Anyone Watching ESPN 3D?

Were people like this when the first HD sets came out in '98?

When I first saw HD I wanted it bad... it was awesome.

I recently went to see a film in 3D at theaters. It was cute the first 10 minutes but after that you really didn't notice it until you thought about it again or there was a shot that you knew they meant for 3D to catch your eye. I just don't see the point. Not something I would pay extra for.

I don't have any hate for 3D, I just don't have an desire for it now.

It's always just been a gimmick. It's not going to be mainstream for 10 years or so, if ever.
There's some 3D movies out in theaters now, but it's not like next year all the movies coming out will be 3D.

Even if I had a 3D TV and a 3D blu-ray player how many 3D movies are there now ? 5 ?, 10 ?

I think 3D is great for theaters and they needed some kind of boost. For home, what a pain. The glasses to me are the real deal breaker. Remember the industry was hot on interactive. It was the future and millions were poured into it. Most folks dont care about that. I feel 3D has a purpose but not in homes. HD is just now becoming pervasive and I hate to see it lose any funding or focus to something that really isnt well suited for the home.

I don't understand the complete hate for 3D, I liked what I saw at CES from Panasonic with Directv...

Agree! But after the premium for being an early adopter drops a bit and when a 3D projector comes out I like that meets my specs; I may get one and move my current den unit into one of the bedrooms. I think they should include 2 pair of glasses with the units or a Blu-ray bundle for about $75 - $125

I just got an outdoor 720P projector that happens to be 3D ready. So I might take advantage at some point but outdoor movie night needs lots of glasses and I will hold off till the price point becomes more financially feasible.

I think a pair , maybe 2 come with a set.
They were calling it a 3D Starter kit I think.

3D is niche for sure. If I had a 3D set I probably would have watched the opening game in 3D just because but I don't.

I did watch the opening game though, and for someone who is not a soccer fan, it was a good watch. South Africia almost pulled out a win in the closing minutes.

I don't want 3D to fail, I just want it to be a slow ramp-up, kinda like HD was back in 2005/2006. I just don't want to see a ton of bandwith given to it at this point. If it is successful and they start dedicating bandwith to it in 2014 or so, than great. Right now, lets get HD complete.

How did you watch it? On Comcast or DIRECTV?

If I get a 3DTV I am going to get a Panasonic Plasma, those are nice sets.

Watched on Directv - plasma is definitely the way to go for 3D - there is no much to compare with Samsung LCD - Panasonic is way better.

Image for the game today was practically flawless, no double, no ghost.

Don't have 3D glasses, and have no desire to spend hundreds of dollars on a couple.

Best Buy has a deal going now:

- Samsung 3D 1080p HDTV 46inch 240hz.
- Samsung 3D bluray player.
- 3D starter kit which is 2 pairs of 3D glasses + "monsters & aliens" 3D bluray.

All for $1,900.

+ if u use your Best Buy mastercard reward zone card that 3,800 points with every 250 points being $5 back so that $76 in Best Buy $$.

So bottom line everything for $1,824.

I didnt watch in 3D, but did watch a bit. Had to turn off the sound though, though I was being attacked by bees.

Same for me, not wanting it to fail, but would like to see 2DHD get farther down the road first.

I hope there arent any people planning on watching the game when they get home from work who happened to stumble on this thread while still at work! ;)

Ah, my apologies, never very good at connecting the spoiler to sports, as it is such a widely reported thing. I screwed that one up for anyone that was planning to watch later.
