I'm one of those. I noticed right away that the HR22 had softer PQ than my HR20. Both were hooked up to the same TV using the same cables

That's funny because I remember reading post on here about the HR24 having soft pq.
I have found the pq to be outstanding on the HR24 looking on a 106" screen.:)

from my experience yes my HR20-700 is faster than that pos hr21 i had.

well thats a weird one. i experimented with this and for whatever reason the remote that came with the HR24 helped the HR21 work better . yes i know its weird but i tested this a for a week before i sent back the HR21.the HR21 worked noticeably faster with the HR24 remote. yet not as great as the HR24 works but much better. and the remote that came with the HR24 has a different model # too. check it out for yourself.the HR24 also works even better with the remote it came with compared to my harmony 880 remote. go figure!

it not sending alot of extra info on the hr24 remote like battery strenght and remote control id info. something you can disable with a code on the remote . it helps speeds things up.

But no where do we problem equipment models we state HDDVRs not HR24s.
Exactly, I think they should let you choose the model of your liking. If they can get a good inventory system, they could hook something up like that.

dtv ran a wireless shop it would be 99 dollar andriod phone random grab bag.
I was thinking more of a windows mobile phone grab bag. With a few iphones or higher end androids thrown in (HR24s).

Let me rephrase as I been having a bad day and this 6 pages have really made me laugh.

Instead of free I will put did not pay upfront fee to apease the people who get annoyed as the 5 dollar lease fee.

So in my own personal opinion if you you did not having to pay 199 or even 99 for a HDDVR you really dont have much room to complain.

You spend 99/199 on a hddvr then you can come here and complain but people canceling installs and throwing fits about availablity are just being silly

Right now employees cant order equipment and new employees who hit there free service mark cant be install because we give priority to the customer and we are giving out hr24s as fast as we can get them in.

I am sorry that people have such an issue with this . but seeing the same thread with a different title 10 times is just tiresome and redundt when trying to help hence why everyone should just post in the same complaint thread about not getting a hr24.

being in ACE is a PITA isn't?. lol

In D*'s defense, who could've predicted that E* would act-up (again) and send more subs running when D* was offering new technology with incentives.

I'm sure some will say that's the normal pattern of late but from a competitive viewpoint, D* did not plan to miss the estimated demand. I disagree with comments that D* is trying to give newcomers the old HD-DVRs. I think they're trying but there will be some unhappy. There does seem to be an effort to right the wrongs done. Are there better ways to do what D* is doing? Probably, but I'm not complaining; I have no reason to complain. For the moment, good things come to those who wait.

Hang in there Stonecold; I think better days are ahead. Maybe today was not a good day to take work home with you.

I searched but could not find any info on this great idea. Can you point me in the direction of where I should start searching?

This is the whole HR20 vs HR21 argument all over again.

Directv is causing the problem themselves, and then complaining about it, and then blaming the customer.

"Hey look everybody, we have a new HR24 receiver and its wicked fast!". Then they get their dbstalk sock puppets to put out a 'first look' with performance data.

Wait...not so fast. You cant have one if you want one, because our system wont allow that and we dont think thats a problem. In fact, the problem is that after we dangled the steak over the dogs nose that the dog still wants the steak. And it ought to quit annoying me about it! :D

If they like this 'one size fits all, now dont bother me' process, then make the model numbers of all the dvr's the same. Its just a "High Def DVR". By creating separate model numbers that are visible to the customer, you're going to create a demand for the new one/silver one/500gb one/better PQ version/etc.

So pick the side of the knife you want. If you want to beat your chest about having a hot new product, be prepared to dole them out to customers who want them. And you better sure as sh*t not get mad when they want them, thats ridiculous. Its like Apple beating their chest about the iphone 4 and when you order one they send you one of those brick sized phones and say "hell, its a phone...it makes calls...now quit whining about it and put all your complaints in this one thread so it doesnt bug us as much!". Yeah, right.

The guy that said Directv is screwed up because of the early termination fees and the lock on the football package might be right. They've retained some customers due to financial considerations and a monopoly, and thats made them brave. But we'll have to see how long that rubber band stretches. My contract is up, and I'm absolutely, positively not going to enter into another one. Eventually my receivers will get old and ugly and if directv keeps replacing them with refurbished HR20/21/22/23's out of stock and I have to keep yelling "HEY! I'm pushing a button here!!!" at the tv four or five times a day, the non contract options are going to start looking pretty good.

LOL!! Directv needs to bring cfb into customer relations and strategy meetings!

I've always thought it best to get to the point where I'm not contractually obligated so I can make demands. But as long as that "activating a leased DVR causes commitment extension" thingy applies, I sense a problem with extended patronage. This go-around, I didn't mind so much; not saying I won't in two years' time when Directv asks me to start paying HD access again and sign a new contract.

Right , my point is you can't order one from D* because they won't let you pick your equipment.:)

Yeah that does suck, I would think for as great as a upgrade the HR24 seems to be, it would be out there in the open for all to get! I would think there would be some advertising as well

I am guessing the "average" Direct sub the speed upgrade is not that big of a deal???

When my installer comes this morning, if he does not have the HR24, I will reschedule until he does have one.

D*is not promoting this recvr.
Yes, it may be on thier website, but that nothing compared to advertising on TV.

I STILL say once you complete your initial Commitment (2 years) that you should never be in another commitment situation with them again.

You've already completed your commitment.

More than likely, it's a supply and demand issue.
The probably don't have enough supply yet.

I'm sure there will be a time when the HR 24 will be what is given out everywhere.
