

For the past month whenever I record Law and Order:SVU from sat HD locals in its prime time slot only 8-19 min are captured. The repeat of the same show occurs on Saturday night and that timers executes just fine. (start to finish)

A couple of annoyances here. Some repeated, some WAY past their should-have-been-fixed date. Also some feature requests of mine. :)

1) Currently I have a 222k set up in dual tv mode with TV 1 run via composite to a 4:3 CRT and coax for TV 2. I have yet to find out how to get TV 1 to let me run in letterbox aspect like TV 2 can so I am stuck going stretch mode which essentially center-crops HD channels. If a channel change is made on TV2 it knocks my picture on TV1 back to Normal mode (but the channel info banner still reads 'Stretch') so everyone is skinny. If I am on an SD channel it zooms everything vertically. Both require me rotating through aspect settings on TV1 til a channel is changed on TV2 again.

2) It would obviously be nice if the broadband connection could be used for inter-box communication like caller id info and such. Some premises cannot reliably run DishCOMM due to various reasons but an interconnected LAN is usually much easier.

3) As a technical possibility it would be cool to allow the DVR boxes to record a virtually unlimited number of programs simultaneously based on what transponders are tuned in. For example if 4 programs are set to record in the same timeslot but they are on channels on the same sat/transponder, the DVR would record all these on one tuner with the other to spare. Same thing for the OTA tuners as well. In both of these different technologies this is perfectly possible. In fact there are a number of single tuner DVB-S tuners for PC's on the market that advertise this capability of being able to view/record multiple programs on the same transponder even though there is only one physical tuner in place.

4) PLEASE do true multi-room viewing so DVR'd programs can be watched on a separate box. Many of us have our boxes hooked up to our home networks already and jumping at this ability. As well, DishCOMM/Slinglink has the bandwidth and no reason boxes can't do the same networking this way for those who haven't hooked them up to a network connection (Do a box-to-box speed test over DishCOMM. If it doesn't pass muster, note this to the user. Otherwiser, good to go!).

5) It'd be nice if recordings weren't strictly locked to a given 'TV' but more a tuner and allow the tv outputs to switch between tuners as necessary. It's annoying to have one tv stuck on a channel because it is currently recording but knowing the alternate tuner is completely free. ONly workaround is to set another recording to what you want to switch to and start playing the recording.

6) And lastly a request that will probably NEVER happen: Please release your Media Center tuner solution. I will forever praise you for it E*/Dish. :D

I don’t think we have a official place for feature request so I will put it here.

When deleting items especially multiple ones there is always a pause as it appears this function is done in real time and of course the larger the selection the longer the pause.

Feature Request: Allow items to be marked for deletions, and thus free up disk space (at least the counter) then complete the function in the background.

This is done in Windows…items moved to the recycle bin are no longer counted against your HD space even though the still sit in the recycle bin.

This is done on Tivo…their deletes appear instant but are really carried out as a background function.

(Okay I know there are more pressing bugs like the EHD bug but this is still a nice to have.)

not sure what version of software i have but on the vip722 when tv one either goes to sleep or to the screensaver tv two will not respond to channel changing or even exiting the screensaver

I have a 722k and when I try to record two ota programs, one on each tv the receiver restarted once at the very end of an hour program and another time about 15 minutes into a 1/2 hour show. Is this a common problem? I haven't had the 722k that long.

For the last three days... my 722 has had really jerky video when viewing TV, but when I press the menu button (or guide button) and the menu (guide) comes up and the program then shows up in the little box, the video runs smoothly.

A reboot fixes... but I hate having to reboot every day.

I too have the same problem with my 722.

It has also affected some recordings recorded just last week. They were jerky too.

Could this be an issue with the L627 software update?

Tv Antenna for 722 VIP Duo

Does the VIP 722 duo have a tv antenna coax on the back of the box?? I seen pictures of it online. But on mine it looks like it has a small cover of this section of the box has 2 screws don't want to mess up anything. I'm leasing the box. Thanks.

Sounds like you have a 722K which requires a tuner module for OTA.

Software version: L661 ViP722K
Mode bug occurred in: Single and Dual
Dish setup: Dish 1000.2 (110/119/129)
Description of bug: The bug that I'm seeing is when watching then deleting an archived item from the external hard drive, while also recording something with either TV1 or TV2, the item or items being recorded "freeze" in time at the point of deletion and continues recording that "frozen" image (no sound either) till the end of the recording. This only occurs in this situation, watching an archived event and deleting it with TV1 and TV2 in live mode nothing occurs.
OTA Antenna: No OTA

Not sure if I am having the same problem, but sounds similar. This only happens on HD channels. I observe that the audio is fine, but the HD video seems to be in slow motion. I can change channels and it still does it and it does it on recorded HD also. Change to a SD channel and no problem. Back to HD channel, still doing it. Turn reciever off and back on still doing it. Each time a reboot was required to clear it. One time a hard reboot was required. I have noticed this maybe three times over the last two weeks.

I have a 622 and a 722, and they have been awesome up until a couple of weeks ago.
now when I bring the 722 receiver out of stand by my recordings are gone and I have lost all dvr function, I also get freeze ups when i skip ahead or back too fast.
a hard reset corrects the problem, but i'm doing this 2-3 times a day.
I have been with dish for 13 years and this is the first major issue(s) i have had with their receivers.
the freeze ups are starting to get on the natives nerves as hard resets take time, so i hope they fix the problem quick or I'll be forced to move on.

If I record on all four tuners on my 722K at the same time, one of the events will not record completely, the duration meter will look like it recorded the whole show but it will only play for a few minutes and then jump to the end. Happens everytime I use all four tuners at the same time.

I have a 622. Recently - for over a week now - my receiver has been acting weird. It shuts off by itself then powers up by itself then searches for signal and then the programming comes up and then goes through the whole cycle again non-stop. I have to unplug it but it does not correct.

Has anyone else experienced this? What is going on? Unfortunately for me I am not in the US so I cannot call customer service (my account is a valid fully paid one BTW - not a hack or FTA). Please help!
