Neighbor may want me to move BUD

You should tell him immediately of your intention to move it in the near future...so he doesn't fume about it. Also ,in his mind, you are the bad guy. If you preempt him with apologies and butter him up he may feel he went overboard....and would think twice about bringing up future issues.

IF I were to go over for a face-to-face, I would be sure I had my little pocket-sized audio recorder in my shirt pocket, to remove any doubt about what might have been said.
But, like the others said, probably best to leave him alone, you can live beside a beehive for a long time as long as you don't go poking at it.
I like that black and yellow stripe paint for the shed idea, kind of like one of those giant "hazard' signs on the highway , haha!

Hey guys,

There's a vacant lot next door to me. The guy that owned it moved his old house off of the lot about 10 years ago, and is now thinking about building a new one there. I just bought my place about a year ago, and never even met the guy until about 3 months ago. He was making an "attempt" to be nice, but came off as being pretty arrogant to me. He was upset about my dish and also about the storage building I put up. He said he really wished I'd have talked with him before putting the building and dish where I did (along my property line shared with him) and couldn't live with them being there. He said I was devaluing his property and blocking his view of the neighborhood lake (his main view from his proposed house is across my property) I found his language kind of threatening but never heard back from him until today. Actually, I didn't hear from him, but I found survey stakes along the property line when I got home tonight.

My storage building is well within code about 15 feet from the line and was permitted so he can go stick it as far as it goes. The problem is my BUD. I thought I had placed it about 5 feet within the lot line. There's a survey stake 1 foot from the base of the mast tonight. The mast is on my side of the line, but the dish is a 10 footer and overhangs his lot. I'd say it's safe to say he's going to ask me to move it if it's within his legal rights. I know local laws vary, but what do you guys think? Does he have a right to ask me to move it?

I think he has a legal right to make you move it. In my city, the dish has to clear any property line or fence and even my house by 10 feet.

He is going to be a neighbor, life will be much easier if the two of you can get along. Why try to offend him by painting a building ugly on purpose?

Don't assume he is going to insist you move the dish, however do a site survey with options to where you would move it to.

Instead of assuming what he will want, approach him in a kind neighborly
fashion noting that there appear to have a stake survey done. Walk the marked property lines discussing what the two of you see.

It's quite possible that he won't ask you to move the dish, if he comments that
he isn'thappy with it infringing on his property show him where you would move it.

If you do move the dish, by all means be a good neighbor and remove the previous pipe as it will provide him with a nicer view and will be neighborly.




You might be surprised, he may not realize yo use the dish and by talking with him and telling him what you can receive he could become interersted and you can teach him about this hobby. He may end up asking you to assist him in locating and installing a dish.

I would move it and if possible try and keep good public relations with the neighbors.If he makes a big stink about it and brings it to the town you may loose your big dish altogether if the town has issues on dish sizes which many do.I wish the best for you! Take care.

I agree. Particularly because if the dish is in fact protruding over the line then it is not the neighbor who is in the wrong. I have a friend who won a $100,000 lawsuit when a neighbor intruded across the property lines. I would have been very careful not to put a dish that close to a property line.

I would recommend that the dish be moved, and forget about trying to annoy a neighbor who is in the right in this matter.

does anyone know what the general rule is for distance from a BUD to the neighbor's line? I know it should not protrude over, but can the the LNB come close to the line?

In the past 23 years in my home I've had some pretty bad neighbors. I never did anything and just didn't talk to them. The people eventually moved away.

Just to be safe I would move the dish, rather than coming home to find it no longer overhanging the line.

I noticed that when they survey property nearby they hammer in iron pipes at the corners. Don't know the custom where you live. I agree that you should try to be neighborly. Who benefits

I don't think you will ever be able to get along with this guy. But you will have to move the dish. I'd move it even just to protect it, 'cause you know he will be take shots and pokes at it out of spite.

Depending what he is putting up, and where. Is it going to interfere with your dish seeing the Arc or satellites?

If it was me, here is what I would do...

#1 Get your own survey company to come out and take a look at the property line, so your 100% sure where the line is at.

#2 If the Dish is indeed over hanging on his properly, move it immediatly

#3 Leave the old pole in place, as an F-U reminder to him that you had to move it.

Its your property, and your neighbor can't tell you what to do on your property

I was in an HOA where one guy thought he could stop me from doing anything that he thought would reduce his property value. He lost. I and some others put up dishes and OTA antennas.
