DISH loses 4 more HD channels - 3 Return

I was expecting them to get it done by the end of the week. I do not think it will stretch out too long since Disney has a lot of other channels they could start to use against Dish. But, then again there is the whole ESPNU problem, perhaps that is what is taking them so long on this one. Maybe Disney is not going to deal on these channels until the ESPN problem is taken care of.

E*'s contention seems to be that they do not want to pay separate fees for HD programming, especially on channels that offer little HD programming like most of the Disney channels. Disney seems to think it's OK to charge separately for the same programming and call one set HD and the other SD when they are 95% identical. If Disney pulls ESPN, they will hurt themselves as much as E*. (13 million times $3.50 or so a sub per month). Sports people can always move to D* where they probably should be for the best availability, especially HD. It'd be interesting to know what Disney is charging the other providers and if E* is being singled out or is the test case. With the bad blood over Disney's reneging on the most favored nation clause with ESPN, this might get a lot worse. I suppose E* could market itself as a sports free service, although I'm not sure whether that would work for them.

If E* would up the quality on SD channels corresponding to the HD channels they lost, then I'd be okay with not getting any of them in HD! If E* has and already signed agreement for ESPN and ESPN2 in HD, then I don't think Disney can just yank them because they want to. If E* can still provide ESPN and ESPN2 in HD then I'm fine with ESPNews and those Disney channels just being in SD -- especially if E* would significantly up the bit-rate (and thus quality) on the SD channels.

I'm not familiar with this...can you explain (or provide a link)?

Has anyone called or got on chat about these channels being gone in HD and got any type of compensation from Dish? IMO these may be channels most of us wanted when we added HD or a certain package so we were somewhat screwed at the end of the day and should warrant some sort of compensation regardless of what's written on a terms of use. Terms of use contracts come like this everyday but what it boils down to is some may not have even started with the product unless something was there such as these channels and could/should warrant that compensation from Dish while they are gone out.

I haven't called yet but will very very soon, I'm hoping this ends quick while also bringing ESPNU HD into the picture.

Charlie claims the channels were dropped for now in order keep the cost to the customers from going. That would have made more since if the top-200 and top-250 packages were not increased early this month. What it all boiles down to is profits. Any one who is smart enough would know that.

So instead of a $2/mo increase you wanted a $5/mo increase?

I honestly can't say I've really noticed any of them missing :)

The thing that I hate about this is it's part of the reason I left my old provider. We lost Fox a couple of times because of stupid money disputes between the provider and the channel company. These things should be resolved long before there's a chance of channels needing to be pulled.

Also, the only one that bugs me is ABC Family. There's a show I watch on there (in HD), but new episodes don't start for awhile, so hopefully all can be resolved by then.

Missing HD Channels??

I just rejoined dish. I notice with the card line up I am missing 4 HD channels

142 - ESPN News
172 - Disney (east)
174 - Disney XD
180 - ABC Family

Are these no longer HD channels, or do i need to call customer service?

Thanks

These HD channels were removed by Dish Network because they have a dispute. :( They give you the SD version though.

Those morons are not giving me Disney in SD either. I had TurboHD Bronze when I initially signed up and was getting both HD and SD.

When I look in my account now, it says Dish America with locals-I never changed my plan. I get all other HD channels, but no Disney in SD either. I called them and they said I have to upgrade to a higher plan to get Disney SD. I am sick of this company. While I understand contracting negotiations could cause these kind of things, I fail to see how they can just pull the SD version from me even though the SD channels are not in dispute. All I want are the Disney channels in any format since that is all my 3 year old twin boys watch and is a huge lifesaver for us.

I can understand how you would be satisfied with SD channels with small children.

BUT, for those of us who are NOT satisfied viewing the crummy SD versions this is rediculuos.

That's Dish Network for you. Today is Disney, tomorrow could National Geographic, the next day Epix, etc......:(
And no notification
all the companies have had retransmitting disagreements but they at least notify there customer with crawls and a placards on the channel.Dish they just go away and if you email them good luck on a reply.
